The book is like it was wrote directly for me. The player who’s been playing 3 years , is ridiculously but highly technical, analytical in nature not just in golf but everything in life. Then because I can over analysis with technical repetition Frustration sets it when ultimately this mode of working hasn’t saw any results Of which for the last 20 months I’ve been trapped in this cycle of development (a major swing change) and seeing no real meaningful results in that process. I really hope a daily practice of the type of meditation you speak of can be the switch which leads to a break through in my overall performance then enjoyment of the sport of golf.

Hi Peter, thanks for your comment. Given the world we live in with its quick fixes and top 10 tips on mindfulness etc., I'm not surprised you find my approach frustrating. What I'm advocating is the daily practice of formal seated meditation to quieten the mind, reduce anxiety and allow movement to flow. The principles and practice are all documented in my book 'Breathe Golf' but only by a personal commitment to the practice can you really understand and experience what it can offer your game.

It's interesting that Ernest Jones in his 1937 book "Swing the Clubhead" wrote, "So much, then for suggestion on conscious effort in starting the stroke. Mental preparation for the start is just as important, possibly even more so. Chief concern here lies in the problem of physical tenseness, brought about by the mental condition that a player is experiencing at the time. Tenseness is an insurmountable barrier to swinging, because swinging implies a free, easy rhythm, which can never be achieved in the face of tenseness." Your outstanding work certainly underscores the truth of this.

Thank you for bringing your tai chi background to the practice of golf. I am 68 years old, and have played since I was 13, but I fully believe that discovering your videos a week ago will be one of the best things for my game and my life. I have been frustrated by my inconsistency, often playing exceptional shots, but also hitting too many really score-ruining shots as well. The meditation and breath focusing you teach is already helping, and I intend to practice it for the rest of my life. I do want to point out something in this video, that I think was mis-spoken. The time from address to the top of the backswing is 2-3 times greater than the time from the top of the backswing to impact. It was stated in this video just the opposite (kind of like a verbal type-o).

Thank you David. What I'm bringing to golf and sports performance is a wonderful synergy of Tai Chi and Zazen practice in one simple exercise. I agree that's it's transformative and we can certainly benefit in so many ways. Best regards Jayne

I've always heard golf was played from the ground up and was told to get into an athletic stance at address. I never thought about where the weight distribution was in each foot. Very interesting and can't wait to get out and hit some golf balls.

Dear Jayne, An effective message here for all golfers looking for more enjoyment in the game, and in the process improvement can occur. Chuck Hogan had a credo for golf and I think for life - "Try not and Expect nothing" and when combined with "Enjoy the HIt!" and when combined with your "Breathe Golf" a golfer will become more present and in turn more effective. Great work that you are doing!

Thanks Peter. When the mind is quiet the golfer can experience a stronger connection to their breathing and the sensation of the physical body. This helps to activate the wisdom of the bodymind which allows for the release of a natural and connected golf swing. Too much trying and over-thinking cancels out fluidity of movement and yet so many golfers buy into the premise that the more they know about technique, the greater player they will be! Thank goodness there's another way...

I’m enjoying just the daily doing meditation without expectations, sometimes it flows other times it’s hell to stay in the moment. But that’s the same in life and overtime this transmits itself to your game, slowly but surely attending to the breath miraculously improves scores and enjoyment. I’ve been target driven all my life and wow I have found another way.
