When I was in junior high in 1952 (7th grade) we had 6 2:23 weeks to learn several dances like Virginia Reel, polka etc. then we had a dance party - boys on one side of the gym girls on the other. No one wanted to dance. Unfortunatly swing dancing wasn't taught. Perhaps if we had been taught swing we would have danced that day. Swing is awesome.

I miss dancing when the two people actually danced together.

This was the music my parents danced to during WW2 (dad was 20, mom was 18; dad joined the Navy, mom joined the Marines). Every now and then, they'd dance jitterbug in the living room for us. They were quite good, as I remember. Not the same level as these two fine folks, but good, nevertheless. Brings back fond memories.

Not exactly the jitterbug but you gave it your best shot! The real deal wasn't so regimented or choregraphed. It was a fun spontaneous dance back then. It was a lot more relaxed.

My father, dancing with his sister, was named the “King of Swing” for the Northeast in 1938. He and his sister would travel from Philly to dance contests in Jersey and New York from the time he was fifteen. He taught me to jitterbug when I was six.
