Defrost door not opening when engaged. How to replace the gear without spending 1k at a dealer.

2013 Chevrolet Cruze LS with rough start or stalling issues.
Lol, this is not happening, I have a bluetti 180ac power station, gonna use a heat gun or hair dryer plugged into power station for defrost.😊

I just paid $774 for this problem, AC charge and wiper home position. I supplied the gear just because I knew. I just don't have time and rather work an OT day at work. Works mint along with the AC and wipers don't stop in the middle of the windshield windshield. Thank you for the video.
I recommend inviting your skinny buddy over to help.
What is the part number?
Great video. Just to add my 2 cents, you could just use JB weld to get that plastic piece back in place if you wanted to
I have 2015 Malibu and that’s a piece of cake compared to what I have to deal with😢
Hey I have 16 Malibu, and it’s the passenger side that is stuck. Not sure if there’s one on each side or if it’s just this one. Hoping I could get some helpful tips from your experience? I would appreciate any advice?
Great video, going to attempt this soon thanks 👍
Great video. Thanks for the help!
Thanks dude! Great fix! I did this on my 2012 Cruze. Worked like a charm!
Where did you buy the replacement?
Great video but wait until to try to change the bottom one (Gear lever) It's a monster
Does the large white gear cone all the way off?
This worked very well. Easy, quick fix to a known problem with the Cruze
How the heck did you get the lever back in behind the large white gear ? Holy cow.
Did u find a way to remove the lower level?
Yes, I don't get these guys pulling complete dashes. I didn't have to crack that center piece as I could fit my hand back there. Remove that 5.5mm nut and plate, pull gear out and install new gear. I realized that after I spent an afternoon taking half the dash out, on the first one I did. I wish I could fix 10 of these a day for 50.00 a pop. Lol. 1400 dealer quote. I just called to see what they were charging. Well, you have to remove the entire dash, blah, blah, blah. It's ridiculous what they do to take advantage of people.
I don't think my big white gear has the same stop which is that white peice sticking out of that main gear
Man that made it so much easier cutting that out!!! Thanks!
You're lucky it wasn't the other white gear behind the big white cog. Can only get it from the bottom, and its a bch... lol
what is the position of the lever that sits behind the big gear when on full defrost? Like, is it at a full 45 degrees or..?
I set the temperature controls to the main vents (blowing in your face). If you leave the defrost on I don’t believe it will sync with the smaller sprocket that opens the defrost. When you replace the broken gear/spline make sure the small plastic tab at the bottom is inside the groove that is on the backside of the largest gear. If you shine a light inside you can almost see it through the plastic. Once that tabs in place and you activate the defrost it will move the replaced gear and turn the defrost gear to open the door. Hope this helps.
Thanks for this video! It works! however I want to mention that for my 2011 Chevy Cruze, I finally needed a "calibration" of the door actuator motor. My friend came with a garage scanner, took 1 minute to complete the calibration. Reason: after replacing the parts (13263335 _ 11$ each), I cycled the different positions, but the gear motor was trying to go farter to complete his cycle, however was not possible. It looks like the small plastic gear were sliding/skipping teeth. The scanner allowed to "recalibrate" the door actuator motor. Thanks again! Cheers. Danny, Quebec, Canada
Happy to help. Glad you could get the gear calibration done. I was lucky enough my lined back up (one thing in life finally goes right.. lol).
I find this a little strange - Once you disengage the motor (black gear) from the large, white cam gear, you should be able to just set the motor to defrost - That will be all the way clockwise on the cam gear and you shouldn't have to calibrate it. I'm betting your friend knows more than I do, however.
@@bznbrian Thanks for your comment! Maybe I just went "unlucky" with my gears aligment ;-) At least people know they might need a door actuator calibration. Regards, Danny
Great video but I am struggling big time with getting all the gears synced up.
I like your style. I liked and subbed. Thanks for explaining this. Can't visualize how that lever fits in behind the big white wheel, but I am hoping it is self explanatory then once I get in there.
When you take the broken one off just match placement. Mine was straight up and down with gears at very top. I believe the the replacement part doesn’t even make contact with the small gear until it is activated. Just remember to put the new part on with the small tab side behind the big gear. The big gear has a grooved track that the defrost gear tab rides in. You can see it’s imprint on the front of the big gear. Hope that helps.
@@freggstersanna7068 Thanks for the input. I was visualizing a hole not a groove. We did it today. It's a bitch to get at with both hands and still see what you're doing. But it's done. What a goofy setup.
@@Glide1992 agree, and it’s insane how much a dealership wants to do it. Hope you’re back up and running and everything’s good.
@freggstersanna7068 just wondering if this works for the reverse, customer's car has heat out the defrost only and cold for anything else
Good
Nice mate, thanks. Wife’s car has zero defrost right now.
Santa fixes cars!!!!
I love jelly role
Try doing one or two 0-60's to see if that will slove the problem.
