When to adjust top and bottom mounts to ensure tension accuracy on a Tomcat racquet stringer
I just took my new racquet from stringing and I think the guy has put rpm blast on the mains. Which one is black? The gut or rpm blast? Thanks for the review
The string name should be marked on the strings themselves. You may have to look under a magnifying glass. For the racquet in this video I put Gut mains and RPM Blast crosses. They r both black. Natural gut comes in black too.
Panie Darku, jak naciąga Pan rakiety to sposobem na dwa supły czy na cztery?
I always use 2 piece stringing. 4 knots.
Thankyou very much for this video! Like your way of explaining. Doing a great job
Thank you for the kind words!
Are u using some special digital scale, I saw ProsPro selling them for 40$. Or any generic?
Just a generic one used for fishing. Figured it has 2 decimal place precision it can’t be that bad. Can always get a 2nd 1 just to compare.
Wow, you covered all cases, thanks so much for sharing
You’re very welcome!
Thanks for sharing, do you need some special tight strings to attach scale or any will work?
I’ve used different polys and multies and remember seeing some differences mainly due to the multies takes the tension head longer to pull and repull to achieve a stable tension since it stretches a lot more than polys. I’ve seen others recommend using Kevlar cuz it stretches the least
what is the length of strength for the main vs the cross?
20’ mains and 18’ crosses according to Wilson. www.wilson.com/sites/default/files/Wilson_Blade_v9_104_StringingInstructions.pdf
Thanks for this video! Are there any similar strings to substitute the factory ones?
Most factory strings are synthetic gut so look for any markings on the actual string to confirm. Sometimes the markings on the string are no longer there. U may have to look with a magnifying glass -). You can sub with any reputable branded synthetic guts. Goshen OG Sheep Micro. Prince synguts are what comes to my mind.
@Letsgetstringing thanks lots!!
Thanks for sharing, very nice, bought trick with cork. Buy where is the salmon?-)
@@mario17-t34 Thank you for your kind comment. Those are striped bass that migrate up the NE US along the Atlantic Ocean. Just before winter they migrate back down south heading to warmer waters. Striper fishing is some of the most exciting times for the fall/winter fisherman. They can often be caught top water chasing baits like bunkers and sand eels. If u lookup stripers blitz you can see some exciting action.
Nice!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for such details. Just curious if your clamp on position like @12.49, after pull will you get some mini rotation towards the tension head ? or your base is 100% still? In my case I see minor rotation and I'm able to rotate it with hand force, not sure if this right or no. I mean movement of the baes. Not talking about teeth grip.
There should be no movement at all out of the baseclamp during a pull. If so u need to adjust it via the adjustment screw inside the hole as the video tried to demonstrate. Test it up to 60 to 65lb of pulling force at least for the worst case scenario. Cuz when it’s not adjusted tight enough it might not rotate at 50lb of force but may rotate at 55 or 60 for example. Good luck adjusting it!
@@Letsgetstringing Thanks, just saw your test @21.20. Alas mine are moving with hand a bit. I have basic Eagnas, with just simple 2 nuts on the back, no any plates. I'm going to upgrade
@@mario17-t34My previous lockout stringer was a Eagnas Flex 940 but it’s been so long I lost the user manual. Those adjust from below and over time 1 of mine loosened up and I came to find that 1 has 2 bolts and the other had only 1 bolt. I bought it used so can’t complain.
@@malagabee Thanks Malagabee, I also got mine from somebody's closet, so taking it as a project-). You probably meant 1 and 2 nuts (not bolts).
Pro's Pro rocks
Hell ya😍
thanks man 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You are very welcome!
How do you make your clamps to stay up to string height? Mine keep going down to the lowest position. Thanks
Ya it won’t stay up unless you lift it all the way and lock it. It’s usually not a problem clamping the main strings but could be an issue once in a while clamping the crosses specially if my hands r tired.
Did you try the lead tapes at different locations in the racket head?
Looking back at my notes I tweaked it some more since this video with different strings and with or without overgrips. When I strung it with Hyper G 18 gauge it gave me a pretty hollow feeling from the thin 1.15mm string with a few units of SW lower due to the lighter string material. Feeling is hollow and lacking in power since it Went from 332ish to 326ish SW. To compensate for this I then added 1.8g of lead tape at 12 o’clock position and removed the lead at 3&9. This got it back to 332ish SW and everything felt normal like what I’m used to. I’ve since sold the racquet. Felt the over riding factor in this racquet is not so much in its TW for me. The overall static weight is a bit heavier for me. Also the shot trajectory can be too loopy compared to other racquets. So I’ve since sold them and moved on. That said the 2024 Speed maybe better…
@ thanks for the insight. I like SW around 335g so I added 6g of tungsten at the butt cap and 4g of tapes at 6 o’clock. Ended up with about 6pt HL and SW of 327 right now, I might try moving some tape up towards 3/9 more to see how it feels
Why did you clamp the first main string on the right side so far from the frame? (4:15) BTW you have really improved your techniques. Keep learning my friend!
I have explained it in previous videos. In short it’s match the opposite main’s tension so they pluck the same pitch. Think about where the anchor clamp is before the string is pulled.
@@Letsgetstringing It's clearly seen that author knows what he is doing, thanks for sharing those tricks.

