    I agree, people that should know better, causing disturbance. Including those that decide to talk loudly when walking between hides. Dog walkers on reserves definitely. As a past warden, I have even had loose dogs go for me off of the lead on the reserves. Beautiful black tern photos! Disturbing to see so many birds with affected feet. As for swans I prefer to say 'Hooper' rather than 'Wooper'. But I know people that say 'Wooping cough' rather than 'Hooping'. But we all have our preferences and know exactly what the others mean if we say the opposite. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing what you may encounter and photograph this coming winter!

      @@SulakvelidzeCustom I’m still maintaining that being able to go down to 200mm is essential. I’d say a large number of my shots & video take place in the 500-600mm range. And as I said here and to others, a bird takes off, you throw up a fixed 800mm, chances are you will tale several seconds to get it in frame. With my lens, keep it at 200mm, bird goes up, straight into frame, zoom out all you want.

    • @SulakvelidzeCustom

      @@stormcabbirdsI’m not inexperienced at all and I agree fully that it’s not easy at all. When you study species behaviour and generally know what you’re doing - you don’t need to zoom around. It all boils down to what you’re doing and trying to achieve. In no means your zoom is crap but no way you’d be picking up zoom over prime that’s few stops brighter and not much of a weight difference. In canon ecosystem I’d be picking your zoom, there are no adequately priced primes.

    • @ericvaughan11
      @ericvaughan11 9 дней назад

      @@SulakvelidzeCustomYes there is, their EF primes work great on mirrorless bodies at half the price. I promise you they are just as sharp as any of the new lenses. A good EF 500mm f/4 II you can find used in $4000 range. Add EF 1.4 III Extender and you have 700mm f/5.6 lens. Awesome low light combo. Then if light is descent to good I pull out the 200-800mm lens, that zoom range is incredible for wildlife. Nobody else makes lens like that.

    • @SulakvelidzeCustom
      @SulakvelidzeCustom 9 дней назад

      @@ericvaughan11the reason being that rf telephoto primes are pretty much same ef with a converter soldered on. Whole point in the mirrorless is sharper and lighter glass. I’ve had the ef500f4l is usm mk1. Had the g series 500f4 f mount. Still have the f mount 300f2.8vr2. They are great lenses but in harsh lighting conditions newer mirrorless designed lenses are far superior with diffraction and contrast. One of the reasons that your zoom at f9 is still sharp when older designs deteriorate past f8. I use 180-600f5.6-6.3 as a scouting lens when I’m first time on the location. I get what you’re saying. I’m never coming back with the zoom though, I’m always taking one of the primes. On the teleconverters though - you use them for magnification at the same distance, not for gaining reach. You can’t shoot extended lens like the prime in the same focal length and expect same results. Anyways, thanks for your responses, it’s all about shooting first and your gear does the job really well :-) Cheers from UK

    If can afford it...yes you absolutely DO want it and it is NOT throwing your money away at all. Always getting those extra f stops is not doing the work for you - It is allowing you to do MORE work. "...traveling...extra hassle" - You just finished saying it's not going to do the work for you, but then turn around and give reasons for not having one because it's too much work. lol. "....you've got heat haze, smoke, etc...." well those conditions apply to a 'cheaper' lens just as much. Which means having better gear is that much more important to minimize undesired results. "...zoom...much more success....fixed, miss 95% of your shots" If you can afford that expensive lens you can afford alternative lens for different situations. Missing shots 95% of the time is the result of not being a very good photographer. A good experienced photographer will be able to anticipate what gear to be using 95% of the time beforehand. That means choosing when to use your 18k lens or not, to get your shot most of the time. "...travel often(flying).." If you can fly often enough that there is concern about baggage size, etc.,...you probably can afford that lens too. But don't forget....all my points are based on if you CAN afford it. If one can't afford it, meaning they can buy it but puts financial pressure on themselves, then you're absolutely right. Getting the lesser expensive gear is the way to go because you still will have many opportunities to get great shots.

    You are right rf 800 mm too expensive. Problem of Canon system that , there aren’t any middle price prime lens. Nikon had 800 mm pf lens it’s cost only 6000 USD . It’s lighter than rf 800 , but 1/3 stops slower.

      @@johnscott9869 yeah but again, you can’t zoom back. Many shots I can’t fit into 800mm. Also, put an 800mm at a bird flying, and likely you won’t find it for several seconds. With a zoom you can start at 200 and zoom in.

    Hi. I am Sheppey born and bred, moving away in 2016. I was a member as soon as the scheme started “ in the old days pre camping etc” . My favourite place, and my special days were just watching the hares from the car. This has bought back such wonderful memories. Great topic. What are your thoughts on F9 at 800mm in UK conditions? Is is fast enough with a mirrorless full frame camera? The price difference in these lens is reason enough to go for the 200-800 but I'd want to make sure that F9 is usable in those gloomy UK days..

    Super video as ever. I shoot with an R3 & R5 MkII. For longer shots I have my trusty EF600 MkII with RF converter. Since picking up my 200-800, the 600 has not been out of its bag. That may change for lower light wildlife (otter) shots in Scotland this Winter, but for now I’m loving the 200-800 and have no issues with f9 @800mm. DxO PureRaw 4 cleans up higher ISO files nicely.

    What a fantastic video, transfixed from start to finish. It just shows what urban birding can be like, at least in that location. Superb and informative narration too. I know from Malaysian birding (once a tear trip) that heat and humidity can be very tiring too at 33c or more. As a baldie I can say you have an advantage with that protective thick hair cover haha! Re the 200-800 lens, have you found it difficult to zoom in and out with your fingers having to do 2 or 3 turns while trying to keep tabs on the object at the same time. I also see YT videos saying the R7 is prone to some sensor "shake" solved by switching from mechanical to electronic shutter operation. I guess you're happy with that combination and in fact want this myself. Thanks for taking us birding around H.K. Subbed!
