Turban technology was not as refined as it is today. Turbans used in locomotive was inefficient and costly, maybe today if turbans were used, they could make a unit that is both effective in fuel efficiency and fast for 80 mph service, passenger or freight

2:50 to 3:10 LOL - I'm unsure who this person is but I'm wondering if it is the assistant locomotive engineer/driver, however the psychology is fascinating - so the person jumps from the rear of the moving train presumably the loco at 2:51 and then runs ahead of it on the ground and then jumps/leaps onto the front of locomotive at 3:09 and into the cab...Then watch between 19:23 - 19:32 as the figure of a human can clearly be seen running along the top of the locomotives between the exhausts and emitting smoke...omg health and safety would have a feast on this behaviour in today's world of locomotive engineer/driver code of conduct. This video is excellent viewing so thank you to uploader JTOmaha greatly appreciated, pity no audio.

As a kid I would watch this train go past my house. The ore cars would drop some taconite pellets along the tracks and I would gather them up since they were dense and heavy and being the size of small marbles, they made perfect slingshot ammo.

Being from Jersey, I would never have gotten a chance to see these. This film is a real treasure! And the interesting combination of engines used is awesome! Behind UP #13 was what looked to me like 3 Southern Pacific SD45s, and behind UP #7 was 2 GP9s and a GP30 booster unit! Very cool!

Yap, this area looks familiar. That area where the road runs along side the tracks, on the road side is now a park, fairmont park. This right of way is now a light rail spur. Some of those buildings look familiar, at one point, 1:20 looks like the train is headed west bound crossing 7th east but it could be state street. interestingly, the name Sugsrhouse is the name of an old sugarbeet processing plant about a mile from this location that was converted sometime in the 1900's i think, into a prison and later, in the 50s it was torn down and the grounds turned into what is now sugarhouse park. Has a cool, steep hill for sledding. This area is just north of i-80 which runs parallel to this area.

Nice mix of the first and second generation EMD's. Thank you for showing the placement of mid train helpers. A operation often not shown. And somethings never change. A large number of "White Hats" at the derailment. Things like always bring them out unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.

"So why were you guys so late today??" Well.... We had to stop of a P.I.E. truck fouling the tracks. Then a construction crew had a crane parked across the tracks. Then we derailed Then we almost derailed again but the Track Crew shimmied the tracks. Then we almost derailed a 3rd time
