Great memories, I was there in March 1973. To clarify, this is the World Cup which was held on the last snow based track with high banked corners at the downtown Peterborough Ontario Morrow Park Fairground site. As can be seen, it was a very mild weekend with ponding in the corners from the melted snow banks. The Kawartha Cup was traditionally held in early January as it was in 1973. Bud Lee and Jack Cook who are shown early in the video challenging the Villeneuve brothers drove for the Kohler Canada snowmobile engine plant in Mississauga Ontario on their Kohler powered Speedway sleds. The Following year, Bud and Jack along with Gary Mahood would race the Kohler Sno Pro sleds in the inaugural 1973/74 Sno Pro Season. The Villeneuve brothers pretty well put Alouette in the forefront in the 1973 Season. After a slow start to the season as mentioned in this video by Gilles, they went to Beausejour Manitoba in February for the CPTC event where Gilles dominated the event winning every class he entered except the Mod 440 class were he was beaten by Gene Bloom on his Factory Rupp from Ohio. This is another great CTV Wide World of Sports video with Fergie Oliver interviews which capture the best racers of this era at Peterborough Ontario which was arguably the best attended race in North America.
I saw him race at or near hemmingford quebec in 72? 73?
In the first race you see that's my uncle Bud winning it Villinuve in second and my dad in third . I went on to win the Junior (under 16 ) Kawartha Cup that Day and Villinuve won the men's division . Had a lot of fun that weekend .
Where was this race, it’s a 1974 snopro race, the allouette twin track, snopro cats and Polaris and a quick shot of the 440 Yamaha plus some mercs, the 2 thunderjets, one is Jim adema on the 930 with the hood on his snowmobile suit,it also showed how good the twin track was if only it would stay running, classic footage, just awesome.
This footage is from CPTC in Beausejour
I was there that day it was colder then a Hooker's hart.Thrre was no Mercs at that point .
merc had snotwisters in 1974, at 10.42 is a merc leading, and more in the next minute
@@gregoryworth6644That does look like a Merc but I really don't remember them from there at that race.aMy father and uncle both ran for Kohler in Snow Pro that year.Their sleds were made by a company called Texas Product's with of course Kohler engines As i said it was brutally cold that day and I only got out of the motorhome to see my dad race so I may have missed them. lol
@@Trackratz-zl9di hey thanks for the info on your dad racing for Kohler, by any chance was he bud lee that name came to memory along with kohler sno pro team, I did a search later on the team an wondered why I had seen 2 different sled designs but it said they had changed equipment during the race season, I do remember the Texas products ads in magazines for chassis, skies and other parts, cause some of the parts look like ones on my 1973 thunder jet, the skies and suspension, this and the other Gilles video ( he and Adema were my race hero s) that showed up about the same time are great, you got to see some great sno pro history with your dad on a team
That's awesome footage.
A young Gilles. Who knew then that four wheels would be in his future. From Allouette to Ferrari. A legend!
Wicked
Awesome rare footage. I was probably there.
I remember those races...
Great footage! Thanks
of course my uncle norm gets in the top crashes 😭😭
Good Kid, Him and his sister are amazing additions to the class and sport
Great interview. Thanks for posting
Great interview #54!
ANYONE TRACKSIDE HAVE VIDEO OF RACE #1 CRASH ON BACK STRAIGHT? TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH REPLAY DON'T SHOW ANY OTHER ANGLES OF MY CRASH (#69). PLEASE POST HERE AND I WILL CONTACT YOU. i'D LIKE TO SEE A VIEW FROM BACK STRAIGHT SIDE OR FROM THE CORNER. I'M OK, SLED NOT SO MUCH, LOL!
What about Stephan carignan
In an effort to not single anyone one out, I purposefully didn't mention any names when it came to who helped John. We are all aware of the impact certain indiviuals had. John mentioned Riley and that came direct from John. No disrespect to Stephan at all.
Damn…I don’t know John, but that man is a warrior and I wish you nothing but continued progress and stay mind & heart strong ✌🏻
I don’t know John personally. But I think about him anytime I see a snowmobile or watch a race. I’m praying for him to continue healing. If you see this John stay strong don’t lose faith. You’re an inspiration . We all love you man! Also it’s definitely a Reese’s!!
Very interesting and very enjoyable. Thanks for doing this
These guys rock.
Hi, Nice video, and they usually are, having said that something to put in suggestion box, it would be helpful to maybe give a little information a minute or so before race starts or o some of the dead time during race. Just give a brief explanation of what the classes are , engine size , estimated HP, and maybe say what each driver is riding, Skidoo, Polaris, etc. Thanks and keep it up.
From the infield, you can feel it.💥💥💥💥💥
Pretty cool hype video. Racing venue looks great.
'promosm' 👊
Stern is back 💥💥💥
😮let it snow.
Best sled I ever ride so far ! It was a Polaris 800 in the back country Northern British Columbia, Canada I will never forget the FEELING SKIMMING down the powder !!!!! :-)
LOL I LOVE THAT YOU MENTION POUTINE DAY ! I'M FROM QUEBEC CITY ! 30 YEARS THIS YEAR IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA ! 🙂
Great riders.
Awesome race and a great facility
Thank you great racing 😊
Couple of guys I can honestly say are like family… lot of love for Matt and Tyson
Awesome!
Gilles Villeneuve would be proud
The one I notice it’s the fastest sled that usually wins not necessarily the best rider…
What an awesome track..look at all that room to make passes and open up that throttle….👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Would be great to see the results at the end to include Provinces, States and Countries.
Hi Brad, you can find all the official results on our website: cptcracing.com/results/
Great event. Reminds me a lot of Eagle River.
Any Sunday Day 2 spectators at turn 3/4 have video of Relic Mod race 20? Please let me know? Thanks.

Relic Mod Race#31 at 3:32:05: Yes, we were confused and should have read the program to see we had a 5-lap race instead of the normal 3-lap. Lots of lead changes made for a surprise ending, which is good for the class; we all had fun! Kudos to CPTC for giving us a clean track for our relics. Cdem72 #69
