I can definitely see the need for training is this field. If the technician had a class on the mechanical characteristics of the valve he was working with and knew that the little weep hole in the thread would definitely warn ⚠️ him that the rest of the valve was not holding as expected, he would know the danger he was facing.

I work in the propane business but unfortunately live in California were the future plan is to go electric! I have 20 years until I can retire from doing this as a profession! Does anyone see propane continueing to fuel our society in the distant future?

Just found out from my mother that walter snelling was my great great grand father but his one son who was my great grand father died in a plan crash so his son Robert had to raised by his uncle Bill and never acknowledged my side of the family cuz he had my mom out of wedlock so they never really knew us till recently

Haven't seen autogas in the rail space. It was tried many years ago, but the case for it now is much stronger. I think it's time to revisit it

I routinely clear blocked valves at a wastewater plant.. the plug lets go at the worst times.

I find it hard to believe that the technician stood there and watched it without evacuating the building immediately. And surely he had an assortment of fittings in his truck. A pipe nipple and a ball valve would have made a quick fix. I have repaired ruptured steam lines without shutting it off by unthreading the ruptured line and screwing in a pipe nipple with open ball valve attached. Once a few threads are engaged, the valve is closed and then the fittings are tightened. I'm hope gas technicians now have rupture kits for sealing leaks on tanks like I used for large chlorine tanks back in the 80's.

The lesson I learned was to not stand around like a stack of pancakes when propane is spewing out of a 500 gallon tank.

Training and awareness are absolutely key to properly dealing with this type of situation. These people died needlessly because of the lack of both.

Yea, a plastic-fiberglass junk propane tank.

I was like "I am so fascinated to see how propane relates to Durable Medical Equipment" Seriously though, with DME looks like it would have less energy by volume and produce more carbon dioxide and water then propane. That may or may not be an improvement to untransformed emissions (CO2 is also a greenhouse gas) but it doesn't seem like it would be an improvement to the product. Is there a cost benefit?

The wrong distance was the first thing I noticed. NFPA 58 also requires that distance IIRC.

Sometimes the telltale gets blocked by debris, or a dislodged or disintegrating gasket. It's entirely possible that the tech had no warning.

I mean... How do they biodegrade? Metal is eminently recyclable. Plastic soaked fibers... Not so much.

Have to wonder why they didnt just use up the 350 gallons and then connect the new tank. Hard to imagine even firefighters standing there in a cloud of propane vapors and vehicles coming nearby, and people in the store smelling gas but staying inside where anything could ignite the gas- light fixtures, a refrigerator turning on, a coffee maker, even the phone ringing!

The Jr tech was an idiot, even with no training anyone with half a brain would be able to figure out that if you start unscrewing the plug and highly flammable liquid propane starts squirting out under pressure and doesnt stop in a couple of seconds, that you should CLOSE the plug up again!

Plus KRAM is MARK spelled backwards.

SERIOUSLY thinking about these to use in my lawnmower propane conversion since they are lighter & can SEE level of propane, BUT the nearest requalifying location to me is 73 miles one way, SO IF I purchase I DON'T want to drive that far to find out I will have to leave the tank or wait for hours to get it done, this is the ONLY negative thing for me, go to their website BEFORE you buy and see how close a requalifying location is.
