Indian Ocean Winter Sunset Ride on a Harley Davidson
The biggest challenge in riding in the south of WA is boredom and a sore butt. Its about endurance. The roads tend to be straight and run straight into the sun. There is little stimulus as all you do is belt along at high speed . You can often do any speed the bike is comfortable with. The Southern Cross to Kal region is more remote. But if you're on a main road....theres usually just one....theres lots of traffic and need help. Modern bikes and tyres are reliable .
Thats not the OutBack. Its open because they bulldozed everything to have wheat farms. It's why they have drought and salinity problems. Thats the most developed part of Western Australia. Theres 2 million people and hundreds of towns in that square Perth, Kalgoorlie Esperance . All major roads are crawling with traffic including caravans in their thousands. Its not the outback. All petrol stations are close together. Theres cafes in every little town. Theres RAC towing. Theres farmers to ask for help. With a reliable modern vehicle its safe andceasy. Roos come out at dawn and dusk only. They have set paths where they cross roads. The 1000 mile in one hit is hard, but not the location.
I’ve done a couple of Iron Butt rides back in the UK. It’s harder on your body than most people think and takes a few days to recover from. Did it on GS1200 the first time. I was knackered physically after 600miles. Ok mentally, but the GS was good for the first 500miles, I was sore by 600miles and didn’t want to ever see it again after 1024miles. Next time I did it was on a Rocket 111 tourer. I had done just over 1000miles when I finished in 19hrs give or take, but felt fresh enough to have done another 500 and made it a Butt Burner. I wasn’t prepared for it, but could have easily done it. I didn’t stay and ride the 300miles home after I finished. It was an organised event with specific start and end points raising money for the UK British Legion. It’s a great sense of achievement and knowing what you went through you have my respect and congratulations.
Congrats to you too mate. Great achievment.
You wouldn`t find me riding a motorcycle after dark in the Aussi outback. Hit any of the wildlife and you probably won`t survive it.
Yeah, it is a bit hairy, but I had to keep pushing on. Takes a lot of concentration and focus watching out for wildlife.
Lights are good now. Roads are generally pretty wide. As long as you’re prepared to ease off and take lots of breaks after dark you should be okay.
Great effort. I would of been at the pub in Esperance for the night. Only because I'm a soft ass rider hahahah 😂
I did think about it. 😆
Bungees are so scary. My second one and it doesn’t get any easier. What makes us do these crazy things ?
Waaaaaa I can’t stop watching videos on this bungy! I’m heading there in March to do this on my 40th birthday! I’ve been waiting years for this can’t bloody wait! Just insane love iiiiiiit!
@@samwainwright1753 you will love it. It’s insane 😁
Well done
Great part of the country. 😊
He doesn't sound Australian !! Midlands accent I'd say ? West midlands ? My brother lives around this area somewhere south west of Perth
Or west country ?
@@Sam_Green____4114 West Country. Plymouth.
Fantastic effort..Great to see people out and about where most don't dare go.
Thanks
Great effort - I'm working up my distances to tackle an Iron Butt. What distances were you looking at between each stop/checkpoint?
Thanks Planned refuel around every 200km. Servos are spread out in the rural areas and didn’t want to run out of fuel. Played safe. Where are you planning to ride.
@ perfect, after 200k I’m ready for a stretch of the legs.
i couldnt think of anything worse 😆
I could do that with my eyes shut....
@@howunacceptibleofme2145 Best you give it a go then.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year 😃👍
Merry Christmas & Happy new year to you.

Interesting content

New friend here
😂 brilliant, well done Dave, trip of a life time ❤
It certainly was. Do it again sometime. ❤
Rachel martin Pinch for night camping last night
at least you got to the other side the ferries usually lose power, crash into the shore, lose their anchors ,worst than third world ferries
😮Lucky it was a calm day.
Absolutely beautiful mate. A shame that old bridge at Ross is now closed.
That’s sad news. Hope they re open it.
😂
Lovely and green
Loved it Dave well done, great how your lens bent the light house and flag pole, great images from the drone.
Well I don’t need to go now you filmed that brilliantly, looked a fab trip, glad you speeded up Bevs driving or I might have been sat up all night watching it 😅
Beautiful country isn't it!!!!!
Yes it is. Absolutely stunning !!!!
Awesome video! Thank you for documenting your HBF run! I'm pretty hyped to do the 12km HBF RUN for this year :))
Good luck. It’s a great event.
The editing is actually so good 👍
Getting good at editing 😁🤟 love it!
Thank you.

Great footage, definitely going faster now, glad your still dropping it, makes good viewing 😜
Thanks mate
Brilliant
Thankyou
Cool video. My first bike was a wr250r, I’ve always wanted to try the 300L to see how they compared, it’s a shame Yamaha doesn’t make a wr300r. But ether way I love all things dual sport, and hope to get another soon. It’s the greatest way to experience life on 2 wheels. Also I’m a proud owner of a 2022 fxlrs 🤘 just subbed, keep up the good work and ride safe, cheers from California 🤙
Thanks mate. I am loving the CRF completely different ride to the fxlr . There are always the tracks you pass on your Harley that you would love to ride up but wouldn't dare. That's where the CRF comes in. There is no place I can't go. Loving it. Love riding
@@Finnimoto I love my Harley but It’s no replacement for a proper dual sport. Ride on 🤘
Looks amazing Dave, it surprises me what the bike is capable of, some of those ditches and slopes look quite challenging. Have you come across any wildlife out there, kangaroos etc. nice river, carry a hand line to see if you can catch anything interesting, a small lure or worm might do the trick 😜
I am going to get a telescopic rod and catch you a fish 😀
Geddon Janor
Thanks mate
Love watching these boys down under, ‘Live to Ride’
Thanks mate👍
Bloody hard work picking them up, good job on that slope 👍
Thanks mate. It was tough picking bike up on the slope. I thought I may have been stopping there the night. Got there in the end. 😅
Time to buy a metal detector Dave 😅
😂
Brilliant video well done, loved the ride home as much as you did 👏👏👏
Your hills make me laugh 😂
Looks lovely and flat, well done 👏
Funny big hill lol, thought you came from Devon Uk 😜
😂
12k Dave well done mate, was it hot looked like it, enjoy it don’t push it, setting me a target lol
Yes mate was hot. Triathalon next 😅
Thanks for vid. I just got a 300L & about the same skill level. I wish I had others to ride with & same awesome terrain. Keep ‘em coming!
I feel the same way!
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice one Dave, looks good fun, very picturesque 👏
Thanks 👍
Enjoyed that, nice one 👍
Thanks mate 😊
Awesome 👏🏻
Thank you!
We enjoyed watching that ride Dave, brought back memories, wasn’t it shut when we visited last. It’s nice that you can ride all year round over there, not a privilege we share in the UK.
It was shut. You will have to re visit. It also reminded me of our ride, Awesome day that was.
Beautiful 👏 👏 👏
Thank you! 😊
