Because don’t our scriptures show that throughout history there have been disobedient Jews that have been cast out from God and obedient Jews who listened to and followed God? And aren’t your Jews the ones right now who are being disobedient? And aren’t the Gentiles the ones being obedient?

What’s on Paul’s mind, as he transitions from 8 to 9, isn’t “what about the Jews?” And the correct answer ties in to that first concept you talked about, how it seems like Paul has built up to this magnificent crescendo in chapter 8, only to turn and take an emotional nose dive in chapter 9. Paul’s message in chapter 8, contrary to modern popular belief, is focused on the Gentiles in general. Also contrary to modern popular belief, his focus in chapter 9 is on unbelieving Jews. Paul remembers all the times he’s given the same speech he just finished in chapter 8 in all the synagogues over the land. And he remembers that it was always at this point, after he had explained that the Messiah had come and fulfilled the law, it was this last part where Paul explained that the Gentiles how had direct access, direct invitation to God’s kingdom and had all the blessings extolled in chapter 8, all the same blessings the Jews were already known to have, it was at this point in Paul’s speech that the unbelieving Jews in his audience always lost their minds. It was just then that they always tried to kill Paul. So in chapter 9, Paul turns and remembers everything he would say to those unbelieving Jews when they wanted to kill him. That’s his mindset as he transitions into chapter 9.
