Kislev | Beginner Builds
A Series on beginner build in Total War: Warhammer 3. In this series we will cover one faction at a time and talk about how you can build for this faction. We will aim to create together one build that is good against a lot of different factions, and that should be manageable for a beginner to use to help you win against other beginners/intermediate players. These builds can then be later modified as you learn more about the game and the faction.

There's no audio 😢
what about slayer pirates ROR?
I personally am a fan of it, but it's a little tricky to get good value out of it now. Because the guns are short range and kind of low dps, and the buff is much less then it was
Do have suggestion for shutting down enemy's artillery in the backline as a Lizardmen?
Yes! Probably the best strategy if your opponent has a lot of artillery is building up and attacking them everywhere at once with all of your Kroxigors and your cold ones. If they spent a lot of money on artillery they'll have a hard time defending everything.
Hi HitmanHippo, Could you maybe go a bit into which matchups a faction is good or bad against for the 3x3 pick and ban system or what a faction does really well or not? Love the videos, very helpful!
Yes! this topic might be worth doing a whole video on, but generally you just pick the factions you're the most comfortable with or the ones you think can win the most match ups. Thanks for the question!
I've been using a similar version of this for a while now. My friend, whose learning has been trying to beat it, but even im unsure how. How would you go about countering this?
That's great! Yeah I think it depends on the factions but either 1) you run away from it and fight where the shredder isn't or 2) try to kill it with arty or high dps missiles. Sometimes you can bring like 3x strong single entities to beat it but that's pretty risky
My favorite faction! Perfect. I've been running Bears shredder build in a bunch of matches. I'm also a big fan of adding a build without DLC for friends just picking up the game
Are artillery worth using with empire?
Yes! Cannons are good in a lot of match ups, hellblasters sometimes make sense, and Sunmaker is still one of the best arty units. Takes some practice though protecting them, so in Dom I don't recommend beginners using them until they're a bit more comfortable with micro.
@ I see, for beginner players, what sort of army would you recommend? The one ya show or another one? Trying to learn empire as my first army to bring into multiplayer which brings me to my second question, any good servers to find games?
@@TheHeretic0099 The army that I show is a good one to start with! And as for servers, you can shoot me a message on discord and I can give you one to the RAT clan, and I can help you get to the Turin discord too
@@HitmanHippowhat’s your discord?
@@TheHeretic0099 It's just "hitmanhippo"!
Awesome. Trying this against a friend who is playing Ogre kingdoms for the first time. Doin the lords work here friend :D
Good luck and let me know how it goes!
@HitmanHippo He uh... had a real tough time with the Natty Buboes 😅😂
@@NobletheKnight Haha good to hear it!
Dude, yes! This is exactly the content for the TWW3 multitiplayer golden age we need!
Any chance of doing some Dark Elves or Lizardmen soon as well? Awesome and well needed content, thanks!
Yes Lizardmen will be soon! Dark Elves probably a little later, but I'll put it in the cards!
Awesome stuff, commenting on each for the algorhithm. Maybe sharing what the factions you introduce are strong or weak to could be helpful? Thanks!
Thanks for the comments! I'll probably do a "beginner tier list" after this series for how tricky they are to play.
Id think there would be more missile infantry, although ive never played dwarves 😅
It's a delicate balance, if you bring too many missiles, you have to defend them, and it gets exponentially harder the more you bring!
Dude, Thanks so much for doing this series! I'm getting back into domination mode and this is perfect.
audio is very good 😃
great job putting these together.
love those - as a side effect getting insight on factions that I never played to be able to play against them more effective aswell
Good guide, but there's that strange noise in the background, most likely it's your fans running on max settings if you could turn it down for the sake of recording. Sadly the other guide has the same issue.
The struggles with sounds continue! It's my computer running in the background (and struggling to function ha), and my mic isn't doing the best job picking me up for some reason. I'll keep working on it to find a better balance!
can do slaanesh if you want :D
I'll do Slaanesh!
Some might say that this video is too….short
I like how you mention the faction banner. Choosing a banner that’s similar to your opponent’s is a super important step that most beginners overlook
Definitely, nothing better than making Turin say "oh they picked the same faction colors" haha
Thanks again for streaming this Hippo! Always nice to watch and gather ideas. Too bad in the end both of us ended up losing to the same old Dwarf gyrocopters lol
And very gg to you too! Our game was fun and you played it well. Yeah the gyros are annoying for sure, but I could have done a better job prepping for them

Recognized your name off Turin Videos good luck on yt!
Uhh, my point control in mid game really was kinda lacking ... could have grabbed some of them much earlier. Also: Armies assuming highly tactical positions and the Hippo solving maze puzzels outside of the map. Should have brought some crayons xDDD We both will get better at hype casting eventually. Probably. Maybe. It isn't even that important :eyes:
Mazes >> Warhammer tactics I suppose :D. But yeah somehow most of the engages happened off the points for you. I think it doesn't help the points are circles and very hard to see.
Based commentary from the Hippo man
Not even 10 vids up and already THIS type of content? xD
XD well I do stand by the title! Or if you mean the patch notes in general it's because I was asked to do it!
I've watched three patch notes reviews on this today, and this was by far the best. I like how at the end of each faction's notes, you speculate how that faction will move in the meta. Keep it up!
