Journaling, planning, crafting!
Well, time for a new planner.
Keep your planners out of the kitchen!! I had an incident today, and dropped my planner into a sink of soapy water. So, it's time to start a new one. Until then, I will hold a moment of silence for this planner that served me well for about two months. 😭

Plan with me in my A5 Exceed brand planner bullet journal

Plan with me for the first week of October! I’m trying to stay a little bit ahead in my planner right now because I’m taking a class and I tend to fall behind when it comes to planning when I have other things on my plate! So, I’ve planned the week after next, and I’ll show you what next week’s weekly spread looks like as well. The stickers I have used this week are from several Etsy stick make...

Flip through A5 Exceed journal planner, I moved into from my composition book planner/bullet journal

I moved from my composition book planner into an Exceed A5 sized planning journal. I got it from Walmart for less than nine dollars. I’m not sure how much they cost now but probably not much more than that. I was tempted to move into a Moleskine brand extended XL size journal, but after a little more thought, I decided on the Exceed brand journal. I really like the Exceed brand journals for the...

Here’s a flip through of an old journal from 2019, where I use a composition book as a planner. It is a Unison brand graph lined book from Target that I get during August back to school sales. I tend to use these books for about six months before I move to another either brand or style of book so this will be June through December. Trigger warning: This book does have mention of cancer. Here's another flip through of an old journal from 2017 and it goes from January to June. This was before I started using weekly sticker kits so any stickers you see at this point in time I have no idea where I got them from! I would imagine some of them are from Happy planner books and just stickers that I found in stores. Trigger warning: I do mention cancer treatments in this video.

Oh my! Im so sorry.
HELLO- just came across your video - 11 months later - love the idea- ive been wanting to switchover to a composition notebook, thank you for sharing
@@pattydunbar490 I had switched to a smaller notebook about two months ago, but I'm going back to a comp book soon. I miss it! Stay tuned for a new video where I set up the new one!
I am glad I came across your channel. 😊
@@catlilyscraftykorner Glad to have you here!
Hello from Fairview Heights IL. I am thinking about making me diy planner for next year.
🎉🎉yeah
❤
Went to my local Walmart for these deals. If color is not a factor - you can buy several at a great clearance rate. I believe Walmart may not carry this brand 2025.
@@Vonnij That’s very possible that they might not continue it. But that’s too bad, the paper is great!
I love how Ur spreads look!Simple, beautiful and encouraging 🥇🥰
@@coco_blade Thank you so much! 😁
This is really neatly organized and makes a lot of sense to take a composition notebook and upcycle it fit your needs better.
@@misugrrl I have always felt like a preprinted planner was just not for me. This is way bigger and has way more room!
My Dollar Tree had some of the calendars in this size with the monthly you showed at the end just recently.
@@agirlandher5boys947 nice! I’ll have to look! Undated ones would be amazing!
Thanks for sharing and I especially loved the visit from the kitty!

I bought the A5 Dotted Navy one for $4.50 today! The black medium one was $5.50. I can't remember what the Burgundy one was, because I didn't buy one, but the prices are reduced again! I bought transparent sticky notes for $0.50 and the nice Five Star Composition Books for $0.50 each. I got the Five Star spiral notebooks with pockets for $2.00 each.
@@NancysFanciesDesign Love clearance!
@@Gillyweedsfun Moleskine Diary has been on sale on Amazon, too, but those have to be redated.
I don't see a lot of videos with people using these notebooks. I used the large one last year and the smaller one this year. I think they work great.
@@veronicagonzales1755 I love the paper! I have also used the larger ones, and they are really nice.
😍
I also consider the actual weight of the planner. I usually avoid hard covers for that reason.
@@sandral778 The Moleskine is the heaviest, but the Exceed is not much lighter. That is a good thing to think about for sure!
Composition:)❤
I really enjoy my composition book because I love to decorate mine with a lot of stickers, journaling and I like to add photos to mine of certain events or things hubby & I do. Our kids are grown and I'm a homemaker, but I always find stuff to fill the pages. The moleskin planner looks really nice though. I think it would probably be way too small for me. It's always harder for me to write that small, too.
@@angelaconstanty I do like to decorate, but sometimes it feels like a chore! I'm still trying to decide.
Your composition books are great and I love them but U should choose yourself.I moved from planner to planner and I still do it :/ Moleskine for me is too narrow, too small.
I am now an empty nester, way less to 'plan', but I just went crazy with comp oops from BTS sales😮
Gosh I love all three. I use a Moleskine pocket daily for my daily journal/ planner and a composition for work.
@@rachelqcreates I want to use my composition book for journaling and the Moleskine for my daily planner, and the Exceed for a health journal. I really need to get back to some kind of self care, so journaling is part of that, but I don’t like carrying personal feelings and potentially embarrassing health information around in my planner. This way I get to use all three!
Creativity, functional, Space, Cover,
@@helenbonanno4804 I like the creativity of the composition book, they are all functional, and the comp book for sure has more space, but it’s also bigger to carry around all the time. Ugh, I like them all!

