Nikhil Banerjee Workshop
This is a workshop given in the United States by Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, along with Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Location and date unknown. Perhaps Pandit Anindo Chatterjee remembers? Also, I don't know who is the woman on tamboura.
Note on the video: The source tape was in very poor condition, shot on fairly primitive equipment. The beginning of the workshop is missing. There were many video glitches and dropouts, so other (small) parts are missing. There is annoying audio leakage from an unknown source that penetrates into this recording.

Nikhil Banerjee and Mahapurush Misra - Raga Desh - San Francisco - Higher quality
Просмотров 41 тыс.Год назад
From the television broadcast on the San Francisco public television station KQED. I was always told this was from 1968 but apparently it was recorded on 20 September 1967. Some supporting documents suggested it was 1968. Video begins with introduction and short tabla solo. Raga soon follows.

This the current first 5 minutes of my documentary on Indian classical sitarist extraordinaire Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. The current full running time of the work-in-progress is 80 minutes. The film is in need of funding (archival footage licensing, etc) in order to proceed.
Extraordinary. Thank goodness it was recorded.
চমৎকার। Simply soul stirring।

🙏🙏🙏🙏 ❤️❤️❤️❤️

31:58 - 33:12 is a snippet of something that had never happened in sitar before Nikhil Banerjee and will not happen after him.
The lower register notes remind me of the Rudra Veena. Much appreciated.

Evergreen Legend of India
Again I am asking people to tell the person who copied my post of this video recording and shared it on youtube as his own to take it down. He gave no credit to me who spent an enormous effort and money to not only locate, but to have this precious and rare footage preserved digitally so that it could then be shared with the world. When I asked him to take his post down he was very hostile towards me and he deleted my request from his comments page. In the spirit of and out of respect to Pandit Nikhil Banerjee he should not be doing this. Thank you for your help and understanding. Steven
Sir, may I ask where can I see your original post? I searched RUclips and didn't find it. Could you perhaps send me a link? Thanks.
Mahapurush Misra is playing some specific style? It sounds a bit different. I like it! Who plays tabla in similar way?
EPHEMERAL.
Thank you so so so much for posting this!💗
The sound of the strings of Mr.Nikhil Banerjee is unique. It is pertinent to mention that since listening sitar through radio almost all recordings are of this legend. His devotion towards sitar has given me pleasure to feel utmost.
Nikhil Banerjee is God of Sitar
I'm grateful that you shared this recording. I had never watched him play from so close, for so long. I could not hold my tears. Ebullient. And Pandit Mahapurush Mishra Ji. Oh dear. Oh dear.❤
Mahapurush mishra ji❤😢
"If God had played sitar ,He would played with Nikhils hand" -je suis entièrement d'accord avec ce commentaire : si Dieu jouait du sitar, il jouerait avec les mains de Nikhil Banerjee
Thanks a ton for sharing this.
Divine and unmatched … in this world as well as other worlds
Desh was adopted into our Carnatic music traditions. One not too popular composer called 'vaggeyakara' in Carnatic music circles Tanjavur Late Shri Shankara Iyer wrote a beautiful Desh raga song in praise of Lord Srirama that became popular. Desh has that patriotic sound as it pertains to the notion of Desh-hood, an India of all types of Indians who speak at least nationally accepted 21 full-fledged languages and countless local dialects. Huge country untied in one Indianness -- Desh raga sends that unifying message. Rainy raga with sprays of sadness as mentioned by that delightful American host of this San Fransisco recital[I live not too far from San Fransisco these days]. This is indeed a moving raga; Banerjee is brilliant at the alap[In S India it is "aalapana"] part; wait until he plays the song with tabla accompaniment. P P N Kanthikumar
