Supt Risner APOLOGIZES for communication and less than transparent operation to notify people about the discontinuation of FCS. I didn't attend the meeting but apparently it was stated at that time that AG LAB CLASSES could be planned in place of the FCS labs in the new building. THIS DOESN"T SOUND LIKE A TEMPORARY CUT for FCS CLASSES. I hope the school can address this discrepancy for us. I hope I've misunderstood and someone can tell us how many FCS classrooms are in the floor plan. The general plan shown in the Dec 10 drawing only shows general classrooms but not what type of classroom (e.g. classes which require lab space like science, ag, FCS foods class etc) UPDATED Jan 17, 2019: In a radio interview on iHeart Radio (Jan14) Superintedent Risner and AHS Principal state that this change is only for 2019-2020 school year. As someone who went to Nevada, Agriculture and FFA was a much bigger deal than FCS. Don't get me wrong, FCS is super important and it might be more relevant in terms of opportunities after high school, BUT this is Iowa.. Iowa State University for example has 4,400 students enrolled in an Ag related field vs 3700 enrolled in a FCS (most of which is Kinesiology/health). If the opposite had happened and Ames was deciding to get rid of Ag, they would have a ton of FFA parents showing up.

Unfortunately District did not answer how "open space" concept help to learning process.It will be more distinctive, more noise pollution and LESS SAFETY than standard school .Because it going to be bigger and more expansive ( $105 mil) than average school( $75 mil),we going to spend around $300,000 annually from operational money on utilities , maintains and sanitation,instead of education .District should reevaluate what they doing.
