Yeah, triple and rotation battles were fairly underused in the vanilla Unova games, there were a pretty low number of them to begin with and I think all but one of them are on optional trainers? Might be wrong on that. But the challenge mode of this hack splits the boss battles between single/double/triple fairly evenly

I figured it was still fine even if I didn't have the leech seed healing while setting up swords dance so I just played it out but I would be lying if I said I didn't consider instantly reloading the second I saw that LMAO

ig they're trying to be somewhat faithful to vanilla teamcomp by replacing bad regional with good regional bird but yeah it's kinda whatever seeing it

oh did he do that in the older versions? It's been a few years since I played those so I don't really remember that. Although he has said on stream that for Redux for the most part the balancing was all done by Aphex who has a different balancing style than him so maybe it's just a design difference between the two of them

@icewave_ idk about og bbvw2, but he was ghost/steel in bbvw1. But I agree, it's probably cuz of aphex

​@@beibkk0 looking at the docs in his google drive it looks like og BBVW2 still had it as ghost steel but the pokemon docs for rising ruby and sinking sapphire don't list it as having a type change so maybe it's also something he went back on himself. Would have been cool to at least put it back in gen 5 though since aegislash/gholdengo don't exist in these games

i've never understood why this is just a stomp clone but only 6 pokemon get to use it. but i guess there are worse low-distribution moves that gamefreak has made so it's not that surprising they'd do that

I think my final default set of 6 ended up being fairly common vanilla game mons because I do still enjoy a lot of those (altho I did run a couple of the things like the buffed Pidgeot/Meganium through the end of the game). I love when fan projects make more things viable either through direct stat/movepool buffs, mechanics changes or even just things like better availability or level curves so I definitely try to at least use some of those things that benefit from the changes whenever I play a hack/fangame even if I don't run them the whole game. Honestly even then, while this game was mostly chill enough that I didn't need to constantly shuffle teams or anything, I'd say that all through the 8th gym leader battle there'd occasionally be a boss with a weather gimmick or triple battle setup like this where whatever default team I had would have a couple mons that were basically useless and gave me an excuse to pull one of the earlier mons back out of the box temporarily which was fun

yeah, for the first two badge stretch the boss rosters are bigger and have better coverage than normal but it's nothing crazy so even on challenge mode I don't think you really face any issues until Castelia. I'd say there's a bit of a spike once you get there, where bosses start having fully evolved stuff, being in doubles/triples, using weather, etc. Obviously still not the most difficult thing ever but at least enough to make me want to rotate some members for a specific boss and stuff

rip :( hope the next run is a win honestly that fight felt like ass with the combo of Steven being mostly useless and it being against one of the game's 500 status spamming crobats that I assume if you get some bad confusion luck that could potentially just kill a run off that which would suck

Yeah, as of the current version almost all gen 1-8 mons are obtainable with the exception of most legendaries (although a handful of them become available in the last chapter of this version), and some of the more broken stuff (apparently list of this is Drilbur/Ferroseed/G-Darumaka/Honedge/Gen 8 fossils/Dreepy/Ursaluna/Torchic if not picked as starter). But aside from that everything is in the game, and I think they plan to add Gen 9 either next patch or the one after that.

@@Spongebobcrying just checked and the dev apparently did confirm a few months ago that v14 will have gen 9 so presumably sprigatito will be added as as starter option when that drops since rn all gen1-8 starters are options. unfortunately v14 is probably at least a few months or maybe longer away if you want to wait for that to start so up to you if you wanna do that or just play now and replay it when v14 comes out (there's a route split towards the end of the current version so you might end up wanting to do a second playthrough if you enjoy it anyway in order to see everything)

@@CocoDot-mh5tc This version came out over 6 years ago at this point, it's basically a gen 6 game (mechanics work like gen 6, available mons are picked from first 6 gens, movesets are generally the ORAS ones). If v4 ever gets completed maybe that will change idk. No postgame at all in this version, it's also supposed to come in v4 which as far as I know hasn't been abandoned but also it's been over 6 years so who knows if/when it'll actually come out

Not a romhack, it's an RPGMaker fangame so you don't need to patch anything or use an emulator, just download and directly run the game (link is at the bottom of the video description if you're interested)

@@naosei9371 I think v1 came out in 2014 based on a pokecommunity thread I found? so it's about 10 years old overall. The current version 13.5 is about a year old now I believe, and had a lot of major overhauls to the whole game. It's not actually complete (currently 15/18 badges + some content after that) but it's still a massive game (like potentially 70-80+ hour range even at this stage) and the story in this version ends on a good stopping point so I think it's still worth playing if you're interested especially since it'll probably be a few years until it actually gets fully completed.

