Hi Stephen - thanks for the video. Your english is very good. I have a suggestion for you. There are a lot of products in China for astrophotography - most of them are new (like ToupTek, ClearSky, Oasis, etc. These products are not known to us in the US - but they are excellent products. It'd be awesome if you can post videos of the local brands (such as this ClearSky mount) for the people in the US / rest of the world.

Hi Stephen. Excellent review! Your English is very good! It looks like ClearSky is a company to watch, and it will be wonderful if the ST17 becomes available outside of China. It will be perfect for young amateur astronomers & amateur astronomers who have limited financial resources! Two points I would like to add: (a) The laws for lasers & safety are different in many nations, so I wonder if ClearSky will have to modify its mount (remove the laser) before it can begin selling the mount in other nations. I agree that having an adapter for a Polemaster (or similar device) would be a wise improvement. (b) My experience with Rainbow Astro and ZWO harmonic mounts is that the equatorial mount is able to withstand wind, unless the telescope is too heavy or too long, however the tripods offered with many harmonic mounts are too light. As you know as a Physics student, it requires more force to accelerate a larger mass than it does for a smaller mass, plus the width of the base of the tripod (where the feet touch the ground) greatly affects stability. This is why the HEQ5 mount, its counterweight & its large metal tripod were less affected by the wind. It does help if a 'tripod hammock' is used between the legs of the TC40 tripod, and a heavy object is placed in it. Unfortunately, even with more weight on the tripod, the TC40 tripod is still not the best choice if a longer/wider telescope is used and it is windy. I have chosen to purchase a heavier carbon fibre tripod with a large spacing between the tripod feet to ensure that the mount can withstand some wind, and this has helped.
