    As a woman, her position is an impossible position for a man. She was coy and charming but she was a feminist. Back then feminist were typically lesbian. It turns out so was she. But, she was also arguing with a gay man who himself had no interest in women. I think the argument would have been better supported had she given him her true feelings about men. Something tells me she was abused.

      That’s a good point that you raised. The segment involving James Baldwin, definitely generated those thoughts internally, but respectfully that was a different time. When they spoke others listened, so there was a resonance with their intended audience. What I can say is this, as humans we were all abused in some way, whether it’s abuse due to the projections of others, abused from hands or actions of another, abused by own “stinking thinking”, culture, etc. So all we can do, in this instance, is to graciously recount the contribution that her presence inspired in our individual lives, then send her off into the sunset to rest in peace. With that said, may she “fly like a bird” throughout eternity. As for you, may your days and nights be rich and full. Thank you again for your comment.

    The Soul of the World Tick, tack, tock; time to wake up. Long has my fall taken. Crushing drop. Winter struck. Consumed this astral rock, pulled down in cosmic degradation, by forces old and cold without restrain. Picked myself up. Gathered these shattered bones, tended to this broken spine of mine, found my torn up tomes from twisted knees, and climbed the ancient vine, grappling back, to bright reality, the gentle sheen of winding spring around the trees, blooming through the sun its heat, sets me back, onto my feet. And with the joyful sounds of playing birds, flown towards the south, my heart’s voice, it has no choice, but in jubilation sing, and shout it out.

I’ve struggled throughout adulthood with depression-anxiety though, which began as unresolved grief that hit me at 24 and worsened for years until I met a therapist who told me about delayed grief. I’ve managed to turn some of these positive lessons into negatives in my mind as I’ve seen my life/relationships not progress in the way I wanted. I’ve done a lot of therapeutic/spiritual work since to accept her loss but building a better relationship with myself has been such a struggle. Anyway thanks for this video! Secondly and more importantly, if we take the mindset that “I am” is a very powerful declaration, that means never allowing our thoughts to sabotage what’s possible for our lives. By stating this fact: that the mind and heart generate a powerful reservoir of resilience, no matter the circumstances, then transformation can begin to influence our reality. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I encourage that, now I invite you to encourage the part of you that dared to share this message. You're overthinking it. No man will fall for this - and the reason is: you're forgetting one significant issue - the view of the man. Now, lemme make one thing clear: you got "sleepers" and "keepers". Women think it's an evolution, but actually it is not. You can stay in the "casual" stage for years without any progression, because there is no need for a man to keep you. It's enough to "have you around". And when considering marriage, a guy will most certainly add in factors you're not aware of. Like "do I want kids", "what if we break up (most certainly - financially", "what will this whole charade cost me" (marriage is expensive). Now if we're past the "having kids" thing (early thirties) the financial issues are becoming more prominent. Sharing a home may have some financial benefits, but to well to do men it may pose more complications than benefits. And hence - you end up in the "sleepers" category. Talk to some guys. It may give you some additional insights.

    • @reshapingculture
      @reshapingculture 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for sharing your perspective, perhaps there was some overthinking; however, this is a clip pulled from the full video report on monogamy. This shares is the dating phase, from the perspective of a community of women that I closely observed. It is interesting to read these two terms that you’ve shared in your comment, “sleepers” and “keepers”. It is my hope that every woman eventually becomes a keeper, but as a researcher, my goal is to create discourse that can hopefully expand the conversation on a myriad of issues across the spectrum of human existence.

      As an anthropologist and a behavioral scientist, who is here to reshape culture and here to bring the colonised way of thinking to the foreground, spending time waiting for men and women to verify if my credentials are enough is touché for a mentality locked in a fog of shoulds. My masters in Anthropology and post masters work give me fuel. I stand with the likes of Huberman who are shouldering the burden of ignorance and making educating the mind more accessible. I wish for you peace in your awareness around researchers. For those that only wait for mean men who come on platforms to comment on videos that have nothing to do with them, only to fear if they will verify them as valuable is so very clearly, old school mentality, that has everything to do with the reason why researchers, like me who are serous need to call attention to faux silencers by spending time with groups who may need a little help with changing their behavior. I am busy working on my life, thank you for your comments. Please find another person to validate your thoughts about a video that has nothing to do with you.

      First of all, I hear you and truly do feel you. My heart goes out to your experience. I want to share something with you: You are the person that inspired me to get back on this channel and rethink the type of content, that I’d like to share, that’s a bonafide fact, so you matter! Most importantly, it is necessary for me to tell you a few more things, that hopefully will equip you for your life’s journey. Start facing the pain. When my mom died at 6, it set off a firestorm of unmet needs for decades. Then invariably, I had to sober up and let go of punishing myself for being alone, I’m talking holidays, birthdays, etc., then started leaning on my soul’s intention. If you can allow yourself to believe anything allow yourself to believe this, that there is a Presence (no religious diatribe or anything sanctioned to a religion) that is loving you in the depths of your pain and imploring you to face all of it. That means start listening to your heart and what it is saying. If you listen closely enough, the pain will speak. Julia Cameron from ‘The Artist’s Way’, inspired me to start something called morning pages. This is, you make a daily account of whatever comes to mind, by doing stream of consciousness writing, to clear your mind. Then go deeper by asking your heart: what’s really going on? What do I truly believe about myself? What did I make the death of my mom really mean? The meanings we apply to our lives can imprison us, they can also set us free, when we make conscious efforts at reframing them - those meaning making things that no longer serve us. Then lastly, start a journey of self-help. Read, read and read some more, then never stop remembering that you matter. The fact that a person, a stranger in your life (but part of your human family), me, is writing to you, says your mom is listening above, encouraging you to love yourself through the rough patches, by affirming that you matter enough, so much so in fact, that your heart, yours, the one inside of your chest, is working involuntarily. Much, much love and thank you for sharing your story with me. 🦋🙏🏽💐

