Tune in here for a back stage pass as to what it's really like to be a lavender farmer, especially if you live in a cold climate.
De-leafing English Lavender varieties
As it is in the lavender farming and processing world, everyone has their own style of doing the necessary things.
The English varieties tend to have many leaves at the bottom of the stem. When bundling them into bunches those leaves can make a finished bunch look down right unpresentable, the base of the bunch wider than the flowering tops.
What to do?
De-leaf!
Some producers dry the lavender in small bunches, box them up for storage and then deal with it per order. Frankly, it causes me anxiety knowing I'm gonna have to re-do anything, and knowing that there's piles and piles of it stashed away out of sight just adds to that anxiety.
In their case, they'd get an order, say for 10 bunches....

Lavender Wand / Fuseau Easiest method you'll ever find!
Просмотров 9547 месяцев назад
I have been crafting lavender wands since even before I began farming the herb in 2001. There are many people teaching how to make them but I guarantee this is the easiest pattern you will find anywhere! And once you hold in your hand the first one you make, then you can experiment with modifications: different width of ribbon, different weave patterns. The only time I could ever find to make t...

Lavender Lori's Sift Kit Introducing and Unpacking
Просмотров 318 месяцев назад
I'd like to introduce you to the Sift Kit. After 20 years of sifting lavender into buds using a tired outdated inefficient technique I spent the winter crafting a kit that can be easily transported to anywhere you need it. This is markedly innovative and so much more efficient; it literally brings light and ease to a chore that can be dreaded by most purveyors of lavender. The buds go into ever...
Big Life Tiny House #3 Organization Update
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Last fall when I brought in the harvest just before a severe cold bout you got to see (in #2 episode) what a freaking wreck the inside of my 8x12 ft domicile was. It's taken all winter but the grand organization is complete! Enjoy this tour.
Lavender, Use Every Last Bit
Просмотров 3211 месяцев назад
Permaculture at its finest. Closed loop systems, every part holds value, much of it untapped in this industry. I've always been resourceful, and I've always lived in places with long cold winters. That combo gives a woman a lot of time to think and scheme. I give you an idea here, how lavender is used from the storage box to traditional uses and various alternative ones I've developed along my ...
Off Grid Tiny 60 yr Old Woman Chopping a Difficult Chunk
Просмотров 35811 месяцев назад
Solo off gridder, 60 yr old woman chopping wood for the night fire. Old quarter round of tight grained Siberian elm. Getting crafty splitting pieces without a maul, that'll fit in my small Jotul. For some weird reason this every-day ritual riles the cats into daredevil frenzy. This might be the most excitement they experience in a day. They, especially the girl cat Elspeth thinks it's super fun...

If you tuned in to the previous video in my Big Life Tiny House #1 playlist you saw the utter chaos that resulted from emergency harvest of all that was left outside brought inside before a single digit freeze and 7 inches of snow. This truly tiny off grid domicile measures 8ft x 12ft, which is really 7ft x 11ft on the inside now isn't it. Counter space is a creatively used small bathroom vanit...

OMGs Soooo cute Lori 🥰 all the fur babies 💖
Ha ha. Tammy. We Lovvvve Tammy. 👀
Very cool. I need to grow more lavender.
Super adorbs ❤❤❤
Such a cute fur baby 🖤🐈⬛🖤
The cutest thing I’ve seen all week 🥹🫶🏾
Such a cute kitty 💖 Love the (re)organization 🌿🪻🌿
Thanks sister. You had butterflies on your face ;-)
🪻🪻🪻🪻🪻
Love you LL!💜
@heidipeterson6752 Right back atcha sister!♡
Sweetie, your stance is SO WRONG! Get those legs apart. If you’re misaligned and slip, that axe will hit your leg! You must stand with feet apart enough that a miss doesn’t hit your leg! This is a very common and dangerous practice!
Thanks so much. Somehow I've managed not to for a decade. But thanks for caring
Also, there’s a way better technique to getting an embedded axe out of a stump……
A lavender-lined path...fabulous! HL❤
I love it Lori - the "shit doesn't stink" when using lavender straw with compost toilets🪻 My friend in Ireland uses hay and doesn't have issues but I bet lavender is even better 😅 Nice path liner too, avoid mud and weeds. Brilliant 🧝♀️💜💎
😊 ❤
OMGs I love this Lori! Great job even with those tricky fur babies 💜🐈🐾🐈⬛🔥 Stay warm!
😂😂😂😂😂
So cool! We have a tiny bit growing in the backyard so next year I'll pick your brain on harvesting it!
Stephanie, I wrote a book about growing it available on my website and I'll be sharing more how-to videos on this channel. I hope to create some other insider info videos for those who want to contribute in a monetary way. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching.
Wow - you have made a lot of progress Lori - you are so inventive! Interestingly, I ran into an organizing video series, wherein she named the different types of organizers after insects ("clutterbug"). The systems are a mix of: 1. Stuff visible, or stuff covered up; and 2. Stuff generally organized, and Stuff micro-organized. Turns out most professional organizers want micro-organized stuff covered up. I am a "Butterfly" which is wanting all of your things visible, and more generally organized. I think you might be like that also! In fact, I think most artist types are this way! Big life in tigher quarters needs creativity for sure! 😍
Thanks for those ideas Lisa! And for tuning in! 'Hiding' space is at bare minimum, so most all micro and macro will be right out in the wide open. I look forward to showing you in person when you come visit!
Abundance!!!!☺️💕
Hey sister! Thanks for watching. I envision you knitting away. I just made an update of some organizational projects going on in my tiny abode. I love you thanks for tuning in!
I love seeing inside your cozy home! You are a master of utilizing above head space….it inspires me! Love you LL!💖
Beautiful Lori 💜💜💜
Whoa 😮 no I can't say I have! 😂
OMGs Lori 💜💜💜 Incredible 🥰
Looks fun
You must be a pyro
Lol at all that lavender! 🤠
Serious, I've been wanting to rig up a tippy-tap...a permaculturist down Tucson way, Brad Lancaster but this looks way less involved.
@@LavenderLori406 I meant to say look
Really good stuff. I’ve just started messing with electroculture this year and it has paid off fairly well I’m in zone eight in deep South Alabama and already had tomatoes as of 1 May
Cool, who do you learn it from? I'm installing all kinds of experiments and definitely seeing results! But have to wait til August for tomatoes! I'm in zone 5 western Montana.
i have been boing this for years. wind the copper wire in a clockwise direction in northern hemisphere. Yours is counterclockwise? Also put it in the south side of the plant you get about 3 feet. My experience only. Much love.
I have since learned that it is wound as any snail shell, from the sky to ground go clockwise.
I have also been playing with this and have had amazing results in last 30 days! I got a copy of Justin Christofleau’s book, it’s verrry interesting!!! I’m hooked! 🙏🏼✨💜
Why doesn’t aluminum work it is used in electrical wiring everywhere?
Aluminum is best for the Ighina Spirals. It is my understanding that it is the least conductive of the metals. It'll work, just not as effective as copper or galvanized steel. Since we are dealing with the aether or intention is equally important when making spirals.
So cool! No wonder essential oils are expensive, it's quite a process!
It is! But fun, like a big chemistry set. Thanks for watching!
