I was having trouble getting the gear completely stowed, so throughout the flight I was cycling the gear. When I put out the gear for landing, within a second, the jet rolled over without input and dove in for it's gloomy fate.

I decided to document my landings this year on this awesome 2.6 meter jet. I maidened it in July and put her away at the end of September with 30 flights inbetween. The landings are certainly not all oil paintings but I have my favourites: no.17 and no.28 are up there. What do you think? Which is the best? Which is the worst? Leave a comment with your choices

I should have remembered that I was flying a warbird and not a sport jet when it came to the landing part. Jetfan 110 with HET 790kv motor running 14s Powerbox iGyro Sat Functional leading edge slats and air brakes

AF is literally THE WORST
The worst feeling
Nice airplane, I had two. Both had gear problems and both went out of control and crashed for no foreseeable reason. This plane is notorious for tip stalling if you get too slow. I've had much better luck with the L39 and MB339. No more T45s for me.
I can second the 339 and its gear. Dropped the thing from 5 feet up and it bounced, thing is built like a tank.

Great job with your maiden and congratulations. I do advise that be careful when coming in with brakes on. What happens is the instant the mains touch the ground it will try to stop your jet as soon as possible which forces your nose gear to touch down sooner. If you came in fast enough it will slam the nose gear down and cause you to bounce back up in the air. Allow all three gears to touch down then brakes.

Thanks. The runway is almost 500 ft, so sport jets have no issues usually
If in doubt these guys engage in ma-name calling. Not exactly the sort of "adults" one would want their children around plating with little toys.

Ya I’m not a fan of having a conversation. You can tell, it takes me a bit to answer and speaking slowly
Close call, but you got her down safe and sound. Very well done 👍🏻 to be honest it was probably better you didn’t know about it until you had landed.
Whoever shot this needs to invest in a real lens with some reach and a real fluid head.

Well, nothing damaged thank god, but this shows you that putting too much stuff in from different manufactures, although in theory it should work, it mostly causes issues. I Do not understand why you do not use all powerbox, so everything works without any issues...... Putting a throttle signal through a 3rd party device is risky in my view..... But hey, you saved it! Well done! Not even a ground loop.... Thumbs up!

Low voltage to blue box. Reset under 3 volts. I had tested this on multiple jets. When flaps / gear and lights. Are on a normal 3 min flight. Volts drop
How many flights on the model before this?

Can I buy it? I would love to rebuild it and try to get it flying again.
It’s already become a donor jet. All the useable parts have been removed and the foam was disposed of. The jet was beyond repair

I had two AF Models T-45s. Both had gear problems and both crashed for no reason. Have a friend with the same experience. This model is notorious for tip stalling if it gets too slow on landing. Had much better luck with their L-39 and MB-339.

The gear getting stuck causes a big voltage drop. My BEC blew due to a stuck gear. This happened to me with the Freewing F-16. I now use a separate receiver battery, and upgraded ESC and make sure the gears are always perfect on any plane I fly. Stock esc cannot handle the abuse of anything going wrong.
This jet had a separate power system run on 2x 2s 2550mah, but I was thinking the same as you that it had something to do with the gear
I NEVER trust a Foamy stock (cheap) ESC if I like flying the plane at all. I always replace them if I didn't build the model myself.
@@scotabot7826 UBEC was stock utilizing 2x 2550mah 2s batts, but the ESC is mine, a Hobbywing 160A V5
I know that retracts are cool, but it seems that they all have some kind of problem, so I have never got a plane with retracts, plus I only have a 6 channel, but good too know.
Sharp vertical turn with gear going down is a recipe for a stall.
There was zero stick input when the jet decided to roll over
@@FrozenNorthRC Yeah, unfortunately, this was a stall situation. I too wouldn't imagine it to be so unforgiving. Brutal. I can see where you tried to get it back, but it was too late.
Did the gear issue cause a brownout? That is my worst fear of flying. What RX/TX gear were you using?
Powerbox Core and Powerbox 9 & 7 channel receivers. A brown out was what I checked the logs for but could not find any sign of an electrical problems. Radio connection was 100% as well.
Yes people do not realize that the electric gears draw so much amps that actually brown out the rx, I use Inav and I do isolate the gears power wires only signal goes into the receiver with ground for positive I use another batterie, I did a test on the ground and cycle the gear and in one of those retractions, the plane when crazy and no only that wipe out the complete setup of the flight controller like I never saw before, so yes those retracts draw so much amps all goes down after that.
That's why you run a seperate reciever (radio) battery in a plane this size and larger.

I had something like that happen to me with a turbine on take off, as soon as I put the gear up the plane with into a right hand bank and I couldn't get out of it. It circle around the field then crash in the middle of the runway where I had. The only think I could think of. Did the flaps change direction one higher or lower then the other or did the aileron change direction. I wasn't in a turn with this all happen. Yeah man I know your pain.

I have this jet and noticed the right wing connector for the servos barely makes contact with the wing screwed in. @FrozenNorthRC
Flights 28,29 and 30 were the best and landing were a little slower. Looks like your dropping the elevator stick to soon on some of the other landing but it all take practice and learning your aircraft, your getting there. I have two flying buddies that have the same plane and I see them slow walk that plane in on landing. Have seen them do really slow passes with it. Have a couple of there flights on my page. Nice bird enjoy.
Nice compilation with the music from two steps. Id love to see how you set up your internals and did your layout. What batteries were you using? I used a Jetfan echo in mine on 12s, Spektrum 10ch powersafe with hitec digital servos. Great flying!
Most of the time I fly with 2x SMC 7s 8000mah which weigh 1025g each
@@FrozenNorthRC thanks for tgat. Typically I fly Roaring top 6250s and I have been looking for a bigger battery that doesn't weigh a substantial amount more.

Are you seriously getting over 7 mins of flight time on this setup ?
With the 8000 mah setup, spirited flight is always over 6min and a relaxing flight will be over 7min

I’ll mostly fly two smc 8000mah 7s batteries that weigh 2050g total. I’m sorry I forget how much it weighs total.

Nice! You need to slow it down some more on short final and more flair to get it slow at touchdown they land very nicely and slow. Enjoy !

Thanks! This jet wants to land so slow but you think to yourself-don’t get too slow! There is a fine edge which I think I was better at judging in the later flights

Yup. Just before touch down I goosed the throttle but obviously too little too late. Next time!
