A Few Times Around the Pattern, Insta360 X4
Four landings in a Cessna 172 with nearly perfect conditions. Cold air, no wind, clear skies, and light traffic. The first landing was a bit to the left, but the others were pretty good.
Trying to figure out the best placement for the Insta360 X4, and learning how to edit better as well.

This is just a quick test video to see if the VR 360 pan and zoom feature works. Taken with an Insta360 X4, 10 days worth of rendering on a 10 year old Dell laptop, and uploaded just to see if it works. #cessna #insta360x4
First Insta360 X4 Video

Testing out the new Insta360 X4 in a nasty looking Cessna 172. I don't have a proper mount yet, and the bad windshield on this plane greatly degrades the overall quality. Also, the weather was one of those days where the light is very flat, and the landscape is in that low color winter mode. So... not really the best conditions. Although the camera seems to be operating as intended, I'm afraid ...

Part of a flight out of Troutdale (KTTD) to see some fall colors, sun, clouds, the Portland Water Bureau project nowhere near Portland, and a touch and go at Valley View (5S9); then a few landings at KTTD because I need to get better!

I caught just the tail end of the aurora show the other night, but also a nice meteor. I've only seen this happen once before it leaves a trail of plasma and burning dust in the atmosphere long after it has gone.

On the night of May 10th, 2024, much of North America was treated to a show of the Northern Lights. I had always wanted to see and photograph the lights, and this was going to be my first chance. I thought: I'm in Oregon, there might be a cool glow on the horizon. Nope... it was a little more than that. I got quite a few photos from an open spot, then set the camera up and did this time lapse f...

Sunset Pattern Work in a Piper Cherokee, Troutdale (KTTD)
I'm jealous, my plane has been in annual this whole stretch of nice weather.
Ha! Well, these little flights scratch the itch every week or so, but I'm jealous you have your own plane! I think I might be able to do some kind of partnership one day, but that's a few years off.
@rvrnnr987 I'm in a partnership right now. It's definitely a good way to get a start in airplane ownership.
By the way, that brown 172 is delicious looking. Is that yours? Let me know if you ever make it down to KTTD.
@@rvrnnr987 yeah, 172HR is mine (my club's). It's been nicknamed Reese due to it's livery. Hopefully I'll make it down there pretty soon!
Nice video. Thanks for the explanation in the description on how to get the overlay. I didn't know that it was automatic with a phone start. Will have to try that.
Yeah! It had me confused at first because it seemed so restrictive. But today I did some tests while driving, and confirmed that once it is turned on, the GPS telemetry will be there as long as you start the recording with the phone app.
Not nasty at all, that Cessna shows character. Good stuff!
Ha! Actually, it flies pretty well, and they keep the engines running right.
some music would have been good plus a little commentary.
Thanks for watching! Mainly, these are just a video logbook for me, and maybe to let people see what the local airports are like? If I ever get a modern camera, I may be tempted to put a little more effort in, but right now it's fly for a month, or buy a camera! I'd rather fly.
I would check the valve caps. Maybe. Or bad cumbustion knocking on one cylinder because of injector problem?
I’ve a 300Tdi with 195k miles on. Mine sounds exactly the same!! There’s plenty of power, no smoke and runs lovely apart from this sound. I was speaking to a guy earlier this year who used to own a Discovery 300tdi and his was the same, said he never got to the bottom of it. To be honest I’m thinking fuelling as some have already said. Anyway glad it’s just not my truck!! 😅
Hello, I have a TD5 defender and the same problem happen to me when I start the engine after 1 day off. As long as I don't push the engine properly (engine cold or after getting it warm) the blue smoke is behind. I have changed the seals and washers of the injectors, but no change happened. I haven't understand what was your problem and the solution you found in the end. Can you give a bite of details. Greetings.
What part of Oregon was this?
East of Portland, semi-rural.
All good comments. I ended up selling this vehicle not long after the video was taken. No issues were ever found, although I do think the engine is simply old and could use a refurb. It always ran well, but I never did get it to pull as much as I think it should have. Also, I was a long way from really figuring out the HVAC system on this vehicle, and probably would have needed to do some more work to be satisfied. In the end, I owned my dream car! I built it with a budget to what I figured I could realistically do, and when I sold it, I was really happy to see it going to a family that will have some adventures in it. I'm sure I'll see it around someday, since it is only an hour or so away.
Next to valve cover, a steel oil return line runs , on turbo side. This is often loose and makes same sound, caused by obvious vibration. Take some rubber tape and make a spacer to fit between valve cover and this oil line. Common issue but will cause no damage, just annoying.
crankshaft bearings. Mine made same noise and found 2 out of 4 have worn-out.
I have the same sound, does anyone know what the problem is?
Cant hear it. Sure you have not got tinnitus?
MINE WAS DOING THIS I PUT INJECTOR CLEANER IN IT AND IT SORTED IT BUT I HAD A DISCOVERY 300 TDI AND THE VACUME PUMP WAS MAKING THAT KNOCK
Its the setting on the pump to advanced !!! Needs to be reset back to factory settings just about to reset mine ....
eccentric shaft sprocket
Nice. Thanks for sharing. I recognize a couple of those trucks. ;) JC.
Just found this. I have a similar issue. Any more ideas ?
Boas irmao, eu tinha o mesmo barulho, desmontei todo motor para descobrir que o problema era a polia do veio centrico🤣🤣🤣 passei mal
Push Pretty Hard against your Injector Lines, is the Noise gone ? On mine the Injector lines started just Swinging ..
I have same noise on mine i am about to replace harmonic balancer and key ...
Look the tbelt bearing
@@sandrinifontes476 just recently replaced it i think i am one tooth to advanced evidently they ring like that when advanced on the diesel pump im gunna reset mine next week !!
Harmonic balancer keyway slack
Loose tappet ?
May the tappet make this sound? bcz i face this problem and when i open the firt screw of the pipe of the first injector the sound goes out
You need a valve steam seal or you have a over pressurized crank case
87 seconds i wont get back
Hey there can you tell me where you found the Rpm reader...and also ur valve seals might be faulty if not the big one
Mine has a similar tickling noise. Replaced vacuum pump with a new one (Wabco Made in France), the tick tick is still there. I've read somewhere about conrods problems! Hope it's not my case!!!!
Did you find the problem? I have the same sound.
Nope. It never got worse, never went away. Mostly, I was the only one who could hear it, and usually only when it was in my garage. I've sold the 110! Turning my attention to my '65 Seires IIa that I've had for 20 years.
Did u know the problem ?
Guys look at the bearing of the tbel
I have the same noise. I found problem, ı @@rvrnnr987

