I love this cover and every time it shows up on my queue. Usually folks complain insensibly about cover songs. Also, It’s actually nice each comment in this thread appreciates this version, and without getting stung out comparing it to the original haha. This version makes me want to slow dance with my girl… then throw on some Rob Zombie and get really busy haha.

A longer version of this (on the Shots in the Dark compilation) was my first exposure to Nan Vernon. Her voice here, the spare arrangement, and lo-fi touches are marvelous. I was happy shortly after to find Nan's solo CD. She has a very special quality.
Yes, it's a lovely version of the song. I do have the longer version, featuring the Japanese (I believe) version. I can't remember why at the time, but I only posted the English version. Might post the other one eventually, or repost this including the full song.
An intense, fervent, and beautiful take on an old favorite. I'd expect nothing less from Nan Vernon.

Sorry to disappoint, but I am NOT Nan Vernon. Although, I'd love to see her live too! I'm not sure where she is or what she's doing now. I tried to find out a few years ago, but no luck.
Every time I hear this, I think of my daughters when they were 7 and 5 singing along.......now I think of them even more because they chose their abusive and psychotic dad over me, and they still do because he's turned them against me and they don't want anything to do with me. I miss my daughters so much, it hurts.......loving my daughters hurt.

Usually I'd turn it off immediately after it ended, but I was on my phone in bed and the credits came on and I immediately stopped what i was doing and just listened to you sing 🖤

I remember ONTICK supporting Nan Vernon 28th July 1994 in the Lomax Liverpool. I seem to remember Cast provided the support the night before in London. I wonder if she remembers the gig? special times and it was£3 an absolute bargan ✌

Putting this on 1.5x makes it sound like the original rhythmically and even it sounds so unnatural since I’m so used to the creepy tone of this version but I also like it at the same time since I love the original lol.

I always liked this darker toned version of the original version, fits the movie better
I suppose it does fit the film better. I think the normal song fits the original well, though. The fact that the tone completely mismatches the atmosphere works to its benefit. It's ironic, and makes it even more haunting, to me. But I love Nan Vernon's version of ANY song.
I just listened to the late 50s version, but this one hits much better ! Plus, it's in my favorite franchise by one of my favorite directors/ musicians!

@@nanvernon1051The version i'm talking about is more "simple" with just like a music box for music. I absolutly love it and have on CD single (the Elvis Waits Part I). You can find it sometimes for sell on internet i think :)