Do you have any tips on how to put dampner on rf01, my tension is at 52, and I cant put the dampner in 😂
Dampeners come in different forms and sizes I’m not sure which one u r using. Did u try to move the main strings out of the way to fit?
On the crosses why do you weave the next string before you pull? thanks
Weaving 1 ahead is easier on the fingers as it’s a soft weave since u r weaving before the previously weaved string is tensioned off and clamped off. It gives u more vertical room between adjacent strings to weave specially near the crosses that r done. If u don’t weave 1 ahead you’d be doing hard weaves and spend much more effort with less vertical room to weave. Maybe not big deal with thin strings on an open pattern but definitely harder to do on a dense pattern stringbed using stiff of thick strings.
@@Letsgetstringing thanks for the explanation

In the UK, it's OK to film in a public space.
As proven by Mr K😂
I’ve got 3 of these scalpels ! 🔪✔️
Sorry what?!?
Why did you clamp that second main so far from the grommet at 3:18? Thanks
On this machine and this starting method if I clamp that string all the way against the grommet like the other strings I end up getting a few lbs higher tension on that string 1L bs 1R as a result because the distance being pulled is shorter by 1.5 to 2”. I verified this by plucking every string after the mains r done and their sound pitch matches left and right. I did that at 11:30 with this string job too. There was once a Yonex stringer who adds a few lbs to his 1R in order for 1L and 1R to match each other. Physics wise this is because when I pulled 1R or any other strings the anchor clamp is always at the previous string in this case at the throat end of 1L. Now when u go back to tension 1L technically the anchor clamp should be at the throat end of 1R but due to this starting method it’s not and we r pulling from where 1L comes out of the anchor clamp at 1L to the tension head. This is a shorter distance vs if the anchor clamp were to be placed at 1R ideally therefore resulting with a higher tension on 1L. I compensate for this by clamping off 1L 1.5 to 2 inches away from the edge of the frame. If u think about it it’s about the same distance from where 1 L would ideally be clamped off as I mensioned to where it actually came out of the anchor clamp. I was just giving that slack back after pulling 1L. It’s hard to explain but everyone does it differently. Majority of stringers wouldn’t have cared what I mentioned and they string the way they were taught but there r ways to achieve not only accurate tension on each pull but also have the left match the right. Now the Babolat machines with a round track would improve this starting method somehow I assume.
may I ask sir if what is the DT of roger's string setup or tension equivalent to full bed of poly. Naturally a full bed of polly is stiffer but correct me if im wrong, nat gut on main and poly cross maybe soften the bed of the setup... I want to try it on my ps classic that i bought for 1,500 pesos about 30$ (I dont have that money to buy dream PSRFA :/ racket )so that maybe I can experience my idol's racket... so yeah, tysm! <3 <3
Try 55 poly main 16 gauge, 57-58 synthetic gut cross 15L gauge. The type of brand and material of the strings matters for feel. Even if you got the tension right, the feel of the strings that goes with the racket frame material will feel differently. This is as close to Natural Gut in terms of (power). The cheap setup but is top quality stuff.
Roger strings his Wilson gut 16 around 27.3lb and LNX Alu rough at 24lb. They r prestretched as well so the same setup in your racquet may not feel exactly the same in other racquets but it’s good to try. For a full bed of poly I always suggest 48 to 52 as a starting point. But u can also do 54 like Roger does on his poly cross. As someone mentioned all strings feel different.

