Awesome extreme bo staff karate form. Madison, Wisconsin Mr. Mike Welch, 4th degree black belt. Once ranked #1 in the world in weapons & bo. This won him Grand Champion with perfect score @ Southern Wisconsin Open...Sep.06.
This is my dream martial arts to learn
I am in that school who runs the tournament
Mucha energía desperdiciada un verdadero artista marcial no hace tantas muecas y gestos por lo regular son serenos fluidos suaves aguiles y a la ves explosivos y más veloces.
Well executed! 👊🏼👍🏻
awesome but id prefer without the music
The invisible enemy definitely died.
You call that karate?
Impractical
The new player select of "SOUL CALIBUR 2020"....GUASSHH
Very acrobatic but is it combat technique
Real life nightwing
I found Darth Mull.
Really ....? 😳
I also have memes!
if someone met the guy of the video please tell him not to say he study karate, he´s embarassing us
This is REALLY impressive! I have great admiration for the discipline it must have taken for this man to perform this routine!
yea besides the gay ass music nice video
For everyone asking that is mike welsh
This guy..wow!
I see that American Martial Arts are adding in a lot of CHEERLEADER BATON TWIRLING and GYMNASTICS with no regard to what is useful in a street fight. Athletic - yes. But, practical - only some of it in a fight.
Mystery47 - Martial arts is not used in street fighting
Impressive to watch, however, it is surely just for show.
Bobby Table , you are quite correct and my apologies . martial arts is evolving and keeping people interested is what's important. I must say though if your going to use a weapon for demo at this speed ,you need to master control first as I've seen some serious injuries to by standers at Wushu comps. This is why some comp organizers don't allow fast freestyle demos. Cheers
Anyone know how to contact him to join our brotherhood?
Damn!
Honestly though, would you actually twirl your Bo like that and flip around in a real fight? It doesn't make much sense to me. Don't get me wrong it's amazing what this guy can do it just doesn't have any real life usefulness

HE A BEAST WITH THT STAFF FO REAL
Sifu, this was a demonstration technique, not a fighting technique. These competitions typically have both in several different forms to include fighting. "Baton twirling meets acrobatics" is an accurate analogy if there was a separate section for fighting with batons...I know some of the old schools martial artists don't get the demonstration side of the sport, but it is still part of the sport none the less. It is the individual taking skills and techniques far beyond what they have been taught. Don't diminish the hard work of the athletes...
Baton twirling meets acrobatics! Not a martial arts form by a long shot. Should be a separate sport for this stuff.
True Musou
wow. very inspiring, much dedication, meditation. centre.balance.
I like it, but they try and use light waight stuff and when it comes to sparing with a heavy set bo staff(ex: red oak) they would be messing up like crazy
I myself used to compete with an Iron Bo.....something most of these kids just wouldn't be able to handle...I also have some very nice( as in heavy) Kumi Bo, one I had picked up on Okinawa, and another I had made for me by Crane Mountain
I would love to see your guys' videos. and you would correct, the bo used in the video posted MAY be lightweight, yet "these kids" have and do use metal/ heavy wood bo. thats what we use to get faster with the lightweight. we are a step ahead of you "I myself" use a 30 lb. weight bar as a bo staff to improve my speed..(don't try to one up me by saying "oh yeah? well i use 50!" cuz thats BS.if you can do tosses with a 30 lb weight bar, then go ahead and brag, but all in all, that video showed that the form was not MEANT to be traditional, but something far more unique and entertaining. welcome to modern martial arts.
Eli Pohl you missed the point, I competed with a solid Iron Bo.....a bit heavier than a weight lifting bar.....good luck with your career
Tom O'Brien and it seems you have missed MY point. I said, it wasn't about one upping each other. Your comments early implied that we would be not as capable with a heavy bo. Which in fact is inaccurate. Because it is what we train with. Instead of adding sarcasm such as "good luck with your career" a good response would be, look at my competition bo form. And send a link. Maybe you would surprise someone. Yet all you come back with is :my staff is heavier than his staff.... Which is a crap comment. He might as well say his staff is far quicker than yours. It is all redundant. Post a video for others to like rather than bashing another persons style.
no sarcasm intended ...I do wish you good luck with your career
we should trade bo, you try and use mine, and I try not to break yours
edgy
I can do the second flip
What's it called then?
XMA channel gainer flash
Use oak ! Not 5 oz. Fiberglass Barbi stick can't your wrists handle it lol . Still badass though bro .....
Nice job, Mike. =)
check out my three section staff vids
Traditional my ass.
it would be good looking it in slomo and understand something of what's just happened
Holy shit that was awesome!
1:00 for the best kick. Ever.
Such a classic extreme bo form. 7 years later and i'm still in awe.
you would lose that bet....ever see him spar?
the unique weapon in Karate is the body. THIS IS NOT KARATE! this is some kind of trickster, kun fu or whatever.
jaw dropped :D
What is the name of the song used during this kata?
A bo held buckets, a sword a sword, a cama a farm tool
very nice kata
It's more of a dance than karate this is not karate in my eyes karate is being able to control ever attack and keep calm and be able to defend your self with your body not weapons or a light stick he is more of a gymnast/dancer I would want to see him in a sparring tournament against some one who knows how to fight without any weapons and I bet he probs wouldn't win
Long story short, as you so clearly said... his FORM was crisp... but his spirit and actual ability to harm someone was absolute shit. So unless your idea of "solid" martial arts is to be used to show off to some cutesy girl (which i don't wholly disapprove) you should go back and practice another 10 years before talking
Listen D***head, I bet You don't even sparr with the bo, so unless You show some footage of You sparring someone with the Bo, or some Dogbrothers stuff STFU!
