Separating Art From The Artist and Why We're All Hypocrites
It's probably not possible to be a perfectly consistent consumer of music/art without making some arbitrary calls.
Also just assume I have the same political opinions as you thanks.

Is Revolution 9 Really the Beatles’ Worst Song?
Просмотров 734Год назад
In any discussion of the Beatles worst song, there is bound to be discussion of Revolution 9, easily the most "avant-garde" release of the band's entire career. While it's far for the band's greatest song, the status of Revolution 9 as "The Beatles' Worst Song" is not deserved, especially when considered in terms of the song's contribution to the White Album.

It's finally here, god's gift to mankind. Mr Morale & The Big Steppers Review and How Hype Effects Listening to Music
Просмотров 2132 года назад
Kendrick Lamar's latest album Mr. Moral & The Big Steppers has probably been my most anticipated album of the year if not the last few years even before anything was known about it. With the album finally here though, I've noticed how that sort of hype can actually have negative effects with how I appreciate a release, so in this video in addition to a review of the latest Kendrick album, I've ...

How to Review An Album. A DEEP DIVE INTO THE PROCESS
Просмотров 1932 года назад
Art criticism is a complicated topic, and in this video I offer a semi-formal lecture on the nature of that criticism and how to best apply it to albums. I go over four questions in the video: "Should you include numerical scores in your reviews?", "What format should the review follow?", "What albums should you review?", and "How long should the review be?"
Pitchfork's Newest Reader's Poll Is a Disgrace
Просмотров 6492 года назад
For Pitchfork's 25 year anniversary, they polled their readers on the best albums since 1996. The poll's results were more illustrative about the demographics of pitchfork's readership than the actual best albums of the last twenty five years (which would of course would be my opinion). this list is admittedly better than your average readers poll SIDE NOTE: i know i don't actually go over any ...
Donda by Kanye West REVIEW. The craziest album rollout since the last one

Kanye West's Donda has finally released, but even then it's complicated. It's his longest album yet, and there's a lot to parse through. Reactions have been mixed, but I think there's a lot to adore here despite it's very surface level issues. spoiler 8.5/10

Rock orientated but incl all genres except techno. At least 13 of my records are mentioned in that list. Hghest is Abbey Road, Beatles, 2nd Led Zep IV somewhere around Position 30. But boy, you've ranked Dark Side Of The Moon somewhere around 90...lol. I totaly miss for example Sweet woth Desolation Boulevard ( u.s. edotion ) Sweet with Sweet Fanny Adams, Killer by Alice Cooper, Aja- Steely Dan, one out of the great Thin Lizzy records. May the Live and Danegreous Live-Lp. To mention only a few. Rock on from Berlin,Germany

Hi, nice list. You look at the time of recording to be under 25ish?? (Please accept this as a compliment from a 67 year old). My request, when you reach 35, is to look and revise as necessary. I’m not offering any suggestions on alternatives, but it’s interesting to see how your opinion (not taste) changes. FWIW, my 1st album was the US version of The Beatles for Sale, Beatles 65, for my Catholic Confirmation at 8 years old. This was the end of the “early” Beatles, but I played it too… well…

I haven't listened to dsotm in 3 years, but cmon now. it's better than 90 percent of what you listed above it. the other 5 percent I think are better, the other 5 percent I haven't listened to enough or at all. a lot of the albums feels like the only album you've listened to of the artist. id say this is more your favorite albums of all time, since it does seem limited in knowledge of albums edit: this list is objective dog shit 😭😭

When you know the stories behind the making of the White Album, and how troubled it was, self titling it as “The Beatles” has kind of a somber, melancholy and ironic tone to it. Like a family constantly fighting with each other and then smiling for a family picture.

I don’t really get why To Pimp A Butterfly stands so low on your list. As you said, every song stands on it’s own and the greater concept is incredibly deep. Not to mention George Clinton and Thundercat’s insane contributions to the overall amazing production of the record. What is the reason that it’s behind 74 other records in this list, while many critics would argue that this album is a top 20 record at the very least?

    • @__FISH_
      @__FISH_ 25 дней назад

@@hugosoller7975 i think what makes revolver so timelessly incredible is how well it holds up with today’s standards and possibly tomorrow’s. I think tpab has a couple fillers (not lyrically, just musically) like for sale, hood politics and momma. (These are personal preferences of course). However in revolver, i think the amount of feelings you get from each song surpasses anything ive ever heard- except yellow submarine that song sucks. Apart from that, songs like love you to and tomorrow never knows are so fucking futuristic and innovative. That was the Beatles’ artistical peak. Idk man tpab might be more meaningful but it doesnt give me the same emotions i get from “for no one” or “here there and everywhere”.
