Bill's Model Builds
Германия
Добавлен 28 дек 2021
I build all kinds of models - Wood, Metal, plastic, in fact anything that keeps my hands and mind occupied. I'm no expert, but I have loads of experience in building (and in making mistakes) which i hope to document here, in the hope that others may see my mistakes and so avoid the same thing happening to them. I'm no spring chicken and have no idea , as yet, on how to video and edit for RUclips, but as a pensioner , I have plenty of time to learn (god willing). Currently in my locker I have a hanger full of RC aircraft, A 3 masted ship in 1/70 scale, a Mallorca tramcar, a London Bus and a Sopwith Camel

Great work Bill. You rigging looks really good. How many ships have you built previously?
Thanks Greg. This only my second ship, I previously did the HMS Endurance, which I briefly covered in another video during my build hiatus
@billsmodelbuilds5078 you must be a natural. Santisima looks wonderful.
@@GregWilson635 Thanks Greg, just many, many years of building all kinds of other things 🙄
Nice work Bill. When it comes to ropes I'll usually tie myself to the ship ;)
HAHA Thanks Greg, I sometimes wish I had more hands
Coming together nicely mate.
Thanks Greg
Very nice 🤩🤩 what a fantastic space!
Looking really smart
You should be able to take out the tilt in the foremast when you tie the ratlines/shrouds.
Thanks Neill. Yeah, i had thought to do that but I dont want the ratlines taking the strain of (un)tilting the masts . I think I have most of the tilt out now, it was mostly due to the wood bring bent before I started, which I didnt check until I got to the main mast - Lesson learnt !!!!
Great work Bill . Once I get Victory planked am looking forward to continuing Santisima. Not sure if you realise but for first half of video could barely hear you over the music.
@@GregWilson635 Thanks Greg. I hadn’t realised till my missus told me, something else to look out for while editing
Buen trabajo 👍
Muchas Gracias
Looking good bill. Any idea where i can buy the artesania paint set in the uk ?
I'm sorry i don't. It took me ages to find a supplier here in Germany, and I know there's one in Belgium. Not much help I'm aftraid
Bill you got your back ground Muiic, much better now
Thank You, I'm learning editing as we go along this journey
The foremast came out really well Bill. A step closer to the rigging ;)
Thanks Greg. Closer but still a good ways off :)
Bill, very nice!!!
Thanks Joe
Nice work as always Bill. Using a lathe looks better than a drill.
Thanks Greg, its my first time trying it with a lathe, but it works great , you just have to be careful and take it easy, cant put back if you take too much offv 😥
Bill, still jealous of that new workshop! The ship is looking great!
Thanks Joe, its really nice being able to move around and move my 'tools' where i need them 😎
Nice work Bill. Good to see Santisima back on the bench :)
Bill, congratulations on both the new shop and the build! Nice work, my friend!
Thanks Joe, its good to be back at it
Wellcome back
Thanks.
Bill, congratulations on your new modeling shed! Many years of good luck and fun times!
Very impressive Bill. I'd love something like that. I could fit 3 of my modelling room in yours lol
Thanks Greg, but I'm fast running out of space already 🤣
Apologies, as I was watching the video I realised that several of the comments hadnt saved themselves. I'm a bit rusty at editing after such a long break, but I hope that will improve
Geez, Bill...I am jealous! That setup is really coming out well. I am in a corner of our spare bedroom and would love to expand!
Thanks Joe, my old shed was about half this size, not insulated and lost its roof covering during last winter, so this is luxury.:) Its not just for modelling as I do a lot of hobby woodworking too, hence the stock of ply woods. I just about have allmy old 'stuff' moved in, just have to tidy it up and its back to the ship build
@@billsmodelbuilds5078 Love it!
Bill, very well done! I have not attempted a street car yet, but with all the models I have on hand I better get cracking!
Thanks Joe - after (and during) the pandemic, I diversified on my model building - still fun
Bill, this was my second model and I loved doing it. My first was the Albatross by OcCre and my new build with be Pavel Nikitin's Santa Maria which I just started yesterday.
