This channel is an addition to my existing Flickr page for photos of Vintage AC Units. This channel is for videos of units mainly from my own personal collection. i intend on getting a running video showing front, back, sides, controls, features, etc of every unit i acquire. it may take a bit for me to get to some of the larger ones, but all in good time. photos are available on my Flickr page: www.flickr.com/photos/66034464@N08/
If anyone has questions about old ACs please feel free to contact me. i will be more than happy to answer any questions i can. also, any feedback on videos is much appreciated.

Complete Restoration Process Of A 1956 Fedders Weather Bureau Air Conditioner Pt. 1
This video here shows from the initial checkout of the unit, all the way thru the near complete tear down. Every step of this units process will be filmed unless otherwise noted (mostly if i take the case and base pan somewhere else to be sand blasted). But i am 99% confident I can film 100% of the work. This has been requested dozens of times that I show a full restoration, so, here it is! You’ll see how much is actually involved with this process.

Are those mounting bolts in "shipping" mode? Nice unit either way! I noticed the old "plastic" rig on the floor, used to have one, neat old unit as well.
I really enjoyed this video. I am looking forward to you having time to work on that 49 Philco. That's going to be awesome.
That poor Technics had a few caps come loose hahahah...nice grab man.
Quite a project, Russ, with a 3-man team! Looking at my 1955 Tecumseh catalog: you will probably find that the model number of the compressor is B1P16. Twin cylinder, 1HP, 230Volt. It is designed for R-22, and requires 55 ounces of oil. Displacement is 3.59 cubic inches, and it weighs 70 lbs. Hey, maybe you could have an air conditioner in your kitchen: that guy in the movie "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) had an EQK in his kitchen!
@@johncantwell8216 all joking aside, thats where it may go. I have an eqk im my living room. Does the kitchen but it would be nice to have a little extra cooling power for when the oven and stove is on. That, and itll look cool as hell in there.
@@TheAirConditionerGuy Right, ovens and stoves are killers on hot summer days.
Great video! Looks like they forgot to back off on the hold-down nuts (to prevent excessive compressor movement during shipping) to let the compressor ride free on its spring mounts. I once had an 11400 BTU Philco with a Tecumseh B, and it had a label with instructions to do that loosening at the time of installation.
Is it possible to wire a fan motor backwards? How to tell which is positive on non marked cap. Its 115v
AC induction motors don’t care how they are wired. If it’s an old motor, You may want to do a resistance check between each wire and the case to make sure it isn’t shorted.
@@akshonclip this!
Awesome vintage unit
Looking forward to seeing the restoration of that holy grail unit. If you're able to, have your daughter be around some of the progress that way she can develop an appreciation of these old units
I’m curious, is this unit still working good as it should?
This thing was on my eBay watch list for a while. Glad it went to someone that'll take care of it. I was going to buy it but I knew it was one of those things that I would most likely put in a box and never touch again like my 60's GE fridge condenser fan. Very cool.
Its funny how all of the people like us seem to congregate unknowingly in the same groups lol
I don't think today's wimpy "modern" plastic frame windows can handle that beast
The RPM isn't listed as the motor can run on both 50 and 60 Hz. Sounds like it needs new thrust washers from the knocking sound the motor is making. I would get a VFD so you can very the Hz going into the motor to control the speed of the fan. Can't want to see you refurbish this! 🙂
Interesting find.
Never heard of Victron before. That must have been from early 50s or late 40s.
@@lesto59 thats what im thinking! Most definitely out of a window account. Interesting too because most of them had 2 fan motors back then
@@TheAirConditionerGuy True. The only unit from that era I ever saw with just one fan motor was a circa 1953 Universal which was in one of my high school classrooms and the fan for the condenser was a 3 blade that looked suspiciously like this one.
I just got one of these that a friend saved from the dumpster… have you ever had to replace the belts in the cd or cassette deck? The cd track seems to be one spot off and I can’t seem to find any manuals online
@@artick there are 2 belts on the CD changer and a gear for the sled that usually go bad. The belts are easy because speed dont matter so any size thatll fit will work.but the gear usually i turn it upside down and put it on just enough to contact the other gear, unless you can find a replacement. The belts for cassette decks are way more complicated if its a dual deck with one motor. You can try multiple belt kits but ive never had any luck. Ive never found a correct kit on ebay either and none of my service manuals had the belt size in it. If its a single deck or a dual deck with 2 motors its easy, get belts that fit and do a speed adjustment on it using a test tape, or your ears if you are good with that.
@@TheAirConditionerGuy Thank you for getting back to me and your advice! I was able to get it the belts changed and it can open and close but it gets confused after trying to put the disk back.. and it doesn’t spin or play the disk … I’m thinking of bringing it to my local stereo repair guy
I give you 23.88 an you gotta give it to me
First to comment? Fuck yea
Another great video, thanks!!

