Drive from Buffalo to Chicago (stopped in Indiana).
A snow filled drive from Buffalo to Chicago. Unfortunately I had to stop recording in Indiana as it was just too dangerous and I wasn't focusing enough on the road. However plenty of accidents and spinouts.

    I think it is all subjective. It sounds like you had a bad experience. I have three hernias and my surgeon has given me 3 options. Leave everything as it is but in this situation they will only get worse. The next option is open surgery which will be more painful with a longer recovery. We have opted for laparoscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair with mesh and just a single stitch for the umbilical. This seems to be the most unintrusive procedure with the least post-operative pain and a faster recovery time. I have based my decision on watching other RUclips videos and other research. I think you are absolutely correct to suggest researching the situation and creating a plan with your surgeon which will be best for you even though they cannot make specific recommendations.

    • @JoeLogan1
      @JoeLogan1 18 часов назад

      This is true. Some people have a high pain tolerance as well and have zero fear walking into situations like this. I did get feedback that the laparoscopic couldn't carry a larger mesh if needed. But starting to think that it may have been surgeon limitations.

    • @animalsdrumpage9997
      @animalsdrumpage9997 18 часов назад

      @@JoeLogan1 that's a good point and I'm not sure how restrictive the mesh size is but the tubes are quite small so that could possibly be an issue. I have watched several videos of the actual surgical procedure and they seem to roll the mesh up to insert it through the tube then flatten it out once it's actually over the hernia itself. It's very difficult to give the right opinions or advice when I'm not a surgeon myself and of course everybody is different and their circumstances are individual.

Tylenol was the only pain reliever I used, was prescribed opioids but didn’t want to use. Took miralax for first 2 weeks as I wanted to keep my bowels moving smoothly. Just can’t rush recovery!! @jlogbusiness 25 дней назад

      I think I recall them telling me there is a risk of causing bowl infection if the mesh moves, but the percentage of incidents where this happen was quite exceptional. However if the hole is small enough they probably don’t need mesh. In fact when I went in they were going to try and avoid mesh but when they went in they said my hole was pretty large.

    @anooptickoo2061 28 дней назад

    Open surgery is more effective, better and safe compared to laparoscopic surgery if you have hernia on one side and mesh is placed outside peritoneum not inside which is better only recovery time is slightly longer.

    • @jlogbusiness
      @jlogbusiness 23 дня назад

      I was initially upset when I heard that there was a laparoscopic option and wasn't told about it. I think I found out about it a few days before the surgery and my initial research seemed positive about it. But since then, and like you said, if the mesh is placed outside it has more risk of reoccurring so I'm definitely very glad I didn't go that route. I think I was initially upset because the lapro sounded much less painful.

    Hey I'm going to Boston on the 14th from Chicago too, I'll be by myself in a airbnb rental. Any advice? How long before you flew back or recommend flying back? Booking my flights and airbnb apartment this week so I can shop for food day before surgery there.

    • @jlogbusiness
      @jlogbusiness 4 месяца назад

      I didn't feel like I could fly back until 2 weeks. I had my surgery on a Thursday, and didn't fly out until two weeks after that on the Thursday. Doing things like putting and getting your luggage from the overhead compartment, putting and getting your bag from under the seat in front of you, sitting and standing in that cramped seat if you are not in business class, taking your shoes off if you don't have NEXUS, etc. Things like that are normally not given a second thought but if I would have tried the first week it would have been very painful. Even the second week, I was being careful because I know any strain would still give me some pain. Regarding being by yourself, I would get your groceries sorted before the surgery. Eggs, fruit, fibrous foods like broccoli and almonds. Make sure you have enough for the week so you don't have to worry about shopping. Also make sure you get out and walk. I can't tell you how important that is to keep the blood flowing and improve your spirits. For me walking didn't hurt much so that really helped me.

