Marjolene’s Muse
Добавлен 9 ноя 2012
Welcome to my channel.
My name is Marjolein van Ammers.
Being a professional piano teacher for over forty years, I feel more like a multi-instrumentalist since I started this account in 2012.
Besides Piano I play the Harpsichord, Portative Organ and since the pandemic of 2020 the world of Framedrum and Native American Style Flute opened up to me, thanks to online courses.
As for many others, internet has totally changed my life.
More recently, during 2024 I came accross the Ancient Greek Lyre and the very first existing melodies in the world.
I feel the time has come to share my latest creations and interpretations with the world.
Thank you for listening and watching!

Wise dark gaze, voice of quiet or roar. From earth’s beginnings and before, he rises from sleep, shaking self, awakening to purpose. Powerful body, mind, deceptively mellow roamer, loner, exiting dark den to walk the forest floor through dense growth that parts before him. Shambling, steps from cliff overhung with vine to walk among the stars and through dreams guiding his children round danger...

From the beginning there were drums, beating out world rhythm. The booming, never failing tide on the beach. The four seasons gliding smoothly, one from the other. When the birds come, when they go. The bear hibernating, awakening from winter sleep. These rhythms, transcribed by Tommy Brunjes and Layne Redmond, are part of their “Giving Birth to Ourselves” Framedrum Intensive program. These teachings are now passed on by Inanna Sisters in Rhythm. This recording starts with cross-stepping on a Surdo pattern for Tar and then the Agogo bells come in with the Tambourine melody.

Gratitude Practice - Native American Flute & Ancient Greek Lyra
I absolutely loved it! I’m going to Roatan Bay Islands next week and now I’m going to bring my high C Bamboo Flute by Ray’s Island Flute! I’ll see if I can get some of the birds to sing back to me! Enjoy your trip!
@@florencewolfe9826 enjoy your trip and don’t forget to record your fluteplaying!
Thank you so much for keeping your promise that when you got to Crete, you would play for us. It was so sweet and I loved it.❗️🙏🥰
@@florencewolfe9826 thank you my dear, my pleasure!

This was really great! Loved your drumming and loved the flute playing. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It was wonderful.🎶

Beautiful! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed our time in the "break-out" room tonight! Thank you for playing the syllables of my name! Your playing is beautiful! Good luck on your purchase of the Woodsounds flute in key of G. I know you will love it, as I do mine in the kwe of F#.
Thank you so much dear Florence! I loved playing for the two of you in the breakout room! I saw you reacting to it on the spot. It was a completely different experience rather than going inward with my eyes closed. Counting the days to hold, play and cherish my Woodsounds Buffalo flute…
❤❤❤❤❤
Terima kasih.
So peaceful, and so full of wonder! Thank you❤
@@florencewolfe7690 thank you for your kind words <3
I have been trying to learn the flute, I'm so glad I found you in my feed. I also like to play the drum and rattles. 😍

Hello it’s Sarah from Lyre academy. I love all you videos and that you learn each instrument
@@Reikidreams911 Hi Sarah, Thank you so much!
💚
So beautiful! (I almost signed up for Christine's class, but I'm taking 2 others right now :)

Marjolene 💞 This is so beautiful - Deeply touched❤
@@trommelbau-kayomatu thank you so much Heike <3
Amazing! Is the arrangement yours? :)
@@TheMissSve thank you! The lyre part and the lyrics are taught to me by Lina Palera. The English translation reminded me of Layne Redmond’s researches. She wrote “When the drummers were women”. That convinced me to add the framedrum accompaniment.
Hi. I loved your mode examples. I was hoping to ask you a question. Did you re-tune your lyre for each respective mode, or just work within the standard recommended tuning from Lutheiros? Every time I try ro play a different mode on my lyre of Orpheus, I keep wanting to resolve with C or sometimes Abecause in a modern music context the notes make up the C Major scale or A Minor scale.
@@JamesSmith-b4r3y hi, thank you! These examples are meant for 7 string lyres with G as the rootnote. Besides my own arrangements you can find them in 203 of the Luthieros Lyre Academy. For some of the modes I had to tune up or down some strings.
Lovely ❤
@@BarbaraGail_drum_song_dance thank you once more <3 I think that I will make a new video and add your slides if that’s ok? They fit so well with these lyrics!
Wonderful - thanks. This codex is so full of wonders

You played that so well and with feeling. I am learning this exact tune from the lyre academy.. Where did you get your written notation from please?
Thank you! You can find the notation in the free download of luthieros and also in the first courses of the lyre academy. Enjoy!
@@marjoleinvanammers9571 Thank you. I have the notation from the lyre academy. I was just wondering if yours was slightly different but clearly it is the same. All good.

That is both beautiful and fascinating. The tonality of the composition is quite familiar, despite its antiquity.
Thank you. Yes, it sounds familiar indeed. This is played in the Ancient Greek mode Hypophrygios, in the Middle Ages misnamed as Mixolydios.
@@marjoleinvanammers9571Mixolydian! Major scale with a flattened seventh. Very interesting. Thanks again!
Lovely. Well done. Thank you.

This doesn't sound anything like Despacito 🙂. You could try that one, everyone else has. It would sound like the video "Luis Fonsi - Despacito (Harpsichord cover)" BBC Radio 1
true that lyre has its own sound
Excellent! You seem to be using your left fingers to mute some strings. I'm trying to build a Greek lyre and haven't decided how many strings. This video will help me guess the spacing of the strings at the distance above the bridge at which the plucking or strumming occurs. Your employment of the telemon is well shown. Thank you.
@@davidnoland4216 thank you. Yes my left hand mutes the strings you don’t want to hear in the chords. I wish you luck and much fulfillment in building your lyre!
That was so pretty. Thank you!

Hi Denise, yes it is. Are you wondering too if it might wear off?
@@marjoleinvanammers9571 If it has been heat transferred it should wear ok. I’m a textile designer in my past career. I’ve always wondered how cooperman create the designs if they use acrylic inks I think that they will rub off eventually. Would be interesting to know how they apply them
@@denisethompson-5679 there might also be differences with this drum built around 1995 and for instance the image on a recently built Marla Tar.. @CoopermanVt can you tell us more?
whoop whoop YOU gave her a new home 🫶 it's the one with the thumb whole upside down, right? so when ever she's played upright - Layne can play with you from the heavens 🎶 (oh, and this is Sonja, your Sista from the FDA, now also drumming the Tambourine Path II with Barbara ✨)
