All of you do realize that it is the director of a show who directs the actor as to their motivation in playing a role…not the actor. If the performance is angry, the director asked for that and the actor delivered it. So if you don’t think it works, fine. But the very talented actress you are watching is doing a very fine job at what she was asked to do.
Wow! Why she didn't play Broadway more is a mystery of the inner workings of theatre. Broadway's loss is regional theatre's gain. Seeing Annie's face on Sally Bowles is mind blowing.
Exceptional, infallible.
Love her voice....since the original broadway cast of "Annie". RUclips is great for rediscovering old favorites. Thanks.
I am now convinced that there is not a part on Broadway that Andrea McArdle could NOT play!
.
All I can think is that she must have had the worst management team EVER. She clearly has the talent to become one of the biggest stars EVER. GET NEW MANAGEMENT. YOU'RE AMAZING!!!!!
Wow, very nice and cool .. great dance amazing. greetings friends success always
I wish that I could have been in the audience during this performance. I'm impressed with her commitment to the role and her accent.
Omg with the people clapping like shut up!
She is a great lady, I was part of the crew on this tour and she slayed it every night, my first Sally was Joely Fisher, then Leah Thompson, then Kate Shindle, and we finished the tour with Andrea, one of the best experiences of my life on a great tour with amazing talent, I would love to go on tour with that show again in a minute!
My favorite musical.
As far away from Annie as you can get.
I had the great fortune to see her play Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, back in 1985. She was glorious.
Wow! Little Orphan Annie giving Lea Salonga a run for her money.
Love them both! Amazing artists❤
Annie giving Annie a run for her money, rather.
I will NEVER tire of Andrea's incredible voice. I used to watch Rainbow over and over several times a week just to here her sing. She put such raw emotion into her pieces that I could almost feel what she, or her character, was feeling. It makes me want to cry each time I hear this song now because of the way Andrea sang it at the end of "Rainbow: The story of Judy Garland." I wish I still had the video tape of this show - or a recording of all the songs. But, I'm very glad there's RUclips in order to hear Andrea's beautiful voice again as well as many other talented people.
PLS ADD DATE!
AMAZING!
ANDREA MCARDLE SHE CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO LIZA MINNELLI ON THIS SONG OF CABARET LIZA HAD MORE ELECTRICITY SINGING THIS SONG LIKE IT WAS WRITTEN JUST FOR LIZA MINNELLI.
Liza may have "sang" it better. But this direction is miles better than Fosse's in the film.
@@williamraveau6193 I LIKED ANDREA MCARDLE IN A SENSE BUT SHE IS NO LIZA MINNELLI SINGING THIS SONG THERE IS NO COMPARISON IM SORRY SHE NEED'S TO STICK WITH THE SONG TOMORROW FROM THE BROADWAY PLAY ANNIE BECAUSE THAT'S HER SIGNATURE SONG NOT CABARET SHE'S PATHETIC SINGING THIS SONG ENOUGH SAID.
Your opinion. Just because someone has a signature song doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate others versions. Andrea is undeniably talented and most love her.
@@jeffreymclaughlin1789 Typing in all caps doesn't make it true.
@@s.j.johnson1961 I DIDN'T SAY THAT ANDREA MCARDLE COULDN'T SING AND WASN'T TALENTED SHE CAN SING A WHOLE LOT BETTER THAN ME I COULDN'T EVEN CARRY A NOTE EVERYTIME I TRY SINGING WILD GEESE CHANGE DIRECTION'S.
LOVE HER!
Oh my god, Annie SNAPPED
Fu all
I'm a fan of hers, but this is amazingly awful. (PS This isn't supposed to be an anger song! Her affect is totally bizarre...as though she were singing in a foreign language she didn't understand! VERY strange...) Also, I wish she would relax her interpretations a bit -- her rigid adherence to the melodic line is reminiscent of a classical singer performing pop, creating a stale and corny presentation that feels insincere.
It actually is supposed to be an "anger song". Literally moments before this song she has an abortion. This song is the juxtaposition of So many things. She just had an abortion, Nazi Germany is conquering, yet here she is... singing about life being ajoy. it is supposed to be angry. do your research my friend.
