Edit: I found that if I set the height of the sheet to half its width on the dashboard and set the y-axis to 0.5 to -0.5 it maintains the correct angle. Cheers! This method is really interesting and it was fun to build - I do find though that it's limiting because the angle of the arrows is affected by the dimensions you give the sheet on the dashboard. I only want to show 50% of the circle and there's a lot of white space that I can't trim down, which means the viz takes up a lot more space than I'd like. But if you don't give the gauge its full space, the line lengths and angles shift and are no longer aligned with the underlying pie chart. I suppose because resizing the sheet effectively changes the axis range

Great technique. Though at 12:46 I'd have chosen a different title for the dashboard, just to avoid any problematic historical echoes. Just "Solution" might work.

Is there a way to adjust individual column width? So the main text column is wider than a single shape column next to it?

Perfect video, extremely helpful, well paced, and the extra detail with timestamped sections really helped. One thing I will mention to those replicating this, if you run into an issue with the y axis sizing with the spark-lines (either too little movement or off the graph) you can normalize the data. To do this I took: (SUM([Metric]) - WINDOW_MIN(SUM([Metric]))/ (WINDOW_MAX(SUM([Metric]))- WINDOW_MIN(SUM([Metric]))) *[Metric] being just any field you are using.* This ensures it takes the window max and min of each cell so it can properly normalize the data between 0 and 1. Then, same as the video, you can add your SUM([Metric]) onto text to give it the value on the line. Hope this helps! All credit to the Wizard Samuel Parsons for discovering this was even possible. This is really excellent, and I love the fact you let people download your workbooks as well. Wonderful.

I loved it. I have used a lot of the concepts to create a Gauge chart on savings vs target. I decided not to go with the 80+1 partition because I needed the precise data, and also decided to go for the 30% blank option (70% gauge), then hardcoded the 70/30 and calculated how the colors should look like. I had to see it multiple times to get some parts of it, however, it was totally worth it. One tip: it has worked for me to remove the option of panning and zooming, so your dashboard does not zoom when you touch the mouse's trackball. To do that Map >> Map Options >> [uncheck] Allow Map and Zoom. This will save you some headaches.

Great video! I tried to reverse engineer this for what I am doing but running into an issue. I only want to create a pie chart and then a bar graph by day for volume of errors within controls we are building. I have 60 days worth of data so I am having trouble figuring out the 4 vertical bars you have and converting it to essentially 60 bars with varying volume each day.

Great Video! Is there a way to make a static gauge chart then? For example, I have 2 targets to compare with the current value, and I did not want any dynamic parameters.

Is there any way I could make my axis wider for my text? It does not fit and the text is cut but when I try to grab the header and make it wider all of my axis get wider and that's not what I want. I want to independently resize only my axis where I have my text. If anyone has any tips let me know please ! thank you, it is a masterpiece video!

Hey Sam, this is amazing! I am stuck on the vertical bars....the bars on my end are all the same height! For the vertical bar - size calc, i used a custom formula instead of -sum(sales) as you used in your report. Any thoughts?

please add a bit more volume volume if possible because even at 100% volume is below normal.

when i tried to replicate the vertical bars design, all my table calculations were defaulting to reading down, not across, so the results were not 1 and 4. I've been looking at this all day and comparing to your original tableau file. I'm super stuck can't figure it out.

I have one question / request - I'm trying to drill down into the city level (clicking on a state would populate the cities in that state) but the sparklines become identical for each of the cities. When I use dimension as a filter (in your case State) and choose only one to show the whole logic stops from working. All sparklines look the same. Maybe you have some ideas why it is happening? I would appreciate if you can help to solve this problem.

Hi Sam! This is a BRILLIANT tutorial. I did want to point out that you need to have the Y-Axis pill calc in place on the pane before you can set the sizing of the mini bar chart. If you don't, you won't get to set the manual or fixed sizing options in the bar chart pill - instead you will have just the normal Tableau sizing slider :) Also I note, trying to replicate this with some other data that that when I try use 'bar' it tries to plot the bar vertically rather than horizontally. Only Gantt Bar will work for horizontal. Not sure why that is occurring.

Thanks for the enriching video. I have used your exact formulas but encounter a problem with X pointer Y pointer and angel pointer are not working correctly. The values calculated are incorrect and therefore the needle point at the wrong direction. I would appreciate if you can guide me what can be the issue
