My wife was named after this great jazz standard. I learned and recorded it when we were dating 11 years ago. I barely remember playing it now!

    Ha! Thanks. I don’t post much, occasionally a part for a student if I don’t like the tutorials offered here. Mostly there’s always a good one, maybe I didn’t like what I saw for this song I can’t remember 😂 Beato is a mighty gift to us all isn’t he?

    I liked a comment you made on Rick Beato's channel so I came here. Your playing is cool. And that guitar is gorgeous.

    Ah yes, tuned down a semi-tone. Ukulele hunt has this covered: ukulelehunt.com/2009/06/25/elliott-brood-the-valley-town-tab/ But Jim's tutorial here is very helpful, once you have the Uke tuned right!

  • @GallowayKelly
    @GallowayKelly 9 лет назад

    My Uke is tuned with standard "my dog has fleas" (GCEA) also, but I don't get anything close to this when I play those frets! Have you done something different like what Benny Birelli (below) said he had to do?

    I tried playing this song with standard tuning and it did not sound right. Tuned everything a half-step down and it sounded perfect. So I think that it should be G# D# B F# with G# closest to your feet

    • @ggysbers
      @ggysbers 5 лет назад

      "It's all relative." It sounds ok the way it is with standard tuning (GCEA) - except that this WILL NOT MATCH THE E Brood RECORDING ... so yes, to match the recorded version .... exactly what you said: tune every string one semi-tone DOWN. (PS. I'm still trying to figure out WHY they did it this way.... better match/intonation with other instruments?)

    This is really cool but i have one constructive criticism. You should improve, actually change your picking technique. And i don't refer to the gypsy-jazz technique; which is difficult to adopt but of course the best for jazz manouche. I mean you hold the pick rather powerless. I feel uncomfortable saying this stuff, who am i? And of course there is this thesis that everyone should play as they are comfortable but who is comfortable when you try to learn a new technique? Learn it from themasters

    Great job...since you are so good you should consider learning how to rest stroke pick and play all down strokes an every string change...that's how they get the authentic gypsy sound...I myself am just begining to get it.

    do you think you could upload the backing track to youtube or to another website and share the link so that I could also try to solo over it? Thanks !! :D Great playing again . . .

  • @jimo50
    @jimo50 13 лет назад

    @miroslavsafin I made it myself. I'm not much of a bass player, but I did what I could. A few of Mr. Wrembel's versions seemed to have slightly different chords in the rhythm part, so I went with a combination of sorts. His performance on the Kojo Nnamdi show is so great, he improvises freely at times,much more so than I can. It's a lot of fun to play that's for sure.