What strings do u have?

hello! In your opinion, is this string, Velocity, the best for this racket? 1.25? I struggle to push and find winners...
Velocity 1.25 is definitely more durable multi than some more expensive multies like NRG. Imo hitting winners require either a lot of power, racquet head speed and shot speed or high accuracy to hit deep corners. And short and wide shots that bounce over the sidelines. Or be able to have high enough shot tolerance to create space, open up the court to hit an easy put away. I don’t know your level but in my experience what separates a 3.5 and 4.0 is the ability to put away mid court put aways when opponent gives u the opportunity. Have to get there fast enough to hit it above the height of the net. Just a few things off top of my head. If u find a string u can control and create good spin with then go with it. May need to lower tension to get more bounce from it so shots can land deeper without losing control. Higher tension may give u more control but u have to generate more racquet head speed in order to hit a more powerful shot.
Hi, nice stringing! Are you using the same clamps that come with the machine are different ones (bought new ones)? Greetings
Yes I am! They r not the fastest. I’d love to have those ones Xpider makes for the Tourna machines though.

Hi, can you tell what oil is it?
Hi it was some machine oil that came with an electric clipper. I’ve also experimented with cooking oil too believe it or not. Just don’t smear it all over the place cuz too much won’t help the string grab the ball even though the string to string friction is reduced.
Why mine doesn't have the dampener? Did it came with the racquet?
Hi yes it does look like it’s factory original as I googled up images of the racquet with placard when it’s new. Did u buy yours brand new ?
@@Letsgetstringing Yes, I bought it new. I cheked my racquet, looks like I don't have the LiquidMetal 4 but the LiquidMetal Heat. Not sure what the differences are between the two but they are the same colour and graphics. EDIT: Mine is also 102 sq. inch, but 9.9 oz with 18x19 string pattern.

Stringing racket takes so long and it’s so much work . I’m surprised how cheap it is to get it done
I agree. The labor rate is definitely not keeping up with the inflation of everything else. It’s a good thing for players who string a lot though. And quite a few players 4.0 level or higher around here actually string for themselves so it’s even cheaper so they don’t need to pay stringers. These people make a lot of money it’s not like they can’t afford it. Even for clubs I think they make a lot more money with coaching programs and court times compared to stringing.
How much string does it take in the cross & mains? 20ft?

@@malagabee Thanks man!
Hello, thank you for the video. I am deciding between this and Tennisman Stringmaster Pro 50 LE Elektronik Wise 2086 for my home/hobby stringing. How would you compare these two tension heads?
The wise unit is a low cost and reliable tension head used by many stringers from what I can see although I’ve not personally used or own it. The Tomcat’s MT400 is pretty reliable too. I’m approaching 200K pulls without any issue other than a bad power supply transformer which my vendor quickly sent me a replacement. That said I would definitely pay the difference in price for the Tomcat’s auto centering 6 pt mounts. Will save lots of time mounting a racquet each time not having individual knobs to adjust for all 6 supports. It has 4 knobs of which the 2 for the 6 and 12 o’clock supports r linked together so in effect u only have 3 adjustments to make rather than 6 adjustments. The left and right support adjustments are auto centering too. 1 knob auto centers on the head end and the other to centers the throat end of racquet.
@@Letsgetstringing thank you. That auto centering feature sounds very nice. How about base clamps quality? I have heard some people complain about it on forums and youtube. That is it grinding when moving and so on. What is your experience regarding this? Do you think Stringmaster is better in this regards? Thanks again.
@@rokkercmar8600I’ve not had the grinding issues mentioned. If there is you’d see it in my stringing videos. It’s not the fastest clamps compared to more expensive ones but it isn’t bad. I’ve seen Babolat clamps with much more drawbacks. I’ve seen a Stringmaster Delux model on Tennisman with a newer auto release clamp like ones used on more expensive Tournas. I wouldn’t mind trading it for that one. But everything seems to be out of stock on there now.