Back when quality mattered great sounding unit
Good unit. Too bad about the front grille. Listed in the 1970 AHAM directory. Temp Master (Oklahoma Tire & Supply)
@@johncantwell8216 i could probably get one off of a rotted one. One will show up eventually. Seems like i got a rare variation
Great find! Listed in the NEMA 1966 directory. The 30-amp L-ground plug was pre-1968.
First time I’ve seen you get an Emerson older than the dynamic series
Knowing me my intrusive thoughts would've been telling me to touch the vice grips just to see what happens (probably see the light). All seriousness though i love these bigger machines way more than the smaller ones, though less fancy, this is no exception. Love the way the controls look and just the front cover in general.
@@psychedelicnarwhal9599 i prefer the larger ones too, thats why its a struggle when i need a low btu model lol

@@dhouser1695 the rotpoint? Theres nothing left of the steel chassis. Its Daves paper weight.
Westinghouse used to make great units. They were the #1 seller in Columbus, Georgia where my grandmother and aunts & uncles lived and they always had Westys. United Oil sold them in all their appliance stores there.
Made in USA
That's not that bad it's just for testing purposes.
@@sabbath7081 exactly. I would hope no one took that literally like its good for installation, but now days who knows lol
@@TheAirConditionerGuyseen someone long ago stick the wires straight in the socked. They ran it like that two summers before selling the place
Have you ever had a old AC that was not plugged in suck the condensate water back under the condenser?
@@johnhummingbird6837 no cant say i have
@@TheAirConditionerGuy I have it was an old 220 air conditioner that did it kinda freaked me out
Nice AC you have there! Good 'Ol R-22 Nice wiring job as well everyone knows safety grounding is for wussies LoL! Two questions for you (If you don't mind answering) What is the "Automatic Dual-Stat? Question two I notice that on some vintage and older units that the fan motors have three speeds but in fan only mode (not like many people actually use that mode, or do they?) why are only one or two of the speeds available and not all three?
@@Peter_Yachymczyk im not sure what that stat feature is i have to play around more. The 2 speed fan 3 speed cool is just in the selector switch. Probably a cost cutting measure with 1 less position.
Fan seams quiet when you turned it on. Such a nice unit.
@@nathen4021 i love the old EQK units
I need to replace the vintage one with a modern unit the 2015 Frigidaire
The fan motor sounds like a turkey
The module one looks better
The old one is s*** is a dummy the new one is a better modern
The GE was a dummy
I think the filter material in front of the evaporator (the output) is to keep water droplets from blowing out into the room. My 61 Thunderbird had a wire mesh in front of the evaporator for that reason because the air left the evaporator and blew right into the passenger compartment.
For me sound is more about the objective quality of the sound, not necessarily dB levels (which comes secondary). Something about the sound of an AE for example, with a smooth-running squirrel cage blower fan, is just so relaxing. When I use window units, its mainly at night to sleep, so that kind of thing is really important to me. Admittedly, as a musician and an audio engineer, psychoacoustics are really important to me. Others may disagree or find the "sound quality" of their unit to be of no concern. That's cool too (no pun intended).
Awesome find...those GE units are tanks.
Great video! That unit is in excellent condition. That cute little dog seemed to be very pleased with it too! :)
Outstanding unit! It is listed in the 1969 AHAM directory, but it may also be in the one from 1968. (I don't know when they switched from the RF... model numbering to the AGF... type. I have 1966 thru 1974 directories, except I'm missing 1968.) GE made the 11,000 BTU RF-606A Filter Blower Superline model in 1966 and 1967. I saw that the power cord was cut off. Wonder why it had a parallel plug instead of a tandem for a 230V unit.
That unit is cool (pun intended 😂) Those motor bearings are like new Very nice unit I am jealous ❤Dogs
Looked like a great buying experience. Mint no rust machine, seller seems cool and even a little dog! 10/10. hope he finds the front cover just for originality sake. I'm all for using the vintage units I collect daily but this ones so fresh and hard to find in good shape I'd really have to think it over and be very selective on where to install. I have a 6k KeepRite window unit from the mid 80s that has that "toilet bowl wax" on the bottoms on the condenser coil end plates. Seems to work well against corrosion. Earlier versions of this unit I come across usually that metals totally gone.
@@FixYourFans a Superthrust of this age in that condition is 1 in 1000. Thats why im thinking downstairs where itll see very little use and will be completely out of the elements.
Drain hole mod and toss that sucker in somewhere!
A fine specimen of the SuperNoRust! Nice find!
Such a great find. I say dont install and run this as i say kerp it as a muesuim piece since its so hard to find one in this condition. I usually call tbese superrust lol. I think this was hardly used because they may of went to central air, and absndoned this window unit. Hope you find the grille for it.
Hi there, I’m the blind guy you identified that Chrysler 1963 imperial air temp air conditioner for. I would love to have a four hour MSRA of a bee type compressor such as as found and that air conditioner. Didn’t you promise us one once? Well, you didn’t exactly promise it, but, it would be nice to have. Remember, a four hour MSRA file of a D type compressor which is found in the 1963 Chrysler air temp imperial. That would be so nice.
Another well preserved REAL air conditioner, thanks for the posting. Do you have or ever considered a forum on old appliances for us vintage nerds? I'm Pentode on the Stak if you ever want to start a thread for old AC units in the vintage electrical section.
