I shoot an R6/R7 combo... but have been wanting to get something with higher resolution. I'm very much torn between whether to choose the R5 or R5ii. Mostly for the AF feature (the only problem with AF in R6/R7 is that if something passes in front of your subject, it can jump to that thing, and you need to use joystick to re-acquire. If you happen to have a technique for this?)... and I would like to try the Eye-focusing. Lastly, the electronic shutter on both R6/R7 leave a lot to be desired; mechanical is great. Just not sure if that's worth an extra $2k. I could use that to get either the 28-70 (still using Gen1 24-70) or 70-200 (I use Tamron G2 70-200). Video features I can take/leave (I use my R7 as main video now). Love some insights, how much of an upgrade is it? Thanks!

Photography has been my hobby for over 40 years. I would like to start to make a living out of it as I got married 4 weeks ago, my photographer unloaded my photos using Pixieset. It has given me some inspiration to start my own. I came across your video while learning about my Nikon D40 camera that I have used for many years on auto. I want to use lightroom and Pixieset but wasn’t aware that they work together, that will be a big help to me just learning the basics. 10 years of using batteries...10 years. If someone has a problem that after so many years more powerful batteries are needed for new equipment that is much more technically advanced, then maybe they simply shouldn't change the equipment. The batteries will be the same. Besides, Canon is famous for such moves, so why the surprise??

Great Video, thanks Jay. Got mine also a few days ago and I noticed something weird. When I attache one of my IS lenses, the IS mode (in the red menu) is greyed out. Cannot change these settings. On my R6 MKII it's white and not greyed out at all. Do you have the same, just curious. Tnx

Great video, very informative. Just wish they started shipping more cameras in the UK. My large store received enough stock to ship less than the first day of pre-orders, and new separate batteries available at all. keep up the videos.

what strap system do you use?

P Mode is a hybrid of A and S Mode. Or in Canon terms AV and TV mode. There is a feature called program shift that lets you change Aperture and shutter speed with on of the dials on the camera. Joe Buissink Canon Ambassador and who is a Hollywood wedding photographer shoots in P Mode and uses program shift and only uses M mode for flash. When he's taking photos and needs them too all look the same he holds down the AEL lock button that locks down the exposure and white balance. Also there is half press shutty lock that locks down exposure and white balance. The reason these good is because to avoid human error. I've heard of stories even from very high end wedding photographers forgetting to change their settings. My Olympus cameras have a feature that display the image I just took for 0.3 seconds so I know the image came out right.

I'd recommend buying a new microphone or changing something with your audio recording. It sounds like you're in a room that has a bit of echo to it.

A good video! I've been considering an R5 Mk.1 for awhile and wanted to wait until the Mk.2 in case it'd be better for me, but honestly the best thing about the Mk.2's announcement is the impending crash in price of the Mk.1 on the used market.

Great review! As a fellow wedding filmmaker, I'm wondering: How do you rig out your R5 for shooting weddings? I'm currently shooting with a couple R5Cs and an R5, and while I love the cinema operating system, waveforms, and heat dissipation of the R5C, its battery life makes me have to rig it out with a v-mount, rig to hold the v-mount, etc. So while it's still small for a "cinema" camera, with weddings we have to CARRY the thing for hours at a time. Anyway, I'm just wondering what accessories you add on to your R5 to shoot wedding films with, and if you see the R5II changing/lessening any of that. Thanks!

Hmmm I thought the 5D II had firmware with new & updated eye sensor and updated phase detection though the mirror with 2k, 4k & 8k raw. Hehe

I think the obvious comparison between the R5 1 & 2 is low light performance. How does the new R52 perform at higher ISOs and what abilities would it give an event photographer…Like maybe a photographer wouldn’t have to rely on a speed flash as much with the R52 if the ISO performance is so good…? Would love to see a video on that!

R5 really is the flagship not the R1 in my broke opinion

Hi, great video! I have seen the card viewing switch on me. I have an R6 MarkII. My card settings are for both cards to record the same thing (I have had friends lose stuff). Card 1 is my playback. I took my card 1 out to import to my computer. I forgot I never put that card back in, turned on my camera with only the card in the 2 slot. So oops, i turned off my camera and put the card back into the 1 slot. It changed my settings and one of them is the card to view on, it was now the 2 slot. I hope this helps

Thanks, I'm debating between getting this one or RF one, and I feel like this will be the way to go. Extending lens like the RF version is a bit problematic for the type of shooting I do (it could work for wildlife which I also do, but snowy dog sled races and sandy tracks of greyhound races would probably bust that quite quickly)
