Top 5 Fountain Pen Gift Ideas (Overview)
Fountains pens
The safe choice is always twsbi or pilot for low price good quality pens. If you are in the market for a pen for yourself or a loved one. then my recommendation for pens would be the twsbi eco, they have plenty of colors and nib options.
The second pen option would have to be the pilot metro, same deal plenty of options and colors. plus, pilot is a well-known and respected brand you can't go wrong
Paper.
Now we all are very partial to the type or brand of paper we use.
If you or someone you know is a ball point pen user, then you cannot go wrong with the Moleskine line of journals. but in my experience, they do not hold up well for fountain pen inks

Wow the box alone is so nicely designed. I only own 3 full size ink bottles, seriously thinking about getting an alchemy ink bottle just to look pretty on my desk at work.
Grab them while you can because some of them sell out pretty quick.
Nice! Can’t wait for the ink swatch!
what size nib do you have on this TWSBI
@@impish22 the one in this video is a medium nib.
I love my TWSBI eco pens for sure !!
Does the "glow" pen maintain its ability to glow in the dark?
@@lizpilgrim1 yes it does. I’ve only had the pen about a year. And it still glows very bright. I’ve always had to let it soak up sunlight but I think that’s just how it works normally.
I have a couple TWSBIs coming from Goulet Pens. I cant wait!
Should be great. What ink you plan on you using
First of all I want to say it’s nice to see a brother in the fountain pen community. Secondly, I really enjoyed your video . I share a lot of the same sentiments especially Diamine inks. They have performed so reliably for me. Third of all , your transparency about the commissions was pretty admirable. I can’t think of many people who would bother doing that. While I am pretty informed about fountain pens, I really Appreciate everything you had to say in this video
@@Marshallmallowlol 1. Thank you 2. Thank you again. I’m very much a diamine fan. Kinda sticking with what works best because I write a lot and don’t have time to mess around. 3. Again. Thank you. I know people don’t really talk about it. But I felt that it’s important to say it even though it’s common knowledge I don’t want to make it a habit of not being straight up with the people who come across my videos.
I bought the CH 92 from Amazon and couple months ago, it's a lovely writer and is now my go-to pen!
@@bethg7026 I love it. I find myself grabbing that pen more than any other pen.
You have a fine son, enjoy the pen.
Thanks you
You have a very special son, he did a great job for your birthday.
Thank you.
When I've bought presents for my father, I have given it much thought and to me, giving him a gift is like giving a gift to myself. It warms my heart to warm his.
This came at the perfect time! I have a few friends who have been needing nice pens (and I need to stock up hehe). Thanks so much for the recommendations!!! 🤩
@@sonicsgirlfriend I’m happy to see that my video is serving its purpose.
I accumulated many high end, expensive watches, THEN I found the fountain pen rabbit hole. I told myself I wasn't going to go overboard on pens, and so far I have not. Before finding the fountain pen rabbit hole I had 4 Montblancs, none of which are a fountain pen.. My current fountain pens are all under $200, but one expensive pen is on the list, maybe a Montblanc, or something else, haven't decided yet. I will keep the pen purchaes to a minimum. For inks I really only use blue, grey and green, not into the bright, trendy colors, or the shimmer inks. Mostly inks for business use.
@@thomasmorrison675 I quickly fell down the rabbit hole. But somewhere along the lines I realized I didn’t want all the trendy colors because changing ink is a hassle. Then I found dip pens
I love custom nib grinds, I own mostly steel nib pens, but I have gold nibs custom ground as well.. the steel nib pens feel as good as the gold nibs, each is a bit different.. and I enjoy both. Metals and alloys have come a long way now. F1 racing!
@@Sonicman415 I want to get into custom grinds as well. I have no clue where to start.
Cool vid
Thank you.
Happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊
@@charolettebeard3657 thank you.
LoL , WTF
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your gift! Have a blessed day!
Thank you.
I have used Dryden Fountain Pens for years. Your son has wonderful taste! You are now officially a gentleman!
lol thanks.
let's take an example to illustrate my point: if I were working as a record keeper who needed to use my extra fine point fp to record figures in tiny boxes for hours each day, then the steel nib would be a no-brainer. For letter writing, signatures, journaling, etc. the solid gold nib tipped with iridium offers all of the "joys" of using a fountain pen...
Gold nibs are often prized for their flexibility, softer feel, and luxurious appeal, making them a favorite for those seeking a more refined writing experience, though they come at a higher cost. Steel nibs, by contrast, are durable, affordable, and provide a firm, consistent feel that’s perfect for everyday writing or beginners. While gold offers a touch of prestige and smoothness, modern steel nibs can rival them in performance, proving that the “better” choice depends on your budget, writing style, and personal preference.
Fountain pen nibs are so different. I prefer gold nibs, but I have a few pens from Diplomat, Benu, Graf von Faber-Castell, and other brands where the steel ni is better than a few of my gold nibs from other brands. I personally don't think there is a need to buy a gold nib to get a good writing experience, but my favourite nibs are all gold nibs: Pelikan m1005, S.t. Dupont, SCRIBO... No matter what the nib is made of, it's fun to explore different pens :)
@@AudTalksPens I 100 percent agree. Idk if you can tell but as I was writing I had that realization that the nib doesn’t matter for experience. But I think the shape of the nib makes the most difference. But it’s all personal preference.
@@TristianWrites I did! And I agree that the shape is very important. I do think that the material has some importance, but not as much as we are lead to believe. I have started exploring titanium nibs, and they feel different to me than gold and steel. Still, the differences between different nibs made from the same material is sometimes much larger that between nibs made of different materials.
