Body and frame go together - Triumph TR6 +Episode BMW 135 = TR135 Restomod - Episode 8
I'm taking a 1968 Triumph TR6 and swapping the drivetrain from a 2009 BMW 135i into a custom chassis to create a TR135 Restomod.
This episode I get the body mounted temporality to the frame. I get some custom parts attached to the frame so everything is ready for mounting to the rotisserie.

    Just found your channel and subscribed. It feels as if the gussets you're planning for the end of the floor rail will need to be pretty substantial. Interesting direction, though!

      Thanks Charlie. Yeh, I was thinking the same thing, but I'm also planning on a roll cage that will help take some of the pressure off them. Not sure if I'll have to plate the sides of the rails and the gussets as well. Thanks for subscribing!

      For sure as long as my welding is good. I'm thinking that I'll weld the chassis to the body instead of having it removeable. Once I do all the custom stuff to it, I think it only makes sense to create a unibody.

    Phew, some hard work there Howard. I'm doing the TVR refurb but nothing like the work you have in front of you. Well done so far. Have you any plans for the front suspension mounts. The ones you have on at the moment will bend inward with pressure. But i am sure you have that in hand. Volume perfect. Steve.

    Hi Howard. Great video. Coming on nicely. Now without being critical may i suggest a couple of things that may get you more viewers etc. 1st is your title. It makes no mention of a Triumph or model other than TR135 which means nothing to someone searching on the tube or google. Triumph TR5 with BMW retrofit engine. or something similar. Then in your description box make sure you mention the same paragraph as your title, somewhere near the begining of it. I was given this info some time ago & it brought more viewers to my channel. 2nd. Your voice is very quiet & then the music is double volume. So continually turning vol up & down. Family in next room etc. Keep up the good work. Looks like it's going to be a brilliant car once done. Will keep a look out for the next video. Steve.

      Thank you for the tips Steve! Yeh, I'm still learning the video editing part. I think I got it sorted for next episode. I will definitely change up the title and description. Thank you for that experience! And thanks for watching.

    Hi Howard. Here in the UK, way back a few mates had the TR range. 1 was a TR250. 1 was a TR6. The Injection made by i think Lucas way very poor & often failed. The straight 6 engine though was quite bulletproof. I had a Triumph 2500 PI saloon for many years & pulled my F1 Stock car along to meetings with it. Great car. I have given you a sub. On my channel i am doing a series on my newly acquired TVR Chimaera 450. Will follow your build. Good luck. Steve.

      Thanks @steviegtr52! This is my first Triumph... I had the opportunity way back to buy one, but side by side with the Volvo p1800 the guy had in the driveway for the same price, I just had to to the 1800. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out and eventually driving it. Either way, with the BMW135 drivetrain and really little else to add a lot of weight, it should go like stink! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Very brave of you to take on this project with just a week of welding "experience". i don't know your skill set on working with vehicles, but presumably you do have some? I am fascinate to see what transpires! Obviously you will need to add fish plates to the frame joints. I am not convinced by the number of parts that the chassis has. Seems to be too many in too short a space . You are not clamping anything that you are welding, nor do you have a jig not ensure squareness of the frame, or its relationship to the Triumph body. You will likely have some fun down the line.

    • @HomeBuiltByHoward
      @HomeBuiltByHoward 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks man!!! Yeh, I have some experience with mechanicals on cars and a bit of body work... mostly my experience is as an industrial designer. I'm not afraid to give it a go and mess up, which I think is good for the project... perhaps not my bank account tho... The parts were laser cut so they fit really tight and square. I have only tacked them so far to hold them in place while I get way more pieces cut and laid out. There is still a lot of wiggle room for adjustment before I fully weld them out. So I'll be squaring everything up as I go along and then locking things down before final weldup. I hope you'll stick around and watch as I make my way through the project.

      It was at the side of the road with its mother. It's mother crossed but this little guy was too scared. He turned and hid where Pete picked him up. His mother kept prancing around the field across the road until we brought him over. Then he hid again. As we drove off the mother came over to him and they both wandered off into the field.
