Baker Lake 2023 Highlights

We fished for 3 mornings. Day 1, 2 limits = 10 Sockeye Day 2, 1.5 limits = 8 Sockeye Day 3, 2 Limits = 10 Sockeye We stayed at 45 feet to 55 Feet for Depth. We used Downriggers and custom flys I made on 8" leaders. They were all tipped with coon shrimp. Double Dodgers and Slim Blade Dodgers. Speed is always the same .8 to .9 speed. Hope you all enjoy our adventure. :)

Baker Laker Sockeye Opener 2023 My first time fishing Baker for Sockeye in my Oldtown Sportsman PDl Kayak .....so crazy fun! Epic adventure! Super fun day, late start at Lake Cavanaugh. But the smallest on our limits of kokanee was 15.5 biggest was 17.5....good day. Really busy. Love the new upgraded boat launch. thanks for watching! :)

Super fun day got two limits with my son. We wanted to try the new mod for having a Tadem-style kayak. Fishing was excellent which was such a bonus. Tight lines! :)

What a fun morning. Fast limit's of Kokanee in 45 minutes. Not including the new launch at Lake Cavanaugh. I stayed at 27' deep with a 30' line out on the downrigger. The dropper I used was 2oz at 55' out. Hope you enjoy the video. PS; yes I upgraded my kayak trailer with a fish tube and a new top rack. :)

We had the best adventure at Baker Laker for Sockeye Fishing this year. We stayed at Swift Creek campground and we have seen so many awesome Anglers and long-time friends too. The fish are nice this year. Lots in the 14" range. I love the chaotic kokanee fishing when you have 3 rods down and only 2 people.

What kind of spinner were you using, and what is your recipe for curing the maggots? Also, how many feet behind your downrigger and dropper weight?

20 feet off the clip for the downrigger. The dropper weight was 2 oz, and 55 feet out on the dropper.
As for the spinner, it was custom, size #00 - Colorado hammered SPINNER BLADE with 3 beads to 2 Gamakatsu hooks.

Kokanee setup for rods and reels. Change out main line to 20 lb.

At that boat launch, do you need to have a trailer to park there or can you park a car or a van? I have an inflatable paddle ski which don't need a trailer. Also, for your slider clip, so you just let it slide between your rod tip to the Barrell swivel? Thanks
No you do not need a trail, park car is fine. Yes I add bead before the tie to slip setup.
Nice Video! So for the bead, you don't need to put one going from your main line to the slider? I see that you put it after the slider. Thought you would need one so that it doesn't affect the eye at the end of the rod. So you used this set up for king salmon? How much weight do you use to get it down for those kings? Can this set up work for fishing in the puget sound? Thanks
I add bead to main. If I was king fishing using alip I add 8 to 10 Oz. Mostly use the dropper for Columbia River king fishing. I usually do the downrigger for salt setup.
We're you using down riggers on both of your rods? How far down did you go with the lures?
Downrigger on one side, and 2oz dropper on the other. I was staying at 34' to 40'

I was in the front launch area in the early morning, then shifted under the bridge area next. Trolling 1.2 to 1.5 speed

Morons long lining gear and sweeps in front of you. Two things here, they do it on purpose to steal people's gear or they are just stupid. I vote both. Hope my boat doesn't run into these yahoos this summer.
Can shrink tubing be re-shrunk if it starts to stretch or come loose over time?
I'm up to 6 years....lots and lots fish on my rods. Stays in place with no change. Hope that helps.
@@PacificNWfishingadventures so if I apply the proper amount of heat I can actually reshrink it you're saying? I have an ugly stick catfish special. Those rods come with shrink tubing on the foregrip and the rear grip. But it appears like water has been slowly getting underneath near the trigger handle at the top of the rear grip. It's starting to separate. So I was debating on trying to inject some glue under that and then wrap it with some tape until the glue cures or just a try applying heat with a high-powered hair dryer to see if I can get it to reshrink without melting it. Let me know if either way is going to be the most effective. Thanks!

If im not mistaken, the vessel on right has the "right of way". Land or sea i believe this is the case
I hear what you are saying. Regardless, having 200 feet dropper line out your back, by knowing this is your setup. You are responsible to look out for any boat around you. Not including using 2 3barb rigs setup, that alone is illegal. All boaters are responsible and to be aware of all surroundings. I appreciate your input.
Combat fishing is just the worst. Dramatically increases your chances of running into jerks like this.

get his boat number call Fish and Game - they are always happy to explain the rule and offer tickets to help fund wild live - have their numbers on my phone!!!!!
He performed many violations operating that boat and fishing , For sure with that video and getting his registration number in British Columbia we would have called the Department of Fisheries and oceans conservation officers and passed on a copy of the video , Or the nearest local police like the RCMP who could also enforce Fishing and Boating violations and could be waiting for the guy at the boat ramp ,
Sockeye and chinook from shore on a crowded popular bar on the Fraser river.....an alone guy across the river from 100 guys starts casting almost to our feet, snagged a few guys and was giving lip when asked why....snagged my line and when i pulled him in he had 2 barbed hooks with a weight 1 foot from them on a long leader....cut it and happened to have a good camera and took pics. starts mouthing again....i keep,a slingshot to get seals out of the pool.....drilled him hard in the head with a 42 caliber old school splitshot....he sat down for awhile and left

@@PacificNWfishingadventures we make the slingshot bullets melting lead and using an old jig mold then cut the flue off due to no hook....touch em up on a file and they are savage....can imbed them in pine boards.....the shot was at least 35 to 40 yards.....I have killed a racoon from 25 feet in the side of the head that kept coming after my cat. With the right ammo slings are weapons...being perfectly round with the weight they are very accurate Never had to hit a seal more than once to have him swim downriver The mold also can make .22 and .32 caliber which are perfect for grouse and squirrels etc Fishing and camping during goose season I dropped a goose by using three .42 lead balls together....we cooked him in parts with tinfoil on coals It's an armbrace slingshot with heavy aftermarket tapered rubber bands .....many meals provided while hiking on multi-day trips 42 years using a slingshot from 8 or 9 years old....I've gotten pretty good I hunted my whole life, ran trapline, doing pest control for 17 years and was a butcher in a slaughterhouse from 15 to 28

I’m over the combat fisheries at Baker, Brewster, etc. I fish to relax and it’s just added stress. You’ll find me Bass or Kokanee fishing during this time of year, get the whole lake to myself.

Was drift fishing from a boat with several guys for steelhead on a river. A guy comes around us pulling plugs and hooked back in front of us. They hooked all of our gear and a guy bobber fishing from the bank. A big rats nest of 9 lines. The guy on the bank thinks he has a fish and starts yanking. The guy and his buddies dragging plugs think they have fish so they all start yanking. Our jigs are below the boat so we all reel in including their stuff. My buddy is trying to untangle everyone. The guy on the bank was yanking, the guys trolling are yanking. I reached over with my knife and cut everyone's line. All 9 of them. We rigged our lines back up and went back to fishing. Got 4 wiggle warts and a jig out of it
