I'm using ur recipe now. I hope it turns out good as I added the tomato 🍅 paste to the water instead of the veggie/lentil mix and I boiled the lentils in the water first instead of stir frying them with the spice and veggie mix !

My rice cooker doesn’t have a soup function. Which function should I use? 😊
Perhaps try using the main rice cooking function or any boiling function other than steam. I chose the soup function because it maintains a consistent temperature and retains moisture instead of evaporate. If you're using a standard rice cooking setting, consider adding 1 extra cup of water since those settings tend to dry out the liquid. Most rice cookers take about 25-30 minutes to cook, which is roughly the same amount of time as my soup function, so should be fine. Let me know if it goes well. I have not tried myself, but good question!

Will the beans be soft? I’ve tried to soak the beans over night and cooked them for more than 2 hours but they were still not as soft as I expected
It depends on the size of the beans you use. If they're large beans like kidney beans or cannellini, they'll take much longer to cook, maybe 5-6 hours. With larger beans, I'd cook them separately until softened (not mushy) and then add them to the rice just before cooking. For this recipe, it's best to stick with small beans like small red beans, mung beans, or black-eyed peas. Hope that helps!

I'm definitely going to try this version! I tend to be lazy and get the pre-mixed sacks at Korean markets, but I have all the ingredients on-hand, so I need to expand. PLUS - I love Millet, and none of the pre-mixes include it. I also like that you show us the non-porridge/congee style version, I like mine more... fluffy (? not porridgy - yours is perfect). I also like to put a bit of garlic powder in, for a bit of a kick. Question: do you do 1.5 cups of water to 1 cup of grains? The amount of water is the tricky part, so I'm eager to hear your advice. Anyone who hasn't tried this - DO SO! It's so simple, and at first you don't see the big deal, but it's quite wonderful, tasty, and addictive. Last few times we've had it, we've had some Kimchi and slices of leftover Char Siu on the side... and... instead of soy sauce, we use a few dashes of Maggi. However... I rarely use any sauce, because the grains are SO good. Thanks for this wonderful video, just subscribed!

You're most welcome! I use red boat fish sauce for this recipe. In my recipe, I either use this fish sauce brand or coconut amino.
Try using butter instead of olive oil and put a bit of Paprika in the butter. Also I would use the whole egg and poach them.
Simple and looks great, my tip is to parboil the potatoes, the tomato paste will cause the potatoes to take a longer time to boil.