What was this cheers
Never have found out. It seems to have not gotten any worse....?
What was it? Mine does exactly the same
Its fuel pump timing. Refurb pump or advance and it goes
@@outdoorgorilla1493 hi did you manage to sort the smoke out by advancing the timing pump ?
@@lewishancox9956 Yes, had pump refurbished made no difference. Timing was spot on factory marks but advancing one tooth then eventually 2 eliminated smoke and gave vastly more power.
@@outdoorgorilla1493 thanks for the reply I’m currently having this issue , do you advance the timing using the small plate at the front and then gradually smaller drill bits from. 9mm downwards. If it’s no trouble
@@lewishancox9956 I just took the timing belt of and literally just turned the pump gear until it was a couple of teeth advanced and put back on. I'd never touch the actual timing on the diesel pump screw. Very complex pumps
Did you find the problem?
I've not found any actual problem. The engine is running as well as ever, so until something actually goes wrong, I won't be pulling things apart to search for the origin of this noise. I'll see if I can remember to post something here if I ever come across anything.
@@rvrnnr987 I am thinking that part of my problem is 10w40 oil. May be to thin. Will change that since it only makes noise when the engine starts to warm up
I think mine is doing the same
sounds like the 300 tdi right down to the metallic ringing. Perhaps it is just a combustion knock?
Wow! Thanks for replying to this! I've been trying to get people to hear it, or to get it recorded for a long time. I'm glad you think it sounds normal, but I'm curious about possible combustion knock. Assuming the timing is correct on the belt, and the pump, what could cause a knock in a single piston? (In this case, it really does sound like it is coming from #1.)
@@rvrnnr987 I've got the same thing on my d1 did you find what it is mate ?
