...you, you seem to have a Colonial Mentality. Or foolishness. Maybe both. Do you know what ‘ahimsa’ means? It does not mean ‘non-violence’. Violence is only physical harm. No, Ahimsa means ‘minimisation of harm’ - mental, verbal, physical. Why ‘minimisation’? Because you can never truly abolish harm. A little bit of harm is necessary for society to survive and function, for cycles of life to continue. There is some harm when a fox kills and eats a rabbit, some harm when a rabbit eats the grass, some harm when we eat the rabbit or we pluck a carrot. The trick is that when humans act, we act with Dharmic principles - to optimise prosperity for all beings, as Mata Laxmi, also known as Bhudevi (Devi as Earth) would have it. Not to mention, all creatures have their own dharma. a fox’s dharma is to eat the rabbit, A rabbit’s dharma is to eat the grass. a person’s dharma is to eat the carrot or maybe the rabbit. This is just the natural functions of beings living in this complex system. this is one meaning of Dharma. And one of these dharmic principles - principles resulting not from some rule/religious book or command, but wisdom and hundreds of years of debate, and indeed the devas - is Ahimsa. If someone comes to your village and threatens to shoot all the children and rape the woman, what do you do? ‘I’ll tell him to kill me first’. This is Gandhi’s response to that very same question when he was asked in an interview. He also said things along the lines of ‘the Jews should k*ll themselves’ so that the Nazi’s can express remorse and realise the error of their ways. He claims to have read the Bhagavad Gita and yet somehow preaches ‘Ahimsa = non-violence’. Gandhi was a sepoy - Indian flesh, British mind - and a stooge of theirs. That is NOT Ahimsa. In that situation, Ahimsa would actually be killing or disabling the guy who is making all these threats and have him detained, etc. For a peaceful society, one of dharma and shanti, one can never fully get rid of harm. It’s the same way when you scold a child. You’re actually minimising the harm this child could cause or that could happen to the child by hurting their feelings or ego a little now. Ironically, you must be capable of harm to maintain peace. This is Ahimsa. You cannot be a rabbit in a jungle. You’ll get eaten! There’s nothing virtuous about being a rabbit - you’re not CHOOSING to be peaceful. Rabbits are completely incapable of any sort of harm. They’re harmless and easily trampled. A fox could eat all the baby rabbits and there is little the parents could do but watch in helplessly and breed more. what massive harm to the poor baby rabbit! this kind of conduct is NOT in the slightest conducive to peace, to Ahimsa, to minimisation of harm. to minimise harm, In the jungle, you must be like an elephant - a gentle, civilised beast, but able to enter beast mode should anyone threaten their young or their herd. I don’t know how Gandhi read the Gita. he must have hit his head or number of times, or he is a British stooge. but Krishna says this , verse 4.42: “Armed in Yoga, O’Bharata, stand and fight!” Not armed in ignorance or stupidity, ego or a sense of superior - but with transcendental knowledge - nothing short of truth, dettachment, objectivity, and therefore dharma. and, naturally, Ahimsa. Fight immersed in that and nothing else, in your mind. Don’t just try and go after someone because they ate your cookie. In fighting the Britishers and many other colonisers - cultural and physical genocidal maniacs (including Muslim invaders/colonisers), Silambam has been used very effectively. in times before, it was used to keep people safe from wild animals and even other dangerous individuals. It was used to minimise harm. to keep peace, o protect themselves and drive invaders out Of their lands, To stop them from destroying their culture, ways, and environment, and olishing their temples. the same culture - called Sanatana Dharma - that gave the Jews refuge for hundreds of years from repeated inquisitions and hunts against them all throughout history. What the girl is doing, on top of that, is just a performance. She’s not hurting anyone. So, if you are truly not a fool, reconsider your views. Stop seeing yourself and your culture (I’m assuming you’re Bharatiya based on your username) from an outsider’s eyes, a westernised lens. Start seeing this profound and beautiful culture as it really is, through the Vedic or dharmic lens. Of pure truth. This is what it means to ‘decolonise’. The British left a long time ago, but we still see ourselves through the theories they fabricated (eg Aryan invasion theory, caste system, Hinduism is a religion) and how they made us out to be to justify their invasion.