Gold was used way back when before there was stainless steel. Gold does not rust. . . .it wasn't expensive . . even coins were made of gold. No gold touches the paper and flex and softness comes from geometry of a nib and not stainless vs gold. But a gold pen is like having a real diamond ring vs a fake one. Do you want a pen to be pocket jewelry, a practical tool, or both? Whatever you choose, there is a pen for you.
Gold vs steel doesn't mean much these days, gold nibs are generally softer and broader (although not always, some like Lamy and Sailor are pretty stiff too) but they are, for the most part, the same as steel nibs, the brand is ultimately what makes a difference, my Pelikan M200 for example feels a lot more smooth than my Lamy 2000, it ultimately comes down to personal preference like you said.
@@paulll47 exactly. I had that revelation while recording this video.
Ima stick with my mechanical pencil
@@emu_x3 I have a Japanese mechanical pencil that rotates the lead as you write.
@@TristianWrites you doin to much to write 😭
If you like those go with a gel ink pen Japanese style .35.
Perfect fill!
How do you farm for the better weapons
I Absolutely Love Midori Notebooks.......I've been using them for years, I keep my notebooks in the plastic sleeve that you can purchase for them. The sleeve can also help with the no pocket situation, because it has enough of an overhang inside of the cover that I normally tuck things in both the front and the back. Also, the ribbon color normally determines the style of notebook you have A5 plain ribbons are yellow A5 lined is blue, A5 Grid is white, A4 plain maroon etc. I hope this helps. I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing
I like the size of your set, 2 Glass Pens and 12 bottles of ink is pretty cool!
Very cool and the price is tight
FYI - they do make Diamine Oxford Blue in an 80ml bottle for about $17.00! That’s a-lot of ink for that price you can pick up a few bottles. I feel the same about DeAtramentis Jane Austen! We all have our favorites! Enjoy! God bless you!
I love the color. I have a big bottle of It. But I think I’m going to grab 2 more just to have a stash.
An amazing pen! I have the M nib and it’s truly enjoyable.
I like the FM version. It has the right amount of scratch and I’m glad I saw it on Amazon because on other sites it’s expensive.
7 bucks on Amazon for blue and black.
H
I was planning to get the Rhodiarama or Rhodia webnotebook for my next journal but man those are so expensive here. (Like 2x the price compared to jetpens) so ill just stick to these since i dont have to over pay. And these are great notebooks as well. I just wish i didnt have to buy a cover for the cover separately but whatever lol
I do like my Midori note book. I have the a6 size and use it for ink swatching. I particularly like the smooth texture of the paper and i find the cream color to be better for my eyes. Thanks for the review.
Same i love the cream colored paper, it doesnt blast my eyes
Aye man i hope everything turns out okay.
Oh it did i came out better with a better job
So happy you landed a better job. I did too! Actually alot less pay - BUT - alot less stress. At 5:00 I leave the job behind. I sleep at night, bills are getting paid. Trying to figure out my tithes (I know - they should be first). So, keep moving forward. The painting is beautiful! I want to see more! Do you sell them? A studio sounds perfect! Now - I miss pen videos….get back to work! 😂. Take care and God bless you!
@carolyncoppola974 I would sell it, it is very sentimental to me though. But I’d let it go. I want a studio because I need to create separation to be more creative. But I’m getting back to pen content.
Im about to finish my first journal and i regret not doing this sooner lol. Before i started writing my days down my handwriting was soo bad and now its actually readable. As well as it getting me into fountain pens and just being able to read what happened like 2 months ago is awesome. I dont think ill ever do buller journaling mainly cause of the reasons you stated. Great video and i hope you have a good day.
Great choice of a notebook. I’m currently using one as a sketchbook. For the money, they are great quality.
I love it.
When do you typically wash/clean your pens?
I don’t typically clean my pens. I don’t see the need to do so. Especially since I don’t swap ink colors often if ever.
@@TristianWrites I see. I do the same lol. I only clean my pens every 3rd or 4th refill
Nice!
Where do you purchase notebooks? I was pleasantly surprised to discover Barnes and Noble carry Stology and several other upscale notebooks
This particular one came from Amazon Japan But jetpens.com is my go to site.
Ive had my eye on the Galen Leather notebooks.
It’s nice. I like it. It grew on me.
Hows the see through on the other side? Especially for pens/pencils? Just asking since im just getting into the hobby and i use Midori MD or my pocketnotes which are both fairly thick.
Does it open flat like a Midori MD?
It does. It’s has about 400 pages
@@TristianWrites wow that's amazing I might need to check one out when I fill up my journal
@Unlucky1776 it’s really good. If you watch the related video. I didn’t like it at first. The paper is super thing. It’s 52 gsm. And it felt weird to me. But once I got the pilot pen I gave it another shot and I love it.
@@TristianWrites yea I'll check it out. 52 GSM is kinda crazy but hey tha means more pages I guess haha.
@@TristianWrites oh I was gonna ask if you planned to buy a rhodia notebook but it seems you already have a review
What a perfect fill! Beautiful ink! Thanks for sharing!
I love all of the green colors of the eco! I even like the glow in the dark (it kinda looks like what id think plutonium would look like glowing and all)
I love the green glow. My daughter has the purple pen that glows blue. I love it.
Planning to buy my first diamine ink bottle some time this month (marine since it looks great) and as well as a jinhao pen to try out! Cant wait
I never had good luck with jinhao pens.
Yah! 😂🎉
Very beautiful pen!
Thank you very much!
