I'm now in my final year of studying CS @ UCL, so I thought it would be interesting to make a quick life update video. This year so far has been pretty busy, balancing uni, finding a job and my social life has been a bit chaotic, but that's life! #university #computerscience #universitycollegelondon Keep moving forward 🫡

my 1st year of CS at uni
Просмотров 35 тыс.2 года назад
I've just finished my first year of studying Computer Science at UCL and in this video I share what I learned at university. I show you what my university experience was like, the things that I struggled with and also what I enjoyed. Modules: Term 1: 1. Engineering challenges with EEE 2. Design and professional skills (Python, Ethics) 3. Principles of programming (C, Haskell) 4. Discrete maths ...
In your intern role interviews did you use leet or neet code questions (plz specify which type of questions).
I used a combination of Leetcode, Grind 75 and Neetcode solutions for those problems. You can also look at company specific question lists on Leetcode which are helpful
@@zafariscan you also list the best project to learn I am currently focusing on ai but I wanna be up to date
Hi Zafaris, I am currently applying to universities (a bit late). Is UCL actually worth it compared to other Universities
👏 Congrats, Imaad!
Please can you send me that website link at min 4:16 . I am shocked I havent seen it before.
did u get paid ?
Yeah :)

Jazakallah khair 🙏🏽
Bro. this got recommended to me and I'm in year 13, planning to apply to this EXACT course, Comp Sci BSc at UCL. Is there anything you could let me know about it?
Hey bro! Check out my channel, I've made a couple of videos on my experience of CS at UCL. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer :)
@@zafaris alright man, I'll def keep it in mind in the upcoming weeks cause I gotta do my personal statement and such. have u seen there's this required entry test for comp sci ?? called the STAT or something, was this a thing when you applied?
Sounds good! Ah yeah, the entrance test wasn’t a thing back when I applied so I can’t help much. Hopefully there are more resources available online now!
what do you think of the job market for newly graduated CS Bachelor's ? Is it oversaturated and super competitive ? By the way congrats man!
Hey, thanks for your comment and great question btw! Overall, I do think that CS as a degree has become significantly more saturated over the past few years and as a result the job market is also highly competitive. If someone only had a CS degree with high honours but no real world experience or projects, the chances of them getting a tech job would be low. That being said, to maximise your chances of getting a prestigious job, you must go out of your way during university to apply/prepare for internships through practising coding problems (Leetcode), work on notable projects, and learn how to optimise your CV for screening. Also just apply to tons of internships and jobs, as even if you don't get an offer it's great experience and will strengthen your skills. Applying as early as possible once an application opens also boosts your chances. Finally, it's true that knowing the right people through networking and getting referrals from them can help get your foot in the door. Anyways, all the best :)
@@zafaris great reply, thanks man, wish you all the best :)
No worries and thanks! Same to you :)
Great vid bro, hope to carry on seeing videos.
Thanks bro! When work starts I’m gonna need to schedule things properly 🙏🏽
Assalam Aleikum bro, What would be your advice for smashing the dissertation for cs?
W salam bro! My advice would be to choose a topic that you are genuinely interested in, find a good supervisor for said topic, and work on it consistently from early on. All the best
Privileged! What's your age bro ?
Yeah I’m lucky bro, 21
It cost the same as here in the US at the average state school
Quite interesting 😮
Got this recommended to me. Congratulations.
Thanks a lot 🙏🏽
i just started first year software engineering, when should i start applying to internships?
Hey! Usually in first year you’d apply for spring weeks and internships from September-December. Lots of companies have already opened or will soon open their applications!
will still slap you on table tennis and tennis
need to post more man
Tell me about it bro 😶🌫️
Find a job

Congratulations! You made it! Wishing you the best in your future. Stay in touch. 👏

congrats! wish u all the best !
Thanks so much! 😄🙏🏽
Congrats bro I graduated CS in 2022. Have spent the time since travelling. Your reflections on University are very similar to mine, I think the biggest lesson is to appreciate every moment as you don't realise how much you will miss things when they are gone. Good luck in the future !
Ay that’s amazing to hear bro, I’d love to hear where you travelled to! 100% man, it’s difficult but trying to live more in the present moment is so important. Thanks and all the best to you as well :)
finding someone with the same name as me randomly on my recommended page caught me off guard XD. May Allah bless you with ur future endeavours akhi.

