Not only is it better to have drills and skills that match the game but kids especially learn faster when they're having fun. If you're coaching mites, don't do stationary stick handling or handling between cones. Play knockout, or 1 v 1 keep away, you not only work on stick handling in a more game like setting but you also teach good habits like keeping your head up and skating to open ice.

The problem with the guy who doesn't play hard is yes you're correct.. that guy may be your best option on the power play but he hurts your team in 5 on 5 hockey. Doesn't matter if you score 3 goals if 4 are scored on you lol

Wing and defence the longest, but now im mostly centre being the more experienced guy on the team and im trying to expand my knowledge and understanding of the position as its not quite as natural for me… i thought this was a good start - thanks

Gym training is so excellent. But the problem I found was that if you want to train for a sport-hockey-there’s so much fluff out there if you want to pay someone to train you. I was very surprised to come across several organizations whose training philosophy and practices offer very low efficiency for strength and agility as pertains to hockey. For example, one trainer was convinced that plyometrics could simply be substituted in place of high intensity strength training. And he does this because his hockey athletes don’t usually have enough time to spend doing Olympic lifts to get the right posture and then progress in that. He doesn’t seem to understand that these two things work in different ways and should be employed in tandem. And this is an expensive training facility that works with hockey players. And if you had no knowledge of athletic training, as a parent, you would waste thousands on something like this. It’s not that this training offers no benefit. It’s just very low efficiency by comparison to what can be done. So the comment I’d like to make for anyone looking into this, is educate yourself about fitness science, and athletic training. Don’t let the dude who’s trying to sell you a package be your only source of knowledge on the subject.

This is crazy hard. 12-15yr old (mostly?) shouldn't be in the gym apart from cardio. It's also super difficult to disagree or even know if these experts (with gyms filled with prospects) are any good. There are too many 'high end' kids going to these. Aaaand then you have coaches or their 'appointed' gyms. Good luck making a team if you say 'no' if your a bubble kid.

Austin’s contract pays him 94% in signing bonus which leaves him $775,000 a year in salary but a cap hit of 13 mil. Normally I’d let your troll comment slide but I was in a mood this evening. For all of you as confused as me on the Escrow here you go. Also Andy was right, the first year of the CBA was 20% The National Hockey League (NHL) uses escrow fees to ensure that the revenue split between players and owners is 50/50. Escrow is a percentage of a player's salary that is withheld and put into a bank account. The amount withheld is determined at the start of each season, and can be adjusted after each quarter. Here's how escrow works: Withhold: At the beginning of each season, the league withholds a percentage of each player's salary. Pool: The withheld money is put into a bank account. Adjust: If the league's share of revenue is below 50% at the end of the year, money is taken from the escrow pool to make up the difference. If the league's share is above 50%, the extra money is given to the players as a bonus. Return: Any money left over in the escrow pool is returned to the players. Escrow is used as a safety net when revenue forecasts are off and the players' contract money would give them a larger share of the revenue. Players generally dislike escrow because it means they lose a percentage of their salary. The amount of escrow withheld varies from season to season: 2020-21: 20% 2021-22: 17% 2022-23: 10% Final three seasons of the CBA: 6%

The biggest thing is that he's so worried that he plays too defensive as a defenseman. This video has truly helped me out, as well as my son, with some great advice! Thank you

This isnt a debate man. #66 and #99 were guys I watched in my youth. Those guys were very dominant on the ice. Not too mention some of the Europeans like Selanne and Jagr. Many more. DIFFERENT ERA. The equipment today is much better. Sticks built for snipers. To actually think #99 wouldn't be is the most dumbest thing you can say. Its an immature analogy that a kid or a 20 year old would say. In my opinion I prefer watching games from when I was a kid then today. Guys dont crash tha net anymore. Hardle any 3-1 2-1. Goalies are too robotic and boring. I prefer the acrobatic saves. Hardly any bone crushing clean hits anymore. The game is worse today esp with the cap.

Sure if you want your kids to hate hockey, I would say this is a bad idea for kids under 13, early age should just be about your friends and the love of the game and fun, by the time they early teens they should be able to discern if they wish to continue playing hockey or maybe do something else.

Most lower level hockey coaches are overweight fat jock wannabees with overinflated egos. There's a lot of favoritism and racism in lower level Sports - especially blue States. (I don't do politics) Every time there's a political trend, parents interject their politics into kids sports. These are the wannabes that got a boo boo in 8th grade that prevented them from being a Hall of famer They live vicariously through their children because they have no lives

I think a trap that a lot of people fall into is chasing the name... sometimes someone who has very little experience playing a sport can be a much better teacher to youth than someone who played pro level. There's more recency a lot of times with them learning a technique which makes it more relatable and easier to teach a kid that very same technique
