Strengths-based family therapy session 1 part 1
This was so good. It didn’t allow pointing fingers and it didn’t allow victimizing but it allowed everyone to take accountability and become aware of who’s they all contribute to the family function. Peacefully ! And added hope!
❤I love it
Is this a Bowenian structured approach? It sounds like its heavily influenced.
No. It's an integration of family systems theory, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, with a small dose of structural family therapy.
i appreciate for this video! thank you
I really love this this as some of our child behavior changes are due to parent behavior change also! Watching from Tanzania -East Africa
Lol, some of us believe that all child cognition, behaviour, and affect are due to the family system.
I love this video
What are they doing instead, amazing question
25:16
It is solution focused approach, scaling and miracle question
This is excellent!
NICE
This is narrative family therapy
I like how he smoothly moves them away from focusing just on Joe and encourages them to reflect on themselves as well.
Lol, that my friend is the magic of ecosystems social work. While it is not as expansive in scope as a structural approach that seeks macro level change, it does at least look at one's direct environment and attempt to create alternative narratives within the group, as opposed to merely pathologizing a single individual.
thank you, now this is useful and educational. i wish more psychotherapy educational videos were more like this format.
Thank you for your feedback!
This is really great...but why provide little blurbs to read for the video if they're going to be on the screen for .5 seconds at a time???? Drove me nuts.
Good video on the strengths-based family the family really knows each other and knows where to pull their strengths from. I also like how the therapist is neutral and does not show sides and helps all family members. The miracle question is so important to ask in this session because they can imagine the perfect scenario and how things can be changed positively. I also like how they proposed their own solutions to the problems they have going on.
Thanks! You make excellent observations!
I love how asking "the miracle question" helped the family realize their own roles toward the feelings of hopelessness that had taken over their family. Understanding how they contribute to this problem helped them identify changes they can make in their daily routine that will help the family function better.
Thanks! You make excellent observations!
Lovely video! Very informative I love it
first family session today- thank you 🖤
WHO IS THIS THERAPIST??? does he still practice?? i'd really love to hire him for my family, even virtually via zoom or something
He like the others in the video is a professional actor.
I just found this film. I teach interviewing/ assessment for counselors and have started to use in class very successfully. Created a series of questions for students to think about while they observe, then small group discussion, and then whole class discussion. A success, very much appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, Mari. I am so very glad that you are finding the video helpful in your teaching. Sounds like you are being a success in creatively using in class. - Gil Greene
This is an excellent series which I've been using in social work education. I see in the credits that the therapist is Eric McKeever. I'm guessing he IS a therapist - or is he also an actor?
He is a professional actor as are all the others in the video.
This will help with a school assignment. Thanks!

its really good tools and not every family have similar strengths, it would be good to get some other videos as well...anyway i enjoyed both part 1 and 2...actually i having an assignment which was due yesterday, Family strength framework and just bumped in this..and really liked it...thanks again
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you found this video to be enjoyable and helpful. If you've been able to use some of the interventions presented in the video I am interested to know if you found them helpful in practice.
I would like to have some background information about this video. Is Glen an actor or authentic? Thanks for putting such a good quality video on youtube.
Thanks for your comment and question, Ben. Glen is a professional counselor. This was a roleplay which was unrehearsed. I had no idea who Glen would be roleplaying and what the roleplay scenario was going to be. I wanted it to be as real-life as possible where as a therapist one does not know the client or the presenting problem initially. At the time we made this around 1996 or 1997 there were no existing videos on using solution-focused therapy for crisis intervention.
Thank you for the video, the session is great
I am very glad you like it! Thanks for taking the time to us your feedback.