MATT YOU SAID IT BRAVO SHE SUCK'S SINGING THIS SONG SHE CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO LIZA MINNELLI SINGING THIS THERE IS NO COMPARISON WHATSOEVER
@@williamraveau6193 100%! This is an incredibly dark show. Anger definitely fits with this song.
She is a woman who self sabotages her life and chooses hedonism knowing it will kill her ...but she can't help herself.. Sally has a death wish and consistently self destructs. Liza Minelli was too good for the role so you never really believe in the mediocre singer Sally is. In the Isherwood books she sings with a dark husky voice. She's not a star..she is deluded.
@@BlakeJAskewYes I heard that in another video.. they needed a good singer role so got Liza M - a great singer, but Sally is supposed to be a mediocre singer.
Annie all grown up.
Is it me or does this song sound kinda sad. It reminds me of the end of the world. I feel like they would play this song at the end of the world. Someone? Anyone? Do any of you agree?
AlexanderDeLargeSir! The show takes place right before the Nazi's took power in Germany, so in a way it is the end of the world for a lot of people there.
yep! that's the point of the song
that’s the poiny
I had the privilege of seeing her actually play Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. It was 1985 at the Melody Top in Milwaukee. She was amazing!
Wow, she is really the best
Where was this done?
i think she sounds great and has a good technique, her belts aren't strained at all but very powerful.
Hey I was in this production and would love to see more if you've got it. So would a lot of friends from the cast. Someone just shared some old Saigon videos and it was really a blast to re-live the moments. Anyways hope this finds you well.
I love this women! She's done everything
*woman
I DONT GO ON U TUBE OFTEN .... BUT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS , MEANS A WHOLE LOT TO ME . ANDREA
You are so amazing
Cookie-cutter PERFECT for this role!!!!! brilliance
If you truly are the real Andrea McArdle (so easy for someone to just say they are these days), I've loved you as Annie for as long as I can remember, but I have only just found your later work and am wondering why you are not more well known for your roles, like this? Everyone says Lea Salonga is the perfect Eponine, but hearing you sing it, you are every but her equal. I wish the was an album of your performance somewhere.
you are so incredible!!!!!
The beauty of just one perfect performance echoes through the decades. Thank you, Ms. Mcardle.
That voice is in shreds
You're nuts! But there were LOTS of mistakes, including those made by the band...what was with them? It sounded like it was thrown together at the last minute!!! And she seemed to lose her place in the song, for a moment. And I suppose someone who shouldn't have been filming actually got this clip, b/c the camera angle was miserable...And it'd be nice if she'd try a hairstyle she doesn't need to fiddle with every few minutes... Some of the notes sung in head voice that most would expect to hear her belt were unusually...low in volume and energy, yes? At one point, I thought her mike had cut out!!! Other than that, very nice! ;)
matt Apparently some of that was the sound...It wasn't good the first round of this so they had to do it a second time for the 70's and Sunny album
Saw her sing in Sarasota over Christmas beautiful voice and person !
she is the best
She is the best.
Andrea McArdle was born in Nov. 1963 - she couldn't have been 54 when she sang this.
54 Below is the name of the place.
Yes John is right. 54 is tha place
WOW...little Annie has grown up...fabulous and I would have loved to see her live..thanks for sharing
wow that was fantastic. I never new she did a production of cabaret.
love it... <3
Thanks for posting, she's one of my favorite voices ever!
awesome
andrea McArdle... ive wanted to BE her since she was Annie. I still do
Amazing!!
How is it possible you sound the same as you did 40 years ago??
This song is rarely done outside of high school productions of the show it comes from--"A Chorus Line" The story in the lyrics tugs at my heart. Andrea packs the punch --thanks for posting, bwaysgf, --this is the best rendition on RUclips of this hard hitting show tune.
Best version of this song! Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for posting but I wish she wasn't afraid to belt anymore.
Can you tell us what other songs she sang? Thanks.
Awesome! Post more please...
