Two dead redwood trees keeled over in my back yard. Unfortunately they were pretty rotten, but the stump and root was still pretty solid. I took it to my family's ranch and had my uncle mill it into slabs for me. In this video I make a bowl and some coasters. In the next video I'll make a charcuterie board and a cribbage board. Thanks for watching!

    Where did you buy the bigger replacement handle for the bucket and the bucket cover? What is the purpose in the bubbler? I think it just puts oxygen back in the water with water moving around. How much did the bucket cover cost and the larger handle.

    Great video! I'd be interested in what you would have in your summer kit (or for a warmer climate). In my area of Texas, I don't see much snow/ice. Everyone stays home when it's snowy/icy. That being said, I still prepare for cold weather in my car kit. However, candles aren't very feasible here because the wax would just melt in the car in warmer most (most of all of them!) Is there any hot weather specific gear that you can think of? Definitely having something to knee down on (like when changing a tire) is a must when the temp is in the triple digits. The road is HOT!

    This is a really great video, to be watched several times. Thank you also for the list in the description. Most of us already have items at home that we should put in our car instead of storing them in a cupboard, especially cloth and blankets. Ps: What do you think about canned food, it can freeze in a vehicle ( even several times) and Im not sure if it's still safe after. Take care.

    • @natureterp
      @natureterp Год назад

      Good question and good idea for another food source in the vehicle! After a quick search, it looks like canned food will still be safe as long as the seal isn't broken. According to the article the food just might have a different texture after freezing. For that I would just suggest rotating the stock occasionally - as one should with their indoor preps as well. Thanks for watching and commenting! .

      @@natureterp I had myself some cans of beans and fish, sardines and mackerels, in my van but noticed that in winter season they might freeze several times over night and unfreeze during day and that's something I dont trust in at all, especially with fish. I now take only freeze-dried meals, bags with nuts or biscuits etc that dont risk anything when temperature drop or rise. Or I protect the food in an isolated box or in my cloth and blanket bag. Take care. 👍

    So overall how would you rate the quality and look of the juniper for these projects? Were you able to sell them and have you made more since this video? I have the opportunity to purchase some juniper slabs but am not sure that juniper is a good wood for coasters and cutting boards, I would love to hear your thoughts before I make the purchase

    • @natureterp
      @natureterp Год назад

      Hey Brian! Sorry for the late reply. So far the charcuterie boards are working out great! Just to let you know though, juniper is a soft wood. I personally would not make a cutting board from it. I can dent it with my fingernail. And with constant use and washing with water it might be quicker to split eventually than hard woods. I oiled the top and bottom of the charcuterie boards with three coats and a final coat of conditioner on the top. There are tons of thin juniper scraps at my ranch. They've been out in the weather for years and haven't split. But juniper does turn gray if you don't oil or coat it. Coasters would be great for juniper. And give a cutting board a try if you want, of course. I'd love to hear how it works out. .

    LOL. I'm in Alaska. Been carrying this type of stuff for many years. For making a fire, I have a Map Gas Torch with Self Ignition. Press the button and you can set just about anything on fire. Funny part is you wouldn't believe how many people up here don't have any of this stuff. I remember seeing it on the news when they were searching for those people. I felt very bad for them.

    • @natureterp
      @natureterp Год назад

      That actually does surprise me that there are people up in the north 48 and in Alaska aren't very prepared for winter storms! I just drove from western Oregon to Central Oregon (a 5-hr trip in summer conditions) and took at least half of the stuff I listed in this video. I only ended up traveling about 20 miles in snow around Crater Lake and then the last 20 miles to my cabin. But you never know - even here in southern and Central Oregon. Great tip on the gas torch! I'll have to look into that. Would be great for the survival kit - but also sounds like it would be handy just to have in my shop! Thanks for the comment Mike! Alaska is the only state I haven't been to yet. I'm planning to drive up one of these years. Side note: It's so sad to see so many people dying in their cars (stranded) in this current storm hitting the eastern US. .

    • @natureterp
      @natureterp Год назад

      Thanks for watching and for the comment! Yep, that was epoxy resin. I get it on Amazon now in larger containers, but you can get it at Home Depot - smaller quantity but a bit more expensive per ounce. I just get the stuff that is a 1-1 ratio so I don't have to do math. I live in Oregon so the sand is just from one of my trips to the coast. I have gotten sand at places like Michaels though - finer grain and different colors. I used that on my train village. ruclips.net/video/2l8a8KAoByw/видео.html Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas! .

    DON'T USE THE EDGE OF YOUR KNIFE! Use the flat backside to run across the ferro rod. Using the edge WILL make the knife useless as a cutting tool over time. It WILL damage the blade to the point it can't be brought back with a sharpener. NOW...if it's ALL you have then go for it, otherwise, use the backside/flat part of the blade or the scraper that comes with the ferro rod. Has been a good video though. Thank you. You have given me a few ideas to boost what I already have stored for a FUBAR.

    Trauma stuff in the car in case, separate from bobo stuff. ABC fire extinguisher in vehicle (yes it will make a mess). Yes, stay with the car, though not necessarily in it. Winter tent, trench might be warmer with good bag and pad (Wiggy's). Clothing chosen as totally independent shelter for the prevailing conditions. Walk only if certain it will improve your situation. Ruck with tent bag pad, high calory, high fat, high protein, easily digested tastes great no cook food, water and an efficient method of backfilling stores, adequate for 3-4 days independent. to include crampons/snowshoes/skis. Inside, outside, walking.
