      Hi, Depending on what you currently need when running SDR++... The entire menu can be hidden by clicking the "hamburger" menu button which is the 3 line stacked line button. Also each one of the items in the menu can be shrunk to just the label. The menu with the modulation is listed as Radio. Scroll to find it on the menu then click it and you should see NFM, WFM, AM and more.. Stay Tuned!!

    If all we have is the included di-pole from RTL-SDR, what bands should we be able to listen to without doing your custom antenna build? 2 meter and 70cm seem to work fine for me.

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 12 дней назад

      Thanks for the question... Technically you can listen to a lot with the included antenna... The difference is the signal received might not be received as strong due to the antenna not being ideal for the frequencies tuned. Working backwards from the shortest length to the longest length There are two sets of dipole antennas.. The longer set can be extended between 23 cm - 1 m. This will cover 75 - 326MHz as a quarter wave antenna The bands you can tune are: FM Radio (88-108 MHz) VHF TV (54-88 MHz) 2-meter amateur radio band (144-148 MHz) UHF radio (300 MHz to 1 GHz) Airband (108-137 MHz) The smaller set can be extended between 5 -13cm. This will cover 577 - 1500MHz as a quarter wave antenna You will notice there is a gap between 326 MHz and 577 MHz The bands you can tune are: UHF TV (470-862 MHz) Cellular bands (GSM, LTE, etc.) Satellite communications (L-band, S-band) GPS (1575.42 MHz) Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) (with a down converter) Thanks for the question... I had to go through the exercise of calculating frequencies and looking up the bands.. This is a mission worthy question. THANK YOU!! Stay Tuned!

    what antenna do you use with the SDR Play?

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 13 дней назад

      Thanks for "tuning in". It really depends on what my target signal is and which SDRPlay I am using. The RSP Duo is great because you can use a long wire wire without any other components. This makes that SDR my favorite for listening to low frequencies (HF). I use my RTL-SDR.com SDRs more because they are small and work with many applications with no fuss. I have used the Nooelect large magnetic base antenna with my SDR-Play devices because it is fantastic for lowering the noise floor. There is a link in my description for this antenna. My only gripes with it is I have broken 3 of them.... I wish I could buy JUST the antenna and you must be careful with the sma connector as the crimp may come apart. What things would you like to see here? Stay Tuned TS

  • @jeffjeffjeff
    @jeffjeffjeff 27 дней назад

    Minor nitpick. When you first put a signal up on the display you described raising and lowering the noise floor. "Noise floor" refers to the level of noise received on the absence of signal -- looks like about -80dB. The slider you are adjusting isn't changing the noise floor. It's just changing the axis min and color mapping.

    a suggestion. never coil up your coax. not while it is in use anyway. if you coil up your coax you'll get signal loss across the wire. if you coil the coax around a metal object such as wrapping it around a metal antenna mast it will cause even more problems. has to do with induction and what not. I'm not an electronics instructor so I suggest research into this. thanks for the video.

    Is the Morse code like government secrets and stuff

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 6 месяцев назад

      Not at all Morse code is a way to communicate with sound pulses. It originated as a way to communicate via telegraph, which is a "tapping" device you use with your fingers to produce short and long tones. Telegraphs were at the time connected via wires between places. Morse code (named after one of its creators Samuel Morse) is the name of the code system where each letter of the alphabet has a corresponding series of tones. Short tones are called dots (now called dits) and long tones are called dashes (now called dahs). (its also more fun to say dah dah dit dah dah dah note the space between the two series) The letter A is represented by a short tone then a long tone. Its written notation looks like this using the dashes and dots. A ._ B _... C _._. and so on.. There is one note... The code we use today has been updated from the original encoding method. It is now called International Morse code) You can find the complete code online .. check Wikipedia or checkout RUclips videos. Something EVERYONE should know is how to call for help with Morse code. Using the internationally recognized code for help SOS (Which I have heard several acronyms for what it stands for) Commonly, SOS stands for save our souls.. The is simply the code for letters for S and O and would look like this _ _ _ ... _ _ _ It could save your life if someone saw the letters or heard you tapping in nearby or in the distance. Elmers jump in! oh wait.. I just realized I might be an Elmer... Thats an odd thought...

    Gain slider control appears to be set low by default, ticking the tuner AGC disables the Gain slider, so we do not use the two tick boxes as seems to cause problems so untick the two boxes and use the gain slider manually, appears to give the best results for me.

    • @tunedsignal
      @tunedsignal 6 месяцев назад

      You are correct. I have found that new users just don't see anything so having higher gain allows them to start high and lower from there. The side effect of this is high gain also increases noise. In fact if you are dealing with a weak signal it can be lost in the increased noise floor.

If you don't see the labeled blue band AND you are in the right range.. make sure you have USA band plan selected and enabled in the Band Plan group on the left menu) You will need to set your modulation to WFM make sure squelch is NOT checked in fact the only thing you should have checked in the Source group will be IQ correction and in the Radio group select WFM as indicated above and NOTHING else for this test. From there move up to 117-128MHz Switch to AM in Radio... you should be able to hear Air Traffic control and aircraft communication. You can adjust your min and max ranges on the right so you have a nice royal blue.. lower your min value so the area in between the signals (your noise floor) is low-ish. You want to see.. I typically have the lowest part of the noise touching the lower line above the frequency labels below. The max slider increases the height of the peaks. I adjust it so I see a tiny bit of red.. a VERY tiny bit. Those are my preferences for looking at the waterfall... Others Max an min to their liking... bu you definitely need to get the noise disply under control so you can see signal and tune properly) OK OK Wake up!! Sorry for the long post... (ha) Let us know what you hear!

      @@tunedsignal *First of all, i just wanted to say that im from EU, so a couple of things are different, but i have all the EU CB channels and stuff :) So, i tryed ++ again, but i cant hear anything but noise. Only works on phone, but im from PC now. SDRSharp works, i can hear FM, even romanian one now haha😁 A couple of air traffic too, so its working thats for sure. On CB channels i see a couple of powerful red lines, but however i change to AM-FM-USB, i cant hear anything. There are some rare really powerful ones i can hear, usually from the another side of the world, like how CB band travels to us :) But not the others sadly. In theory, someone used FM from around 20-25KM away, but i heard nothing, usually thats a distance where i still supposed to hear that with a long GPE27 antenna like mine. Thanks very much for helping:)

      @@drakeblackk Ironically I was going to mention the odd vs even number for the FM range.. What version of SDR++ and what OS do you have? It is in the top menu bar of the SDR++ window.

    Great video. You actually don't want to use the 9:1 balun with the dipole. A dipole as is is close to the impedance you want without the balun. In this case, you should use a 1:1 balun instead.

      I have since learned this... It's a bit embarrassing now... But What I have learned since is a 9:1 is good for a long wire with HF. The reason why it worked on was due to signal strength.... That said.. This is why I take a lot of time to make videos... Researching my assertions... Oh... Yes I can spell resonant and know the context of resonance ... Eek.. Sorry for the typo everyone...

    Nice video. SDRAngel has a decoder that allows decoding the end of train telemetry signals.

      I've heard of that. I focused on vocal coms for safety reasons. Be safe out there. Stay Tuned
