🎵🎵🎵🎵🎭🎼 Cool
Quite a production! I was at first hesitant, because often video transfers of this age are hard to watch, but the quality was very good. What a great production. Large cast size rivaling the original Broadway production which had over 50 performers. The choreographer had a way with crowd control and all of the performance sparkled.
Thank you for this wonderful post, and the chassis number of the Phantom VI, which my records also show as being a Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd demonstrator, delivered in February 1980. Bravo.
When I found it amongst my Dad's old video's I thought it was important to at least have it saved somewhere. I remember recording it using my Dad's old JVC Video Movie camera and I thought it was lost to time. So it was brilliant to find it still existed.
What year is this production from?
I think it was 1986. The recording I have is not dated, but doing a google search for it I see an article in the Belper News that mentions being performed... Hello Dolly Rolls-Royce Amateur Operatic Society is to present “Hello Dolly’ at Derby Playhouse from July 14. 19. David Court will again be musical director and Rosalyn Roberts the choreographer. @@NeilWorton Thank you!!!
Blankety Blank Really scored the Big One with Noel Gordon, Danny La Rue & Kenny Everett on the panel!
So Malcolm who won it is my Dad. I was in the audience with my Mum (I was 11). Winning this prize is what got me started on a my career path into computers.
An ambitious production, well presented with generous costumes and values. Cannot find much information on the history of this Society, presumably it ceased operation in the 1990s or slightly later, all ways regrettable.
The company was associated with the Rolls Royce in Derby (aero engine division) via their social society (like the football/cricket/ruby clubs). The shows they performed were put on for a week at Derby playhouse each year. They had large budgets, but they had to make profit to survive (RR did not foot the bill). Anyway the society closed, I think it was in the early 2000's, they just weren't getting the audiences. This show was one that was re-vamped and had some new musics and lyrics written by a pair of gentlemen (Phil and Andrew) who were known to the company. I must admit I have never seen it performed since. Hope this info is of help.