"Dead Saurian" Very Freudian Slip of you xD
Reject Saytang. Embrace cannon.
Man you sound tired in this one x)
I was indeed, very astute observation 😅
I have quite a different take on the strategy of the first game. You mentioned mutliple times through mid game, that WoC should start summoning infantry, but I would say that is the worst you could do in this situation. I even would go so far, that the summoned halberds were the deciding factor of losing the game for WoC via psychological trap. Once you are that heavily commited into mobility as WoC was in the early game, the game plan from this point on is to cycle charge and rotate away at the first sign of real resistance from the enemy to stretch their forces out and find targets to collapse on. Now if you start putting infantry into the mix, you either can't rotate anymore and have to take grind fights with the opposing infantry with your shock units (bad) or you have to abandon your infantry once you pull out (also bad). I think, that trying to save the halberd unit in the mid point might have been the factor to make the decision to commit to a full fight there, which went super poorly. The halberds just served no purpose here, being summoned into double bloodletters. Any WoC infantry wouldn't want to engage with bloodletters, I think. Infantry would just be playing the game, that your opponent is strongest at. On the other hand, with strong charge units, skirmish cav and a terror beast, the marauders of khorne are so easily routed, they might as well not exist. Unless you summon infantry to fight them, they are utterly pointless. And bloodletters are probably only a bit better due to immunity to terror, but also super weak to high mass charges. So I agree with Via Animae's choice to double down on mobility and would have done it even harder, though I think maybe there was nothing left to summon. A second chaos knight to cycle the marauders and bloodletters would have been the most impactful choice at this moment, I think. Or starting to build up a little swarm of infantry, that is not easily isolated and taken down, even if it means that you summon them and then have them idle for a while. Sidenote: That fury almost winning vs the forsaken geeeeeez
Yeah some really interesting thoughts, I wonder if it is less about the infantry itself and more about the kind of infantry used. For example at that time (11:55) before the crucial engage, a couple of marauders could have been used to hold down the bloodletters, their goal not to trade up but instead to free your mobility murder blob to rearcharge or find a more direct fight with the mino. I think the real problem is the mino with inf support. But I agree that Via managed the no-infantry thing very well into pretty late into the game. Usually I feel like such things fall prey to mindless infantry tactics (like in the one game we once had SL WE on dustbowl), but he makes the rotations look really strong.
One comment on the use of elite infantry like black orks and crimson killaz: The worst case for such units is to be fully kited or be stalled by sth unimportant and shot. So you need some plan to prevent that. I usually try to have the range advantage in such cases to zone out skirmishers or force the opponent to come to me with infantry, so I can pick my engagements. But you could also rule the mobility and make missile deployment (near your elites) super hard with it or swarm the field with so much cheaper infantry, that the enemy can't approach your elites.
Wow. That was a super greedy go for a tripple cap in the first one^^ And then a prime example of sunk cost fallacy throwing more and more value into a bad position to brute force it^^
I really like infantry clashes like in the Khorne vs Empire game with long and steadily shifting, forward and backward moving frontlines, balancing between breaking through and overextending. I find those are the apex fights of requiring micro, strategy and quick decision making. Very different from just feeding things into a blob fight, what happens when units have too much leadership or HP/resistance.
I thought the Khorne - Empire game to be the most interesting one of the series! Also kind of funny that I did a build up against Tim. I guess Tim gave us a masterclass on how to handle those situations xD
@@hitppohiman He didn't have any grenadiers, right? Wonder if that would have made that more decisive or if you would have gotten them before they explode you.
@@NerexaGames Grenadiers could have made sense though perhaps a squishy unit to babysit adds to the overall micro tax. I think the empire knights/knights of the black rose were really crucial to him winning, so maybe they were a better choice. On the other hand, greandiers would have done really well into the bloodletters so hard to say for certain
If you swap a couple knights of the black rose with demi halberds, they can do quite well into cold one knights
Oh true! I totally forgot about the unit!
Nice one! Now do more! xD I can't comment on Deamons and Chaos Dwarfs, but the Empire starting lineup 100% fell into the imperial trend of the recent DLC to lose the game by grossly overinvesting into shooting^^ 5 expensive pieces with 4500 total cost is just too much^^ I think the right call vs bolt throwers would also have been to bring replacement long rifles instead of cannons. They get shot slowly and can be hidden in forest during marching up phase of the game. You noticed their damage (consistent with other jezzail types into elf HP q.q). They don't need too long. I agree with your comment on the dragon, that it wasn't right to try and kill it there. But I find it important to have things on the field that can actually threaten to kill the dragon to prevent it from going completely crazy on your backline, like it did here.
Thanks for your thoughts! I agree the amount of shooting I brought almost lost me the game, especially because housecat was likely to go a larger amount of infantry in the match up. I think because I don't particularly know the match up I was really worried about bolt throwers, but maybe they do damage kind of slowly. I like the idea of just replacing them! Also I debated the long rifle positioning, but had a hard time knowing where to put them. I wanted to make sure I could pressure the two points so he couldn't sit a unit and cap, but it didn't make a lot of sense in the end because of the way he played. As for the dragon, that's an interesting idea, I wonder if a couple of outriders would have been enough at close range or what units on the roster can actually threaten the dragon. Maybe stirling's revenge would have been a good choice too to poke the cold one knights in the endgame
Love the breakdowns of strategy in dom. Subscribed!