Wow ! Really nice work 👏
Thank Greg
Not sure why it took so long for RUclips to notify me you had a new video out. But better late than never. The flag rooms came out really well. I'm thinking of lighting them.
I had thought about lighting them too, but I should have added the wires before I closed in the back, Seemed a shame to hide all that work in a dim cabin
Hey Bill, love those flags and boxes!
Thanks Joe
great work Bill. The buckets look very authentic
Thanks Greg. I'm never completely happy with them, but in situ they look better
Looking great, Bill!
Thanks Joe
Looking really good Bill . I think you will have this one finished before I get mine painted lol :P
HaHA - unfortunately (or otherwise) all work will be coming to a standstill soon, as my building workshop is being replaced, so I have to empty it ready for demolition , then rebuild the internals of the new one. I might vlog that part :)
@@billsmodelbuilds5078 that would be good to see
Taking shape right in front of our eyes. Nicely done, Bill!
Thanks Joe
Nice work as usual Bill. Things are not getting any less fiddley are they ;)
Thanks Greg. It seems every next step is more fiddly than the last, but thats what keeps it interesting eh?
Looking good, Bill! Did that coil of wire bounce apart like a Slinky? The cannons are awesome!
Yeah Joe, exactly like an 'out of control' slinky, I really wasnt expecting it
Bill, what a difference! Spectacular conclusion. The correction is outstanding.
Thanks Joe
All good, Bill! Hey, did someone give that dowel a little blue pill???
Haha, I could only get a 1 metre length. It still only cost a few euros, so I'm not too disappointed in my error
Todos cometemos errores, mucho ánimo y adelante 👍
Muchas gracias
Está quedando bien 👍
Muchas Gracias
Looking great, Bill! These subassemblies might be tedious, but the assembly should be very easy when ready for installation.
Thanks Joe - Its very tedious, and at the moment very sweaty, but I'm getting there
It took a tumble! Looking good, Bill. How many cannons in total?
Theres 16 of these, 4 more for the poop deck, and lots and lots to be inserted in all the cannon ports, but they are all on bamboo sticks
Very nice. You'll be done in the blink of an eye
looking good. With all those eyebolts I'm imagining plenty of ropes
Thanks Greg, yeah, lots of ropes, and all left just loose, ie not looped or tied up. Interesting
@@billsmodelbuilds5078 that's certainly different
Bill, You were right, those little bits can certainly take away from bigger items. But as a hobby goes, we do not mind at all. Relaxation....
Hi Joe, it all adds to the final picture :)
Onward to the cannons! Nice, Bill!
Thanks Joe, I'm taking my time with these cannons, the parts are really small and I dont want them flying off the bench. 2 and a half hours for the first one and I still have the pulleys to do :(
@@billsmodelbuilds5078 Yikes! Slow and easy winds the race.
I totally agree. Each step DOES give us a new environment to discover. Great job, Bill!
Looking better with each step!
Great work as usual Bill. The way you seize the rope around the dead eye, is exactly the same way I seize big steel ropes for the mining and maritime industries ;) it works well at any scale.
Thanks Greg. I learned that method on the real thing too, but it was aircraft wiring looms :)
looking good! The bowsprit really adds to the length of the ship
Nice work Bill .Amazing how all the little details bring the ship to life. Did you put the netting on the rails before or after you added the rails to the deck?
Thanks Greg, Yes its amazing how it starts to look so much better. I put the nets on BEFORE I added the rail to the deck. On the pictorial they show the nets as being on the inside of the rail , but it didnt look right to me so I did them on the outside
@billsmodelbuilds5078 I agree . The way you have done it makes a lot more sense.
Very nice job
Danke Mario
Fantastic work as usual Bill. Just a suggestion. When cutting the lengths of wood at the beginning. Instead of using your square to mark it up all the way around you can get a mitre box for crafts and hobbies. With that you can cut perfect 90 deg and ever 45 deg angles. Much quicker. I got mine off Amazon.
Funny enough Greg, I have one of those, in fact I have several in different sizes :). I always forget I have them
Bill, always each video delivers more and more. I am enjoying watching your builds. Keep it up!
Thanks Joe
