This is a learn to play the ukulele channel dedicated to absolute beginner musicians. The ukulele is a wonderful versatile accessible instrument that is fun and relatively easy to learn. Advanced Beginner Ukulele - Lesson 11 - Margaritaville - tab riff and key of D - Mute strum
Hello musicians, here is a more challenging song for you to work on with the well known riff which is shown in tab style, the alternative to note reading. This song is a 1 4 5 in the Key of D which translates to chords of D (1) G (4) and A (5). I demo the mute strum a bit more as well.

Thank for this video. You're the only person who has said this song is in 4/4 time and explained how many beats each chord has
You are very welcome. It can be confusing of course for new players to understand the beats per chord and they often are not shown on many song charts. It helps with this to play songs you know and use your ear (most people have been listening to music all their lives and know more than they realize as such to what is right musically) to listen to the melody when singing, as melody must fit in with the chords or it sounds off. The melody notes must fit the chord being played or it sounds discordant, which most people can hear. Learning to count the bars is a great way to add to skills. I will do a video on this subject!

Changing a key was totally new to me. Going to work on this on a couple of tunes like I’ll Try Away and Amazing Grace. Also BTW I am working every day. Yesterday I was able to move tunes from 60 BTM to 100 BTM . Thank you Ruth.

What a pretty song. Still working on taking you beginning songs on metronome at 60 bpm before I go up to 70. Also I am going to work on The Beatles Let It Be and see I’d I can pull it together on my own. Ruth, your lesson for beginner is excellent.

Glad I found your channel. Enjoyed your intro to uke. I started on a 26" uke last week. I have been looking for good videos on learning. I am struggling with strumming and am trying to learn chords. Also, I am challenging myself to learn to play chords with only 2 fingers on my left hand (the reason is in my user name and those who know, know 😂) Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning more from you.

The chord chart is in lesson 1 description box, have a look there is that is what you mean, it shows which finger to use on the frets

Great!, go slow, learn fast. the ukulele is easy only compared to harder instruments like violin, it takes a lot of skill and repetition to learn so good for you for persevering, its well worth it. Moving your fret hand fingers between chord shapes over and over is a good thing to do, you don't need to strum, just keep moving your fret hand fingers to the shapes.
I like the old time gospel hymns like a amazing Gracel The Old Rugged crossi Blessed assurance, and many more But I don't feel ready for anything difficult. I do practice 15 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times a day, because I have all day I am seriously wanting to learn
@@annaloveless4107 Perfect, good for you! I don't know Rugged Cross (I will look it up) but Amazing Grace uses only three chords. So if you play it in the key of C, it uses C, F and G or G7. I think I have a chart for it and will try to post that next lesson.
Thank you for your lesson I am 77 yrs just learning to play an instrument. The ukulele II bought is a soprano Ukulele. I wish to learn hymns. I have tried a little from other ukulele teachers on RUclips but I am trouble following the fingering.
I like hymns as well, my groups play Swing low Sweet Chariot, When the Saints go Marching in, I'll Fly Away, Down to the River to Pray. I will do a video with these soon and if there is a hymn you would like I can consider doing it if it suits the Lessons as they progress.
