I would like to think of this as a second phase of a fight against Noelle. First phase, the Thorn Ring and a Control Crown get fused by an imprisoned Malius, and the antagonist puts the fusion on Noelle. Second phase, Noelle starts to resist, allowing you to take the fusion off of her.
