Dripping Bucket
Добавлен 2 янв 2024
Join hosts Krystle Matar and Michael R. Fletcher as they chat about books, writing, art and artists, and all things publishing. Much as we'd love to make promises about what you can expect here, we're far too disorganized for that. However, I can't help but believe the dumpster fire will be at least somewhat entertaining.
Writing in the Shadow of our Heroes - with guest Stephen Aryan
David Gemmell is back on the host's minds as they share the books that influenced them the most, give recommendations for anyone looking to dip their toes into Gemmell's backlist, and all around chat about influences and genre. Spoiler alert: some of our hosts like it dark!

Great interview! Thanks for all your kind comments! 🖤
So, the sin of omission is not such a sin in short stories it seems
Really fun chat 🙌🏻
Tag me when it's ready. I'm saving a credit 🤪🙌🏻🥳
Buhelman is my favorite author/narrator.
I love your work on Blackstone Heart 🖤
Top five anticipated audiobook for me 🎉🤪🤓
You don't need a fantasy vibe to have a Dripping Bucket, Adrian. I put one in my space opera.
The Bucket belongs EVERYWHERE
Very true 😉
The Bucket IS everywhere! Writers only reveal the locations, sometimes hesitantly cos' the net can be a fractious place, and no good writer would jeopardize their favorite tavern by revealing it to the wrong audience.@@DrippingBucket
BARCON BARCON BARCON BARCON
BARCON IS BEST CON
I make many a comment on Facebook giving crap to the likes of authors like Dyrk Ashton, Fletcher and Jed. Not sure y'all play just cause I give ya money, buuuut you best bet my jives will be tested without fear come in person meetings! That said, I may owe an apology to folks like Anna SmithSpark cause I may desire her to read to me a bedtime story and im not sure how such could not be odd if not creepy. Hahaha Thanks for the laughs on embarrassing ourselves for the sake of friendship with our favorite writers! Hope to join the ranks one day officially. It be nice to pop the cherry on such things as my 20's were spent setting up for con participants. Ahhh, another life indeed 😜 Godspeed and thanks for another killer ep.
One day I’ll make it to a world con
They're looking at Brisbane in a couple of years! (I think, don't quote me on that, since I was often drunk during WorldCon)
@@DrippingBucket ha ha fair enough. Yes I had heard that its a possibility, look forward to having you all down under
This was great fun! Loved all the insight into the kickstarter struggles. Huge congrats to Michael for his insane success!
Thank you! Wish the other half of the Bucket team luck as they set forth on a similar journey! :D
It’s criminal Michael isn’t a constant NYT best selling author
You heard it here first! Michael is a criminal!!
Can’t wait for Seattle! 💕
It can't come soon enough!
I’d just like Michael to go so someone can take a picture and prove to me he’s not actually black and grey
He's definitely black and grey!
Oh no, you forget to mention Ryan and Jeff at the Birmingham meal out. There will be tears before bedtime now....
It's not my fault I was so excited to see YOU!
@DrippingBucket ha! 😂😂😂
See you in Seattle!
Looking forward to it!
Great discussion. Recently finished reading Callus & Crow and the premise of book 2 sounds really interesting.
Y'all just click with folks so bad 😜 ... Teasing, teasing Shame can't get joe Rogan time with folks, but perhaps thats how ya get us coming back! 😂Besides maybe theD0j0, I can't think of a better writing pod. Love ya, f00ls!!
Ps any chance y'all got a url I can plug into my Podcast addict vs your RUclips channel??? No hate if not, just thought id ask.
This was so much fun 🎉 Thabk you.
Let's go
Alsooooo we kinda all really want more romance in fantasy
Michael’s line about “how do I take this and jam it into somebody else’s brain” is probably the best thing I’ve ever heard about writing.
We're in the business of jamming stuff into people's brains 😆
Andy is a legend! Such a fun chat, thanks for hosting 😋
Isn't he great? He's definitely going to be a repeat guest!
Mark Lawrence next book is staring an old grandma aged woman
Clearly, Adam and Fletcher are setting a trend!
Loved this chat! Just a bunch of experienced indie authors rambling, I eat this stuff up!
Ah, thank you!! We're so glad to hear it :D
Uncle Dyrk! 🤩
So nice of Uncle Dyrk to stop by!