    I had a double inguinal hernia since my 20s. I'm in my early 50s now, and decided 2 weeks ago to have them repaired. I had been managing it properly for many years. I had no pain, but the buldges were very noticeable. I work for a lumber yard and drive a truck. It's a lot of physical work. I was warned to have them repaired, bc they would only get worse eventually. So 2 weeks after open surgery, I stll have pain and numbness; not unbearable though. You must get off your ass and start walking. I was walking the neighborhood very carefully after 3 days. I believe that really promotes healing. Like you said, sitting and laying down for a long time, makes it hurt more when you get up. When you exert yourself more than you maybe should, put ice on it. Ice it when you rest. Keep the inflammation down. One key thing is, dont eat junk food. Take the stool softeners, and make sure you don't stuff your face; especially if you're not taking regular shits. Passing your bowels will not be pleasant at 1st, but you must stay regular. Be very mindful of what you eat. That will make all the difference. Keep moving, apply ice, don't overeat. Open surgery might be the better option. Also, like you said, research the surgeon

Had my follow up yesterday and told my Dr and he said it should go away in another week or so but if not call him and he will check me out!!! Also very tender to the touch! Today (day 14) post-op, it's much better. Still tender but not as intense! I had to walk like Fred G. Sanford aka Redd Fox! Best to you!!!

    Do you prefer going via Cleveland or via Canada?

    • @jlogbusiness
      @jlogbusiness 11 месяцев назад

      The Cleveland route is slightly faster, but the speed traps are abundant. The only ticket I got was coming back through Ohio near Toledo. However, during the winter months, the potholes could really cause damage especially with a car like mine where I have low profile tires. Enjoy going through Canada as well. It is a bit longer, but I enjoy going through the border crossings in Detroit as well as in Niagara Falls. They’re all also some nice restaurants in Fort Erie that I enjoy. The roads are definitely much better. I don’t remember ever running across a pothole in Canada. Plus, I don’t think I’ve ever seen, a dead animal like a deer on the road in Canada. They’re all over the place in the US route.

      @@jlogbusiness Nice video. I live in Toronto and whenever the Blue Jays are playing White Sox home games we head out straight to Chicago through Detroit, nice drive, all freeways. We guys go to the ball games, the wives go shopping and pick us up later. Never saw a dead deer, however in several wooded areas there are deer crossing warning road signs, during their mating season. A new 6 billion dollar bridge across the St Clair River between Windsor and Detroit is scheduled for completion, summer of 2025. It's a beauty, lifespan is 100 years. New construction wrinkle. It's nonstop drone coverage with voice over narrations explaining what's going on Neat and interesting.

    Hey, I’m doing a roadtrip on this weekend from chicago to new york, any tips for the trip?

    • @jlogbusiness
      @jlogbusiness Год назад

      Are you in downtown Chicago or in the suburbs? If you are in the suburbs, tray and leave after 9AM and before 11AM. The part below the city all the way to Gary could be bad traffic if you leave after 11. Ideally you would want to leave around 6AM and you will get to NY around 8:30PM EST. The 90 will pretty much take you all the way. You will get to see downtown Cleveland . The Ohio Turnpike is crawling with state troopers so keep close eyes on Waze if you can and ensure you have voice alerts on. For some reason you can get rain storms which are really difficult to drive through. Both slippery and reduced visibility. Especially in the area between Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. Enjoy the drive!

      @@alfredoarreguin6454 I love Google Maps. I use it locally all the time. However I tried adding police alerts on Google Maps and it wasn't able to. For me (as you can see from how I drive) I need to have police alerts and am only able to do that on Waze. If you pay attention to the speed limits and always stay within those limits no worries at all. I would love your feedback on how Google Maps directs you from the west suburbs. Waze always takes me around the city on the 294. My BMW navigation always recommends going straight through downtown. Both can cause major delays but interested in what Google things. When are you going?

    Been using Delta Sonic for years until August of this year when they damaged my Ford Explorer ST. One of the rotary cleaning brushes got caught and damaged my roof rack. At the time I didn’t know this was a regular occurrence at Delta, guess I should have because as I waited from them to write up a claim, another customer was there complaining that a month ago it happened to him and nothing is resolved. Little did I know that months later, I find myself in the same situation. Plenty of emails back and forth, but they quoted Penny’s on the dollar to have it fixed. Still waiting and they don’t care. If you own a SUV or any vehicle with a roof rail system, DONT go to Delta Sonic, as they will damage your vehicle no matter what your new vehicle costs, and they will be all nice and emailed but do nothing to fix it. Very sad! Very disappointed and NEVER going back again. !!! Avoid at all cost!!! Unless you want your 70k vehicle damaged and not fixed!!!