Truth is I can’t run from the past. Finally facing it has helped me find peace. It’s gonna suck when she’s not there for big life moments but I’m learning to let other motherly figures help me. Community is crucial. I’m also extremely self-reliant but other people feel good when they help me and I’m learning to let them help.

However she didn't know how to form a mother-daughter relationship with me so we never ever really shared a bond, the whole time we spent together is not more than 6 months probably, all added up together, and I got only negativity from her, so now she's absolutely out of my life. i did not only grow up without a mom, you know with some basic love and support, but also had to spend a large part of my time fighting against the ideas like "you're awful, you're ugly, anyone who compliments on you is just lying" that I got from her. but I'm working on it, and i've made much progress. now finding people like you who shared similar experience with me, is a way for me to heal. so thank you absolutely a million.

      I just wanted to post that you are beautiful ! You have a lot to offer to this world. I can sense what a caring person you are. Women can give birth to children but not all "Mom's" know how to form that "Bond" Trust me. I have 6 kids and they are all so very different. Today they only care about music, XBOX, Tik Tok, Instagram....anything but loving me. It hurts. Mom's hurt due to being abandoned & ignored. I wish people would see it from a different perspective. God bless you

      Thank you for sharing your story. It took a moment for me to get to your response, still I want you to know that I value your heartfelt message. What I know for sure is that the way to heal, is to enter into an agreement with the part of the self that was traumatized and to commit to healing and returning her back to her original wholeness. One way is by reading books that help break childhood trauma. Since abandonment is a hallmark part of her behavior (the woman who birthed you), there is trauma work that is invited for you to look into doing. One book that I read, which helped me to shine a light on my own abandonment experience is: ‘Reinventing your life’, it talks about the various “Lifetraps” that keep repeating in our lives and spilling over into signature parts of our experience and prevents us from living a fully expressed experience and loving ourselves fully and completely. Perhaps look into it. With that said, I appreciate you and thank you so much again for sharing your personal experience. Much love ❤️

    Thank you so much for sharing your story. I lost my mother at age 3. The emptiness and feeling of a void is something that lives with me. Not remembering my mother creates its own set of issues, because I don't remember having a relationship with her. I am 11th of 12 children and I don't have a personal family bond with any of them. It's very sad. I have a very difficult time with relationships and creating bonds. I don't trust anyone. I am most comfortable in a room full of strangers. I'm a loner. I think I will share my story.

    Anytime I mention my story : my mother being murdered by an ex boyfriend when I was 9 months old, someone tries to out trauma me or make it about themselves by ignoring my story and other stories similar to mine. Have some compassion and empathy , if your parents left it’s not the platform to be asking “what about me” it’s like you don’t even care about what she’s talking about …

    I’m 40 now, 2 weeks ago. My mom got sick when I was 2 and passed when I was 12. Nothing made sense and I could not relate to any of the other 7th graders. Still have issues relating to others. Let’s not even get into relationships, they’re extremely difficult because as I sense it, there’s a fundamental disconnect in values with your “average” person. Ended up dropping out of high school and just immersing myself in music art and DIY. Did the whole psychonautic explorations (drugs & psychedelics) because I wanted to know more deeply. To your point of self reliance, I always valued being able to do a wide range tasks/actions and have always pursued and craved depth/meaning. I mean, I’ve been doing my own laundry since I was 12. I worked a lot and just explored the world as much as possible and in particular people from a wide range of life paths. I fundamentally value connection, consideration, and the ability to be courageous and pick yourself up and continuously learn and expand. Regardless of how long you stay down. I worked in service industry (which is a whole other eye opening experience of others) and in my 30s said F it and went to school. Worked through community college, got accepted to an Ivy League school, am now completing my Master’s, and in general have become a truly (I hope) compassionate and empathetic person. We each have value and offer an opportunity to grow and learn for others. I’ve learned the value of people because I’ve lost so many. It’s unfortunate, that it seems most are so willing to discard individuals for the most insignificant of reasons, but I’ve also learned that everyone does everything because in some way it’s related to their own fears and anxieties. As a male, you don’t find a lot of “content” of other males discussing this issue. But I’m happy to have randomly decided to search “growing up without a mother”. All our experiences are different and contextualized for our interests and motivations, and as such thanks for sharing your experience.

