The people of Appalachia were predominantly descended from the Scots/Irish who brought their music and dance with them to the mountains when they settled there. Many came from Ulster. So this form of dancing is inherently interwined with clog dancing...which is also fantastic of course. (Video title may be a bit misleading though its fair to say)

Thank you John for your comment. Incidentally, a lot of the old "Rock N Roll or Rockabilly comes from the same source. Scots Irish who settled in the South Eastern US.

their flimsy acrylic dresses are terrible - they should be wearing proper dresses, embroidered with Gaelic patterns and with hard panels that show their movements..

lol Just need lessons, anyone can learn. :) I actually am an Irish Dance teacher, I have a video on my channel of my little beginners doing soft shoe/light shoe. It's what you start with before you move to hard shoe, but also depends on the type of dance/music "wont go into detail" they are doing hard shoe in this video.

It's not it's Irish Dance or "Irish Step Dancing", which clogging comes from originally.

Thats not weird, lol their are a lot of male Irish Dancers and Dancers in general google Michael Flatley.