How can I make friends as a commuting student? I litterly have no friends now that I am a first year in college. My college is small and I have only found one person that is "friend-worthy". everyone at computer science related clubs are just geeks without a personality. Do you have any tips to find friends? (I'm a sociable guy, but cant find good friends)
Hey man! Honestly I would say your best bet to make friends is to find people with common interests through societies and clubs - not just CS related. So join any societies related to your hobbies/interests, sports clubs, or even something completely new! Although I would suggest your main priority should be societies, in addition to this go to as many events as you can around campus, start conversations with people, message in group chats. Wishing you all the best :)
Did you live at home whilst at Uni, or did you stay in student accommodation etc.
So I stayed in student accommodation during my first year at university, and then for my second and third year I lived in private accommodation together with some of my friends.
Glad you had a great time at uni. The travelling sounds amazing. Where did you find the 6 week programme in Japan?
Thanks man! Travelling has been such an enriching experience and I'm truly blessed to have visited so many places. About the Japan program, my friend actually found out about it through our university and did it first, and then he recommended it to me since he enjoyed it so much. The program I did is called: Come On Out Japan - Global English Camp.
Great vid man
Appreciate it my guy 🙏🏽
Hey i watched a previous vid you made where u said that u moved accomodation in term 2 ,how did u manage to do this and where did u move to ?
Hey! Someone sent a message in our accom WhatsApp gc saying that their friend is moving out from College Hall and needs to find a replacement. I messaged them immediately and it worked out!
How did you manage to switch accom In term 2

MY G♥️ starting university today! Your videos really sold the uni to me, I'm really excited but I'm also super nervous to make friends. Do you think I'll be cooked if I don't have a laptop for the first month or so? Modules I'll be doing are principles of programming, engineering challenges and 1 other one (for the first month)
Yoo let's goo my guy, super exciting! Wow I'm glad I could help you out and it's honestly mindblowing to me that the small videos I made had a real impact on someone's life. It's normal to be nervous about making friends, I was probably the most nervous out of everyone when I started, but join societies you find interesting or even try something new, and sports clubs even if its just casual - CSS for computer science stuff is great, and ISoc is a no-brainer as a Muslim student, I can guarantee you'll meet amazing brothers there. Also try to meet as many of your CS coursemates as you can, as you need people that you can study and struggle with together through the highs and lows of the degree. Trust me you'll be more than fine and hopefully create lifelong friendships, wishing you all the best iA :)
Just started uni and I already feel behind and lost. The course is soo hard man
Hey man! Uni can be pretty tough at the beginning, especially when you're doing a difficult degree such as CS. Some of my friends as well as many others hadn't done any programming before starting university, so they found it quite tough. I know you might be feeling behind, but try your best to keep up with your lectures and whenever you don't understand something find other resources to help out - there's so many great resources such as books, online courses, and especially RUclips videos. I found these invaluable to supplement my learning throughout my degree. Also, try to make friends with some of your CS coursemates, who will become your support and you can help each other survive throughout the degree. Make sure you're also taking care of your health as that's incredibly important for your overall wellbeing, and try to join societies and clubs so you can meet new people and enjoy uni as well. You've got this, all the best my friend :)
How was UCL as a university?
Quite balanced in my opinion. Not as workload heavy as certain other top universities like Oxbridge and Imperial, so you are able to have a decent social life and there's tons of societies and clubs to join from interests to sports. The campus itself isn't that big but I liked it, especially the student centre. Location in London is prime, right next to Tottenham Court Road, close to Oxford St and Chinatown, so there's countless options for food, places to visit and things to do nearby. And I'd say the people are overall pretty chill and friendly.
Allahumma baarik editing is cold 🥶
Jazakallah khair bro, cmon 💪🏽
Haha I just graduated in CompSci too. Same as you mate, now what
Many congrats to you as well, David! All the best for the future mate 😄
Best of luck 🎉 congrats!
Thanks a lot! 😄
Great insights! “Sometimes you have to miss it to get it. “ My reflection for the uni at UCL cs is that u gotta surround yourself with good people and try more possibilities and just do it!
Thanks! I agree, taking up opportunities that come your way is so important and helps you develop as a person.
Great video allahumma barik