I think discussing failing washing machines in a show called Dripping Bucket is completely apropos
Right?? It's almost like we know what we're doing!
Wait, isn’t that Dyrk on both screens?
CORRECT, you passed the pop quiz!
I have so much trouble stringing a sentence together that I couldn't write a chonker if I tried. Whenever I feel like a chapter's sluggish I try starting the scene later and finishing earlier. Keep it tight and moving quick. Leave more implied than showing every detail and action.
What, nobody would agree to come on your show anymore? (I kid, I kid, you guys are terrific. Krystle could write shorter if she lost some of that interiority I keep bothering her about.)
You can take my interiority from my cold dead hands BERNE
Both of your WIPs sound like such a fun time. My process is like Krystle's. I find it hard to do worldbuilding separately before I've spent some time with the characters...50k worldbuilding docs is a lot haha Love this chat, always appreciate the author wisdom 😊
Thank you for being on the correct side of the conversation! (Don't tell Fletcher) To me, people ARE the story, the rest is just set dressed XD
Excellent episode folks!
Thank you!!
Thanks again guys! It was really fun!
Nice to see Daniel on the other side of the microphone!
Thank you my friend, it was a fun time 😊
Right?! He was great to have on, can't wait to see him launch his debut!
Great episode. Keep up the awesome work guys.
I didn't know much about Michael, but what a cool guy he is! Thanks for hosting this, it was an absolute blast :)
Thanks for stopping by the Bucket!
Such a great follow up chat. P.L is an absolute gentleman. Thanks for hosting him!
We're big fans of PL around here, glad you enjoyed it!
I can relate to the flameout at 50-60K. I feel like that “this is fine” dog meme only there’s no door
I swear every sentence PL started with "in my 50's" I was in here saying 'amen' out loud.
Humbled by this opportunity! No doubt it is the interviewers, Krystle and Michael, who are the true community pillars - we are so grateful for them! Thanks to both of you, I had a blast doing this! Can't wait to watch part 2 of the interivew!
PL is a legend! Such a great guy.
He's ok. I guess.
UM he's excellent actually.
Awesome chat! Love seeing PL in the hotseat for once 😁
Oh man. If I can't take criticism I shouldn't be a writer? Really, Fletcher? Where were you five years ago to tell me this before I started???
My bad. Once I have this damned time machine fixed, I'll go back and have a chat with you. Uh...what career SHOULD you have pursued?
@@DrippingBucket while you're fixing the time machine I expect you to figure that out for me.
@@jcmberne Bad news, it turns out taking criticism may actually be part of life. Good luck!
Unfortunately, I have OCD. I can't drop a book even when I am hating it. Sometimes it pays off like the eleventh cycle by Kian Ardalan, which I love so much now. Sometimes it just drags on and on and I am burnt out by the end. Lucky for me, most of the time, I can discern if i’ll like a book before I even start. Huge fan of Fletcher & PL. You have my sub.
Thank you! It's good that you're able to triage books before you crack them open, although it must be really rewarding to find those "gems" that turn around and wind up better than you expected at the start!
I showed this episode to Brandon and he's not happy with you. Still wouldn't drop an F-bomb, though.
He's nothing if not consistent!
So long as he drops the name Dripping Bucket, we're golden
Kind of disturbing seeing the two Michaels side by side here.
Proof they're two separate people, at least! Now to prove Michael is actually Dyrk.
@@DrippingBucketRequires magic beyond my means. Besides - do we really wanna know?
@@MichaelVoss-ud3gv you're right, but it's already too late. The answers are coming.
Gotta say I've wondered about the proper pronunciation of integral since Larry Niven's The Integral Trees. That he simply named the sequel The Smoke Ring was a gift.
Is this your first cast where all three participants wear the same glasses, lol?! I mean, not *exactly* the same, but damn close! Nice to see Mr Michel on the Bucket. Only part I wasn't clear on was whether he pronounces his last name "Mitchell" (which I never would have thought) or more like French Michel? As someone whose last name gets mispronounced frequently, I need to know this.
French!
LOL I noticed the glasses, too, this isn't the first time we're all wearing them, but definitely the first time all the frames match XD
So is “Grimbug” going to be the next genre Michael gets associated with?
A Bug's Life: A Grimdark Retelling
The world needs more moonhounds for sure.
Absolutely!