@@AXLDark yeah some of the tracks are sick. fyi one of the pages on the ingame pokedex should have evolution method listed so you can look stuff up in game and there's also an exe called PokeRover in the game files (I think in the /dist folder?) that also basically functions as a dex for evos/moves if you wanna see if you can actually get a mon within your current cap

Yeah I'm pretty sure Destiny's theme is either the instrumental of Racing into the Night or at least a remix of the instrumental

@@drew.peacock69 I think it was in the patch of grass right above Cherrygrove on the way to Mr Pokemon's house? Pretty sure all the non Johto starters are scattered around early routes as 1% encounters or something like that

Not too bad, I think Mako's team was kinda scary but I think there are more than four characters you can fight on the island for the preliminaries anyway so you could probably just skip him and fight someone else if you wanted. The more annoying thing is that the two rounds before Pegasus are randomly drawn from a pool of characters so you can't really prepare in advance by swapping team members or even just your lead/items

this thing carried me the whole game after evolving, I think it was basically the only thing I caught pre-gym 1 that I kept until the end of the game, loved using it

@@DabottIe I think almost all of the overworld sprites were ripped from random GBA games because they all look like this and it's so funny

it's very weird because I think it's fine to do stuff like that where you deviate from the monotype if you have a good theme (like in Aaron's case I think adding rain for bugs makes sense, then since the room has rain throw in a Kabutops since it's insect-looking and then the only real weird thing is the Ludicolo) but Bertha's theme just seems to be stuff that's immune to Sandstorm either by type or Magic Guard so the Clefable and Zam just feel tacked on. I think part of it is also iconic Pokemon from Sinnoh E4 members just getting randomly shuffled around here (Bertha has Zam instead of Lucian, I can't even tell what the theme of Lucian's team is supposed to be, Flint stole Rhyperior for Bertha because he has a sun team kind of and that helps with one of its 4x weaknesses? I have no idea why he has a Rhyperior)

@@icewave_ EXACTLY! I loved that Arron had a kaputops in rain. His whole theme looked savanna like anyway. But Lucian with Dragonite is really awkward and I dislike it immensely

@@liquids_death2787 Yeah for sure, even if Bertha/Flint were kinda awkward in execution here I can at least see they were supposed to be based around the weathers, but it didn't seem like there was any real concept behind Lucian's team so he just kept half his Psychics and then the other half were just random good Pokemon that don't have any real reason to be there

Clefable was inserted there because it has Magic Guard which makes it immune to Sandstorm damage.

Did you do the postgame stuff? Once you beat the league the first time Silver should give you a ticket to the postgame area, once you resolve the final Team Phoenix plot there you're able to fight Gold, which will unlock Gym Leader rematches. After you beat all 8 leaders in order again, Clair will tell you the League has found a new champion and you can go rematch at that point.

@@s6mistakill110 I didn't try to get more than one but the docs that came with the game say "Apricotta Beach Event" for all three so I assume it's only the one that you pick?

imo Aron is pretty solid for both, while it didn't come up in this video in the second gym because of stuff like lucky critting the Sylveon part of the reason I restarted my original save before doing this playthrough was because I realized something like that would be pretty useful, although I did get past the second gym fine on my first run without it too. I've heard Fletchinder is also pretty good for gym 2 for being a fire type that can learn a steel wing TM you can pick up after the first gym as well. For Whitney the scary thing is the Swellow which is quad resisted on both STABs by something like Aron. You also get a Toxic TM in Goldenrod and I think can buy Protect TMs at the Department Store too, so you can do some Toxic stall stuff for her as well. (also for what it's worth if you're willing to use switch mode and/or use items in battle I think both of these get easier since I think at least part of the difficulty spike was because they weren't intended for set+no items which is what I play on but idk how you play)
