to say it is better than we got is a little over zealous considering all we had from the beta is some blocky ugly maps from 2001 and concept art that could have likely never properly transitioned into full 3d

To be honest I still like the retail better and I think it is more unique. Don't get me wrong, the original concept looks sick as hell but it doesn't get under my skin like the final city 17 and the tone and the atmosphere is something you would expect in another game series instead of Half-Life. It's literally just George Orwell's 1984 and it comes off cartoonish. The retail has the right balance, it isn't trying to take itself too seriously and it manages to instill a similar feeling of hopelessness, oppression and loneliness while being way subtler and more grounded about it. It also helps set it apart from similar stories, making it way more memorable.
My dream is that Valve made HL2 episode 3 today inspired in this beta

Honestly, I love what the release gave us. But I also want a peace of what Beta had to offer. Glad to say we are nearing an accurate recreation of the Beta storyline/game.

Does anyone know what was that HL2 Beta fanart from at 0:18?
I believe that was one of the first concept designs for Nova Prospekt - The Gulag.
I have seen that image a couple of times in this kind of beta videos and it always caught my attention. From what I have gathered, it is a painting by Viktor Antonov, the art director of HL2, however it was not made for the game but privately. It seems to be part of a series of paintings titled "Vulkanbros" which depicts the essence of the french circus or something like that.
half life 2 beta and epistle 3 together being a parallel universe to the main storyline is my headcannon
There is a level of beauty and horror to the HL2 beta concepts that I haven't see much anywhere else. The music just makes it better.

It was indeed - I had to kerfuffle the title a bit to mess with the algorithm when I posted this back in August of '22, thankfully, the Coypright Gestapo have not struck it down (yet)!
I love half life 2, i even consider it the best videogame in History the way it already is, but the beta has "that" that i just like even more than the base game. I don't know if it's the dystopic post-apocalyptic world that's built in the beta, the "1984" vibe, the enemies that aren't on the base game, everything as a whole, or what. Yet knowing, that the concept shown, never launched officially, and it probably won't, makes me feel that something's missing, feels like A Phantom Pain

The edit, the art concepts, the timing with those sfx and lyrics, they are perfect. Really need a long version of this.
There is always a chance for a Part II. Just contemplating how to perform it.

Valve has so much money, why won't they make a separate timeline set in HL2 beta and pour all the effort into art, aesthetics and atmosphere... They're just a dog in the manger. And how they treat TF2 is despicable...

Half life 2 off the record with beta asthetics, no TF2 microtransaction, no CS2 loot boxes, no DeadLock, no Half Life games on VR only and that would regain my trust and love for Valve.

Hello there! I decided to release this video In late August 2022 after the original owner kept getting copyright striked. I tracked them down, politely asked to let me try and upload it on my channel (This is the only video I have ever uploaded on my channel) and give it a shot using (In my honest opinion) a bullet-proof defense for fan use of the original owner's music and the original owner's trademarked video game materials seen in this video, then I set it to no-comments and forgot I uploaded it the next day. I logged into my youtube videos about a week ago and suddenly remembered I did this, and was shocked to see the video is not only still alive, but thriving. So, decided to allow comments. :+)
