    No, u are sharpening wrong side. Don't learn from that. 2mm of sanding paste on the leather edge and pull back flatside a few times. Don’t even need inside sharpening.

    • @mcewenhandcraft
      @mcewenhandcraft Месяц назад

      @@jarimiettinen779 while I agree you can strip the outside quite often, but eventually that will stop working as the other side will develop burrs and youl need to address it. It's like a chisel.. you sharpen on the bevel mostly. But every so often you've got to address the flat.

      Your angle might be off. It's also possible you have a bad temper on your tool. Weak metal doesn't hold a good edge. Honestly I'd have to look at it to tell you for sure what's wrong.

    What did you dissolve the cmc in? If its oil, then thats the reason it wouldn’t burnish. You need to dissolve it in boiling water. (It dosen’t dissolve easily in water unless its hot.)

    • @mcewenhandcraft
      @mcewenhandcraft Год назад

      It was premixed in the jar. It has the consistency of a thin jello. I've gotten a bit better with it since this video. But it's still not my favorite product

    Did you have to wet the leather prior?

    • @mcewenhandcraft
      @mcewenhandcraft 2 года назад

      Yes. You have to 'case' the leather with water. To properly case the leather you should wet it and allow it to soak in. You wa t the water IN the leather. Not ON the leather. If it still feels wet it might need another 5 minutes.

    What kind of wax is this block?

    • @mcewenhandcraft
      @mcewenhandcraft 3 года назад

      The big one in the video is a mix. Mostly High melting point paraffin and beeswax. About a 60/40 mix. I use it to harden leather for Armour. The smaller one I show is pure beeswax. For this to work just about any kind of wax will work.

    • @mcewenhandcraft

      Yeah. Sharpies are similar to Fiebings regular leather Dye. Which means it does come off real easy until you put a finishing top coat on.
