Hospice Patient Builds a Log Cabin with the Macy Catheter in Place | Testimonial
Joy Orr, RN-Administrator and Hospice Nurse at Ancora Home Health and Hospice in Wasilla, Alaska-tells the heartwarming story of how the Macy Catheter helped Steven, one of her favorite patients, live a full life during his time on hospice care. By keeping the Macy Catheter in place, Steven was able to resume the activities that mattered most to him, including building a log cabin for one of his friends, fishing for trout, and building hobby horses for foster children.
"I see so many nurses saying that they would never offer the Macy Catheter to their patient because they feel like it's indignant. I get so upset because they don't have a Steven and they don't know what a difference it can...

I am a retired RN, very comfortable with navigating the health care system and advocating for patients/family. I haven’t found a good hospice agency, honestly. It’s horrible. I’m going to get out, and focus on wound care. I’ve been thrown out there every single time. Most of the nurses have quit at the agency I’ve started with, and I started in early Nov ‘23, and it’s now Jan ‘24. Education is next to nill.

    I am an RN who works in the disease care system. I am drawn to this work, just wondering if there's value in being able to do both the medical and death doula roles. I would have to work under a doctor if I do anything medical, correct? Having my own practice and focusing more on the spiritual and less medical does appeal to me.

    • @HospiCorporation
      @HospiCorporation Год назад

      We are sure there would be a lot of value in doing both medical and death doula roles. A recent NPHI survey found that less than 20% of patients have discussed their end-of-life wishes with their physicians. There is room for improvement here. Here's a link to that survey's results in case you're interested: www.hospiceinnovations.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/NPHI-Survey-Views-and-Experiences-of-Aging-End-of-Life-Care-in-the-US.pdf To answer your question- as an RN you likely would have to work under a doctor if you are doing anything medical; you are correct. Thank you for your response!

      My Dad had a horrible death - drawn out, painful and humiliating, and he had frightening delirious dreams that he couldn't tell from reality. And then one night he suddenly sat up and was completely ok, and hugged everyone and told them he loved them, and then gently died. I was miles away and I had a vision of him, decrepit at first but laughing with pure joy and relief, and as I looked at him he got younger and younger, all though all the ages I'd ever seen him be, then still younger until I saw him as a gangly youth! It was one of the best things I've ever seen.

      Hi! 1.) The topic of the video is not “All aspects of End-of-Life”, but “End-of-Life Dreams and Visions”, known also as ELE, End-of-Life Experiences. Researchers concluded that ELE have a comforting, nurturing role, preparing the dying person for a fearless transitioning. 2.) At 17:17: “There is an editing process in these end-of-life experiences…” Only people who loved us reappear. Therefore, the very nature of the end-of-life visions is to filter out bad memories, negative people or events, letting “in” only the best, only the loving ones. Isn’t it an amazing gift from our Creator? All the best to you, thank you for sharing!

I'm a nurse and my dream is to open a Hospice House (something we don't have in my area) and I am unable to do it because Medicare only pays $150/day for hospice and there is no way that is sustainable for anyone unfortunately! It breaks my heart because people around here don't have options