      Thank you Adrian for sharing your thoughts and I applaud you, for your mindset and the many eye opening discoveries you’ve made along the way. There is a very clear relationship with feeling and understanding. I am curious to know what your masters degree is in. Your drive harkens a self-effulgence that has accompanied you throughout your journey. As you have articulated from your entry, it is truly something that is learned from a reflexive space; one which has aided you, throughout your life. That impulse to research the motherless experience, is what interests me and where discourse around this subject is imperative. It’s inexplicable, yet existent with convoluted layers, one which surpasses the intellect. Your process is raw, commendable and just simply beautiful. Thank you for sharing and working towards cultivating a life well lived. Best to you 💓

    Thank you. My mama died when I was 3. I was left with my dad to raise us.. he was a very angry parent. He would hit us really hard and say mean things like “good thing your mother died. If she was alive now she would take one look at you and drop dead again with disappointment”. My brother and I would get in trouble when we asked about her so we grew up never talking about her. My dad went through lots of pain and left us with his mom while he would go away doing who knows what (I think partying?) … at my grandmas house my uncle started to sexually abuse me at 4 years old. I had a very troubled childhood. I am ok now and love my dad so much. He never really acknowledged how he treated us but I know he is sorry and I forgive and love him more than anything. I always wish my mom was here so that I have that special bond with an older women that truly loves me. I’m grateful for what I went through because it made me strong. But God! I wish so bad that she was here sometimes. Sending love to everyone who shares this pain. Xo

      As a male raised in foster care birth -7 urs then juvenile state ward from 13-18. I've heard a lot of negative stereotypes surrounding men in relationships who were raised without nurturing and love. And unfortunately there all true. My only hope to assimilate was my relationship with God and lessons I've learned from emotionally hurting 2 women in my life. At 20 I found myself sad and very curious about women's life story's I would encounter. Even though I didn't carry myself like I been through pain and suffering, I always and I mean always would attract girls that have. Learning so much from these women caused me to develop an emotional bond and protective love for women, but 1 problem I have yet to understand is why women I engage for serious relationships, I always feel as if they don't love me no matter what happens or how long the relationship lasts. Something inside never lets my "guard" down. All I ask in a relationship is to be faithful and love & protect the children 1st. Idc about attitudes, habits, or lack of woman skills. As easy going as that may sound, I still cannot find security. That issue is why I'm here searching for an unknown defect I may have and be unaware of. I really don't want to repeat another relationship and attracting women has never been a problem, and because my standards are so low it's easy to become vulnerable or available to finding a replacement that I may not need. If there's anything damaged in me I'd like to find it, I have a lot of love to give but finding that security is proving to be very difficult!

Why is it that when the 'big' events happen I miss her the most? Like obviously with the birth of my first child and soon to be second child. But with my marriage also, turning older than her (21) was the toughest, i think I spent a year in bed! I just wonder if thats when it is at the forefront of my mind?

    • @reshapingculture
      @reshapingculture 3 года назад

      @@gwenwood6136 coming from my own experience, it’s the emotional recognition of the voids, if you will, they never truly go away. Just like having something put on our plates that we have to deal with for an entire lifetime. We know that it’s there and we know that we must tolerate it. At times we can block it out or put it somewhere in the background. Other times, it’s virtually impossible to ignore. It’s during those heightened moments, where we must do what Dr. Perry calls “dosing”. Which means gathering emotional strength, from those who care about us and are healthy enough to just listen and let the heart share and empty its anguish and grievances - if you don’t have anyone, then call an anonymous free hotline, it’s just as cathartic or write in a journal. As human beings, we have our “shoulds” in life. My children should have their grandmother; my wedding day should have my mother’s presence and so on. They are supposed to be those given monumental experiences where our emotional value system places our should haves directly in our pathway. We can never defeat it, only healthily replace it by filling our cups with our “heaven”; our comfort, love and support. At least that’s my remedy, along with always allowing her (my mother) to live in my heart. While at the same time, honoring her by creating a life of which I think, she would be proud. Warmest best 💖

    Is having a verbally and emotionally abusive and neglectful mother the same as not having a mother at all?

    • @reshapingculture
      @reshapingculture 3 года назад

      I would say yes and no. Yes because the version of the mother that is showing up, is not the version wished for internally. No because her presence is still ongoingly contributing to your relationships with women and others. She is not physically abusive, right? With a verbally and emotionally abusive parent, as children we think that they are godlike. Meaning that they are above us, when in fact they are just wounded humans wounding others. If that’s her method of being in your life, then the one thing that is necessary is to find tools to communicate. Ones that encourage healing and to stop polluting your life. There are 5 control drama personality types: the interrogator, the intimidator, the aloof and the victim. Each one of these control dramas use their tactics to control and dominate others. To live with an abusive person, you must navigate ways of how to take care of you and how to have a life that can be free from abusers and controllers, in a healthy way. One solution for that is to start with one day at a time, by using social platforms as a helpful to teach; as a way that can help you to construct a life that can support you for the longterm. Meaning representation is a very important ingredient in knowing what we want. Look for examples that can help you to work toward constructing your own life. Take good care of yourself and much love to you 💞