Thank you so much for sharing!! Planners make me nervous and they're pretty expensive. I love that you shared how you break everything down I'm so glad I found you!!
@@emelhineromero3036 Planners are sooo expensive, or they can be. But when you use something multiple times a day every day for a year, you want one that works for you. Sometimes that can be worth the money! In my case, I just prefer the notebook, so I lucked out!
Perfect timing... Target has them on sale for 50 cents for back to school. Ill definitely pick the brand up for my stash❤❤❤

@@1naturaljourney971 Thank you so much!
I paused the video to make a suggestion about switching planners: for future composition book planners, you can take them to Staples or other office supply store and have them cut them down to A5, or whatever size you need. I had one cut down to 9”x6 1/2”, rounded the corners myself with a corner rounder punch, and covered with clear contact paper. Very portable. FYI I tried to buy these specific notebooks yesterday at the cheap 50 cent back-to school price at 2 different local Targets that listed them as “in stock”, only to learn they were sold out. They’re very popular. And they were listed as “in store” only, so not available for purchase on their website OR for pickup. 😡 They’re still available on Amazon at $2.99 each though.
@@calisongbird nice! I haven’t looked for them on Amazon to be honest since I get them at Target! I have cut them down before, but I like the space of the larger size.
@@Gillyweedsfunright, I only mentioned it because you said you were tempted by your more portable Exceed planner, but hesitant to make a mistake in it because it’s more expensive. Cutting the comp book would give you the best of both worlds. 🙂 But I get that the larger size is good for more writing space.
@@calisongbird I have used a cut down comp book for my travel journal. That works well for me! But for a daily situation, I prefer the bound notebook for that size.
Luckily you only lost your power. Love your layout. What Grid Composition Notebook are you using? Thanks!
@@IvyPlans Thank you! My notebook is a Unison Brand composition book I get from Target every year. I don’t think they sell online, and I have only ever seen them during the back to school season. I stock up and usually buy 4 or 5 then because they are only fifty cents!
@IvyPlans, see my comment about availability.
I’ve been using composition books for several years now too! It’s fun to see your layouts, what we do the same, and what we do differently. Your pages make me think I should give stickers a try, instead of just adding my own doodles and lettering. 😊 One thing I do is glue the edge of each two pages together so I don’t have to worry about ghosting or blead-through. Thanks for sharing your process!
@@hollypk thanks! I can’t draw or do cute lettering, so I fall back on stickers! They are definitely easy!

@@coco_blade thank you!
I like the way the composition books looks as a BUJO but I hate the bleed through I get. Since nothing I do is earth shattering I will live with it. Probably will do the, grid paper again in 2025 but in a disc bound notebook because of the thicker paper.

@@Healthycook0001 I am an actually in Nebraska, but we go to KC every few years.
I did not know composition books came in grid. I really like that.
@@nanomeow there are several brands that offer grids, but not usually found in non office supply type stores.
Office Depot and Staples sell grid, but they’re typically the larger 4x4 quadrille. The smaller 5x5 grid you’re using are harder to find. I’m glad you gave the brand name - I found it on Amazon. Target doesn’t carry it anymore, sadly. Also, Asian stationery outlets sell tons of grid notebooks in all kinds of grid sizes, even teeny tiny. Grid is very popular in Asian countries.
@@calisongbird I have found a lot of grid notebooks online! I just prefer to feel them and see them in person before I buy. I did get some new Unison grid-lined notebooks just a few weeks ago at my local Target, just like the ones I usually get. I also found them on their website. I do like to get grid-lined loose leaf for my mini binders, as well that I use for budgeting online, usually from Wish.
Love your videos! There aren’t many channels that show actual planning in a composition notebook. Do you glue 2 pages together?
@@Mira_C9102 I prefer not to glue any pages together because I don’t like the feel of that, but I have used washi tape to adhere the pages together to add bulk to a page if need it. Mostly, I like have all the pages (200!) to fill for the year.

ahh I’m so happy to see a new video!! Gonna watch this one over and over again like all your other videos 😂
Thank you for making these videos. You've inspired me to make my own planner, as well. I had never even thought about using a graph paper composition book before. I had to order my Unison one off from Amazon because we don't have a Target here, nor does anywhere else around here sell that brand. I've gone back and forth with Happy Planner for years but was never satisfied with it. I've also tried a ton of other types of planners, as well, with the same results. I'm absolutely loving my composition book planner, I must say. It's so versatile and lets me be as creative as I'd like. Plus, I'm able to track more and brain dump ideas. It's opened up a whole new world of planning to me. Thank you for inspiring me. I love all your videos!
@@angelaconstanty thank you so much! I know when I was trying to figure out which planner to use. I went back-and-forth between several different kinds, but I always came back to this type of planner because I needed a place to make lists of just random things but yet still keep the lists in the same place as my planner so I always had everything together. Unfortunately, most planners that are premade just don’t have enough space. I’m so glad that you were able to find something that works for you! I had a hard time finding anyone on RUclips except just a few people that actually use a daily planner that is a composition book. So I decided to just make some videos myself and see if anyone else was interested. I’m so glad you guys are liking my videos!
@@GillyweedsfunI have a whole folder of saved videos of people using composition books as planners - there are quite a few. Yours are among my favorites though. @PlanWithApril has a ton, and she also has some that she cut down to A5 size and put in a clear plastic Hobonichi cover. I’ve cut down some also to 9”x6”, but I just cover with clear contact paper (or shipping tape, in a pinch).
@angelaconstanty, Target does not seem to carry this brand anymore anyway, I checked. I ordered off Amazon also.
