      probably drill the rivets out and replace the straps, then just put new rivets in

    Nice! I do some metal art. I could cut the parts on my CNC plasma cutter. I am tempted to try and make one. It takes a lot of work to make each part and to custom fit everything. Keep up the good work.

    I understand that winged hussars basically took the design of their helmets directly from the turks. But the facial protection is more of a polish/lithuanian addition, right?

    is it ok to just use an angle grinder

    • @johncannon3593
      @johncannon3593 3 года назад

      You CAN use an angle grinder in a pinch, but you won't get clean curves and you will most likely occasionally run up onto the workpiece surface and leave ugly grinder marks. When cutting curves with the angle grinder, cut them excessively large so you can clean up the cut with a grinding disk after you get the piece cut loose from the stock.

    I know you in Murica have this SCA thing reguesting to have basket face protection, but why did you welded cheek protectors to the top? I mean in original Hussar helmets they were movable (hanging on 2 leather straps), and you made them also a little too big (they should not be overlapped with either the peak or the tail). Also the skull should be riveted from 2 halves(you welded them). I could understand welding helmet from 2 halves which originally was made of single piece, but hussar helmets should be riveted from 2 halves. It is all because of this regulations? If you want to know how real Hussar armors are assembled i can help you with that, because i had opportunity to touch and inspect a few of them from inside. :)
